Summary: Rule by Secrecy
Review: A must read for the experienced or beginner conspiracy researcher or buff. Marrs puts "it" all together in an easy to read format. Read it cover to cover or pick a topic and skip around! Laden with names and dates that are verifyable from mainstream sources, I dare you to read this one!

Summary: Excellent Book on Hidden History of History!
Review: Must-read book. With themes that are similar to David Icke's, author Jim Marrs exposes the secret societies, its members, connections, and their role in major events of world history, and how it leads back to the Ancient Mysteries of ancient Egypt, Sumer, the Knights Templars, and Freemasonry. The author effectively uses references from numerous authors and researchers to support his own research and argument and vice versa.

Summary: Views from a Native American reader....
Review: Having been raised in a culture that places so much worth and value on the "material" world and at the same time being rooted in my native spiritual and cultural "ways", I found this book extremely well written. I am not "new" (naive)to the "New World Order", and "end of time" prophesies/conspiracies. Seeing what the "western world" has come to at this time in history I can hope that the "cleansing" is that much nearer. We know that hunger, violence, rape, destruction, wars, murder, racial hatred, etc. have been with us since the dawn of time. That can easily be looked up in the history books. What happened so long ago that caused "humans" to seek the negative path? The "Star People" have been part of Native American oral traditions for a long time, so these stories were ignored for the most part. It takes a book like Mr. Marrs to open up the "linear" world to "what could have been" our true history. There is so much that we do not know (has been kept from us) that it boggles the mind. But then again the "truth" is different for each and every one of us, based on our personal experiences. If one is allowed to feel the "light" and the "dark" then one is balanced. "Rule by Secrecy" does not try to convert you nor dictate to you that what is written is the truth. Instead it highlights historical patterns, familiar "names" and back ground information most often ignored when studying "HIS-STORY". It is really up to the reader to make their own decision.

Summary: Conspiracies and realist priorities
Review: I have read Jim Marrs' book. It is a good book, dealing with a perfectly plausible subject. But his is the typical conspiracy theory of well-fed, easy going, ill-informed and gullible Western (rather New World) populations, who have been made insular by their prosperity. I would like to point out a more down-to-Earth yet equally serious conspiracy for which solid proof is easily accessible all around, yet to the discerning eye. The short resume of this situation is: the installation by Western elites of client parasite ruling elites in the "Third" world, and the use of them to take unfair advantage of prevalent indigenous conditions to keep the channel of exploitation open. Of course, this state of affairs may be too boring for the kind of gushing cospiracy theorists in question, for it is too heavy and "everyday" to serve their glamorous needs. But it is precisely these escapist attitudes which are going to dangerously destabilise the future of the world, if people don't wake up and become wise. If Western populations, among whom the "leading" ones are the North Americans, don't care to bother about the hard facts on the ground by continuing to make soap operas, baseball leagues, stock markets and rock concerts the main focus of their activity, then they not only deserve, but NEED to have the kind of elitism and control measures that Jim Marrs and others like him allege.

Summary: GREAT GOD ALL MIGHTY, THE TRUTH AT LAST
Review: Anyone who tells you anything negative about this book....just run and hide....and run a long way before you hide. For they are not true Americans. Jim Marrs finally puts all the pieces together for every man, woman and child to read.....the reality of the control of our lives. Remember now, Mr. Marrs comes with massive amounts of Military Intelligence-investigative journalist hours tacked on his back that few persons have ever endured. Every American citizen should study every single paragraph of this book and understand it no matter how long it takes. My wife thinks it should replace the Bible. I'm not quite that drastic. RULE BY SECRECY should be required reading. Place your Bible on top of it. Thank you Jim Marrs. I knew you would do it.

Summary: Oh, here we go again!
Review: Thirty years ago - 30 years ago! - I would see pamphlets about this type of stuff, only it didn't have the luxery of three decades of evolution and growing sophistication. Quotes taken out of context, questionable sources, and most damaging of all, actual facts bootstrapped to prop up the preconceived notions of conspiracies and one world governments and secret cabals. No matter what HUGE event in civilization you point their nose at, Mr. Marrs and his ilk will tell you it's something else.

The nadir of all of this is Mr. Marrs's mention - note, it's not an indictment, but for all intents and purposes it is - of some sort of John Hinkley/George Bush conspiracy to assasinate Ronald Reagan.

Oh, for crying out loud!

Summary: Well-written Historic Journalism
Review: Everyone keeps secrets;individually, or with others. It's part of everyday life. This very well-written book, shows that time not only hides facts, but reveals them, as well. I cannot compare it with any other book,of its kind, without disfavouring the others. Nations, languages, cultures, even peoples, have vanished throughout time; revealing an odd thread of continuity.

Summary: The sort of person who takes "Illuminatus!" seriously...
Review: ...will probably take this book seriously. I certainly wouldn't dispute the proposition that secret societies, cabals, and conspiracies of all sorts have existed throughout history, and that there exists in the USA (as there does in _all_ nations) an "elite" consisting of all those at the top of their various professions and social groupings, and furthermore that the direction of any society is carried on as much by unofficial, behind-the-scenes interaction as by official procedures. Such things are a matter of historical record and common sense. Where Marrs goes wrong is swallowing the old John Birch Society line hook, line and sinker. It's a perilously small step from believing in world-spanning conspiracies of the rich and well-placed to believing in world-spanning conspiracies of the _Jewish_ rich and well-placed - and we all know what THAT can lead to.

Fundamentally, the biggest error in Marrs' premise is to suppose that people who _already_ run the world, or large portions thereof, are conspiring to take over the world, and have done so since the depths of antiquity. Furthermore, he tops off his speculations with a completely bizarre disquisition on aliens which might have come from "The X-Files". Paging Mulder and Scully...

Summary: Concise, Linear, and truly scary!
Review: Jim Marrs has done a wonderful job of researching the major secret societies and cabals from present day back into antiquity. I get very skeptical when reading the sections concerning the influence of Aliens on humankind. This aside, this book is very readable, and a lot of fun! Great Bibliography too!

Summary: There's one born every second
Review: The easiest sell in the world is a boogie-man story. There is no more hidden history here than there is a moon made of cheese. You can find the same history told without the boogie-man angle in most libraries throughout the country. Again, don't waste your money.
