Rating: Summary: New Religion Review: This book is the promotion of Ms.Browne's new religion. I am not sure how she named it but is clearly that she established it and is preaching it in so called "My church" . In the book you will find Orthodox, Catholic, Buddhist and many other religious thoughts all gathered at one place, to create what we need now: "New Religion". This is a perfect book for this time and place. In the time when we don't have time for family, friends , when we are day in and day out stressed out, we need someone to tell us "You have chosen your blueprint, before you even come on this world", therefore we should not be worried about anything how we act and live our lives . It does feel good when we are alone, to think we have our "Gardian Angel" he\she will watch us. ( I personally belive in Gardian Angels - saved my life few times) It is also nice to think "We are just visiting and stooping by on this Earth, after this we "All go to haven" and there we are faced with "Eternity". How nice, makes me think, yea, who cares, what I have done today to someone else, he will forgive me when we meet up in haven. It look to Ms.Browne that morally it is totally OK to commit murder and many other unmoral standards that we are brought up or learned through life. (Interesting approach that she takes on this subject) My advice to readers : It is a good book to read (to cherish someone's ability to manipulate a large audience) . I did pick up few lines that made me feel better about "thinking" that someone else shares the same thoughts that I have. Which would be just 10% of the whole book. Readers: If you have any academic knowledge or have been studying Religion and History you will understand what I am talking about, but people that don't have it , than I just pray for you so you don't get pulled in one of numbers of new religions, cults .. that are created each day and want just your money... At the end, maybe my critic is wrong, but it sure did motivate me to buy books about "Philosophy of Religion"... and many other books on the topics that Ms. Browne did talk about in her book. Reading this Book and blindly following it's concept would be a disaster to your sole and all around you. Religion is such a big subject that it would be impossible to comment this book just in these few words of mine. It would take many , many years to give a valid critic not only from me but from any readers too.
Rating: Summary: The Other Side and Back: A Psychic's Guide to Our World Review: I had originally bought this book for my mother as a gift. When I got it home and started glancing through it, I knew I'd have to buy her another copy.I could not put this book down! There were so many things in this book that made SO much more sense to me than all I had been taught before. It has such a "ring of truth" to it, that I had to read more. I ran out and bought "Adventures of a Psychic" (which had been out awhile), but I found that alot of what was in it was in "The Other Side". This book has been the start of a turning point in my life. Thank you Sylvia for writing it!
Rating: Summary: A Staple Review: I read this book two weeks after my gradmtoher passed over and it has been the most comforting thing I have found since her death. It has also lessened my personal fear of dying. The book explains that we are never truely alone and that life does have a purpose ....although we might not be completely aware of it. If you are a believer or a skeptic read this book. Only one warning: although this book does answer many questions...answering those questions opens up new ones...but isn't that what life is about ...learning. You won't be sorry!
Rating: Summary: Understanding Life Better Review: what a wonderful book! I have always been a spiritual person but confused about all the different views of the bible. This book was especially helpful in understanding the other side and understanding our purpose on earth. It makes dealing with problems and pain easier to understand and the purpose.
Rating: Summary: The Other Side and Back: A Psychic's Guide to Our World and Review: Once I opened this book and began to read, I was touched. I am not a typical "book reader", and in the past only read what I had to or what was required course work. Reading Sylvia's book, opened my eyes and heart to things that I have known, somehow, for a very long time. I read this book after seeing her on several talk shows and stood in awe of her God given abilities. I opened her book and read it, at first, with some skepticism but as I read on, I knew what she was saying was true. I tried the exercises in her book and found some amazing and rewarding answers. I have now bought the remaining books and tapes that she has written and anxiously await their arrival.
Rating: Summary: A Positive Read whether you believe it all or not Review: Like many others who have bought this book my interest was initiated by seeing Sylvia on the Montel Williams show. I find her writing persona, just like her TV one, to be very genuine. Whether you believe all she has to say or not I think this book is extremely thought provoking about the after life. I personally believe none of us truly know what lies ahead. We need to search for our own meaning and focus in life. Sylvia's version is a very optimistic one. What she has to say in her book has left me very positive as I approach each new day and has renewed my interest in putting more effort into re-establishing my spirtuality. I'm a non-practicing Catholic and Sylvia's philosophy gave me much to think about in terms of why I left the church and how I'd like to have God back in my life.
Rating: Summary: Nothing more than New Age pseudo-spiritual babble. Review: Immediately after reading Sylvia Browne's book I had an overwhelming feeling of gratefulness come over me; a gratefulness not engendered by the content of the book, however, but from the fact that it wasn't MY $16.77 that had been squandered on such rubbish. My friend, who's copy I borrowed, wasted her money, sure, but at least Ms. Browne hasn't raked in another $16.77 to add further to her pile of ill-gotten gains. Maybe I'm just being ungrateful? After all, Sylvia has selflessly chosen to grace this world one more time (this being her 54th and last incarnation), so that she can share her knowledge and wisdom with us all. How very superior she must feel - yet how very opposite the impression one receives from her writings! The Other Side, according to Sylvia, (I have purposely copied her annoying habit of putting this is capital letters) is a place of androgynous Angels, winged Archangels, Aramaic speaking inhabitants, and blueprints written in graceful gilt script. How prosaic, how decorative, how wrong! Even the slightest acquaintance with the books of Anthony Borgia (e.g. 'Life in the World Unseen', 'Here and Hereafter') will at once show Sylvia's books to be nothing more than New Age pseudo-spiritual babble. Reincarnation is, of course, a central theme to Sylvia's book - it would have been very remiss of her not to give the general public exactly what they wish to hear, after all! And as for the spirit world inhabiting a dimension which is exactly three feet off the ground...! Need I go on?
Rating: Summary: Mostly enlightening but some things hard to swallow Review: I hoped to read this book and have her finally explain to me all the things I didn't understand about the world. In some cases, like regarding death, she did explain things that no religion has ever explained to my satisfaction. But other explanations, like blueprints, are very hard to accept. I can't believe that everyone specifically chooses who is in their family and what challenges will be in their life. How can I believe an intelligent spirit chose to be born as a crack baby and die 5 minutes later, or believe that spirits choose to be born in abusive families? Maybe I expected too much from a book. But I plan to read her next book and hope that I can understand better.I am certain she was blessed by God and is truly a gifted psychic. But I tend to think some of her ideas about life are well-intentioned but possibly misinterpreted.
Rating: Summary: Be open and this book could help you (or not) Review: This book was difficult to put down because the subject matter is very intriguing. I can understand why some view this book as trash while others feel it has changed their life. For the scientific among us, this book is hard to swallow. For those religious fundamentalists, this book could seem blasphemous at times. My advice is to be open to what you read. But read all of it. Agree and disagree with whatever you want. Try the exercises. I have and the results have been amazing. Not all of the exercises, but I have been pleasantly suprised with the results of some. I may not believe or agree with everything stated but by at least trying some of the exercises things happenned, an awareness of perspective I didn't have before opened up to me. But if your closed minded, nothing in this book will seem relevant. Try to be open. If your not, don't waste your money.
