Summary: An excellent book for student pilots.
Review: Rod's book is great! A very thick book which provides good coverage of all the basics, yet injected with a sense of humor not unlike my own, which definitely helps you through the mass of material. It's easy to read over time, in one chapter increments, as your flight training progresses.

Review: I am working on my CFI ticket and this is an excellent book to help with putting the essentials of aviation technology in an easy format to understand and use for the new student. His humor greatly aids retention!! It deserves more than 5 stars!!

Review: I guess Mr. Machado realized there are a few of us dummies out here who find it difficult to understand technical manuals that he wrote this excellent book with us in mind. Review: I had been out of aviation for a couple of years and bought this book. It not only reviewed me but taught me things I had never known. Excellent. This book is what you need to stay alive in the sky.

Summary: Frozen Duck Control Freak Godsend
Review: I'm not happy just knowing what an instrument does. Nor am I satisfied if I can just pass "The Test". I'm a control freak. I have needs. This book is essential if this sounds familiar. You won't be left with Whys and Howsats. It's also a great confidence builder for a beginner without the smiling, happy "you can do it, it's easy! :)" that seems pretty common in other private pilot material that I've taken in. Some people aren't into the side-stories and ASRS Reports, etc in the book. For me even the doodles on the diagrams help to retain knowledge, as I'm sure Mr. Machado intended. As a new pilot I am absolutely committed to developing the best possible skills, and this book is doing me right where others have lacked. Pick this up with the King's study guides and radio communications guide, then save the rest of your checking account for your friendly neighborhood CFI. Also - read the weather chapter outdoors if you can. Helped me out greatly.

Summary: Masterful - A Must Have!
Review: I have to agree with the positive comments about Machado's book. The first thing I thought while reading it was "Dummies"-style. I love "Dummies" books. They clearly explain the concepts and identify the nice-to-knows and the must-knows. Machado's book does very much the same thing and it's sheer size ensures virtually everything is adequately covered.
As for the corniness some may have reported, well humor is certainly subjective particularly when used as edutainment. If his objective was to write a comedy manuscript I might be critical. Since the objective is aviation instruction, I think it's masterful - nothing less. It's a must have!

Summary: Not God's words but real inspration from him...
Review: When tired of the same technical cold-blood language of the FAA and ICAO publications, and have flight training lessons from a cool author... BUY this BOOK! If you are stupid or unexperienced (as long as you attend to taking flight lessons... you are) you'll understand many uncovered items in flight training, both tecnically and socialy... If you are soooo experienced and vise like me (PPL owner, total time 117 hours and flying since 1991, what a megalomaniac...) you'll laught and find many pieces of you left on aerodrome tarmac, yet you'll visit the parts of this holly guy left on tarmac a longer time on airports... Do not hasistate to buy!
