Rating: Summary: Is there more? Review:
I really enjoyed reading about Carlos's learning experiences. Even if he is a bit of a whiner it is still well written. I liked the part he has in there about the cords. I saw an illustration in Energetic Anatomy by Mark Rich and it looks pretty similar to what Don Juan was talking about. Mark talks about some dormant cords which Castaneda never discusses. Sort of makes you wonder what else is out there.
Rating: Summary: THIS BOOK IS AWSOME Review: A separate reality was a great book. Carlos is the greatest Author of all time and I know that isn't what he set out to be but that is what happend. I'm 15 years old and I stumbeld on to Carlos's writing on acident I dont even like reading but when i first started reading The Teachings of Don Juan I couldnt pout it down I try to get as much as i posibly can get out of reading his books just like Carlos I try to learn from Don Juan to. As many of you know Carlos Castaneda past away some time ago so he will never be able to read these reviews. If he was still around there is one question i would like would like to ask him "are these stories fact or fiction?" if anyone out there can help me with this question please E-mail me.
Rating: Summary: Carlos begins to see Review: Castaneda's books are pure poetry. As with any experience not our own, I would encourage the reader to enter and explore the tale as one would slip slowly into a deep pool. Wonder at the possibilities that it contains, even if you are, like me, confined to the limits of "ordinary reality."No book on true spirituality is a how-to manual. Only by slipping into the cool silence of Castaneda's story can one hope to touch the wisdom which flows through it. For those out there looking for confirmation, this book is worth reading. For those bent on analyzing and questioning, learn to accept your own perpetual state of disbelief.
Rating: Summary: Another way to our world Review: Don Juan shows a different way to see our " ordinary" world. It's complex, and mysterial. But he says " Reality didn't exist in the way of seeing things. It's between the two ways of "ordinary" and "wizard" world.
Maybe he's right. But we have to see them ourself
Rating: Summary: Further Con Review: From an Artist of Deception who is NO scientist. I just don't buy the arguments of those who admit Castaneda is a fraud, but his books are really, really interesting. Look, this book didn't make it to the FICTION best seller list, but to the NON-FICTION list. The guy tried to claim that the events depicted were literal actual happenings. In thinking, BE MATURE! How can you claim that the inventions of a liar are valuable spiritual wisdom? Why do you want to believe that? Why would you not instead prefer to find out the truth about REAL spiritual traditions that offer AUTHENTIC wisdom teachings, instead? If you buy into Castanedas fraud even to ONE iota--they you are letting yourself become a victim. Don't be a victim. Fight for your right to know the truth! Fight for your right to not be deceived! Fight for your right to know reality without the false embellishments. Don't give your money to these liars and cheats...
Rating: Summary: From me Review: I am quite familiar with the way of Castaneda, and I find pretty funn that the readers in this page doesnt seem to understand a thing about castaneda. Thats good because his books keep the basic secret - i am glad to know that-. Castaneda Describes what is real, he is more than poetry, he is knowledge, and the way of the warrior, a way that seems to be impossible to be reached by other means. Castaneda doesnt introduce a religion, nor new kind of spirituality, he is not spiritual, he talks about reality, and that makes it so confusing for many readers, so self involved in their relative worlds of ignorance`
Rating: Summary: I await audiotapes by Peter Coyote on Castaneda writings. Review: I await the next audiotapes by Peter Coyote on the Castaneda writings. I found his style of speaking perfect for how I image the conversations of Don Juan and Carlos. I rated the tape a number 8 because of the abrupt ending of the tape. I had to replay it twice to be sure that the tape wasn't damage. Also, It would be nice if the whole book was narrated, instead of the abridged portion of it.
Rating: Summary: Better than the first Review: I LOVED this book. Yes, there are some good philosophies "revealed" in the pages, but the fun especially comes from guessing what is real, what is plausible, and what is possible. It is more plausible than the Bible...which is quite funny. Read "Teachings of don Juan" first, than "A Separate Reality", though the latter is more interesting. Read them both, they are light reading, have a few good (but common) philosophies, and are a trip logically to decode.
Rating: Summary: The importance of a way with heart Review: I read this book a month ago never having read Castaneda in my 44 years. I have practiced aikido for fifteen years and zazen for four and find that this is a precious introduction to the spiritual way. The way of the spirit inseparable from the body. Whether or not the events are fiction is of the utmost unimportance. Don Juan's words are profound and true to us and to our daily lives. Castaneda's denseness is a delight and it is only his inborn talent and perseverance that enable him to overcome his academic reserve.
Rating: Summary: Oh c'mon Mr. Casteneda! Review: I read this book when I was in high school because I had an older brother who thought that Carlos Casteneda was "the man". So with fear and anticipation I read through this book, hoping that it wasn't too far over my head. For awhile it seemed ok, but then it goes off the deep-end. He talks about how we all have these invisible tentacles coming out of our belly-buttons and we can use them for rock climbing and for stopping charging mountain lions. The author must know that if he said this right off the bat people would laught at it. But if you're halfway through the book he figures that if you've read that far that you'll buy anything he says. When I came to these passages I was shocked, I thought I wouldn't be smart enough for the book, I didn't expect it to be just plain silly. Does anyone wonder if "Jack in the Beanstalk" is true? Anyway, I read through the whole thing, mostly because I was wondering if he would explain that he was just kidding about the belly tentacles thing. But that never happened. To make matters worse my mother noticed how I'd read the whole book, assumed I must have liked it, and got me another one for my birthday! So then I had two of these books on my bookshelf, it was so embarassing because to visitors it would look like I BELIEVED these silly ramblings. If you're the kind of person who likes these things, fine. But if you're curious about buying one of these "narratives" I hope to save you some money, time, and embarrassment.
