Rating: Summary: CHANGE OF MIND AND HEART.... Review: I purchased this book at a local bookstore. I have not been a big fan of Sylvia Browne's but was drawn to her book in the store. I finished this book in no time. I learned alot about things that have been on my own mind or have experienced myself. This book changed my mind about her work. It's easy reading too; it makes sense and she explains things so clearly. I'd recommend this one!!!
Rating: Summary: The Other Side and Back: Psychic's Guide to World & Beyond Review: Sylvia Browne gives an excellent account of our lives both here, and what it's like on the 'other side' when we die. Book has a warmth and down to earth sensitivity that makes such uncanny sense of our questions and curiosity that it changed, yet reaffirmed a lot of my thoughts and feelings about myself as well as other people, and it warmed my soul. My faith in God is very strong and I'm not easily swayed by a bunch of words. But Ms.Browne, who also is a firm believer, shed a new light on life for me. Read this book and see what it does for you!
Rating: Summary: Influenced the way I think about Life, dying, relationships Review: I found this little paperback book purely by coincidence (although now I believe there are no coincidences). In any event, I was at a tremendous crossroads in my life when I first picked up the book, thinking it would be an amusing read of new age hocus pocus. Not so. It helped me to cope with an extremely difficult break-up and the resulting effects on my job, friendships, family and self-esteem. It also helped me to cope with my father's death. I had begun an earlier quest for spiritual enlightenment, and this book helped to give me some focus. While the spiritual journey continues to be a struggle to attain balance, every time I am feeling off center, I re-read THE OTHER SIDE AND BACK, to help me focus. You do not have to believe or accept everything that Sylvia says, but you have to respect her no-nonsense gutsy approach in expounding her ideas. If nothing else, the book will get you thinking about your life as it relates to others around, the universe and God. Read it and you just might begin on a path of self-examination. I did.
Rating: Summary: Lacks Research, Truth Review: "The Other Side and Back: A Psychic's Guide to Our World and Beyond" will entertain those who appreciate Shirley McLaine's writings, and those who are intrigued that contact can be made with the afterlife. Those, however, who are seriously curious about the facts of the next world would learn more if they move on to other books.Browne asks good, hard questions demanding a verdict about what happens after death, but leaves the reader with no more certainty than her personal beliefs. She seems narrow minded about what is truth. At least the TV psychics use a fine-print disclaimer about it being for entertainment only. I didn't notice any disclaimer warning readers of the same thing. The rest of us will just chuckle that there is a market for this book. Disregarding secular philosophy, and contradicting even the most liberal thinking Christian theology, "The Other Side and Back: A Psychic's Guide to Our World and Beyond" finds its basis only in Sylvia Browne's conjecture and hypotheses. I do not recommend "The Other Side and Back: A Psychic's Guide to Our World and Beyond." Anthony Trendl
Rating: Summary: A Life Changer Review: This book changed my life!! My Mother gave me a copy and I HAD to buy one of my own. The first book (not school book) that I've ever HIGHLIGHTED and made notes from. I practice Sylvia's techniques and have had MUCH success and have gained SO MUCH out of her writings. If you don't have an open mind, don't waste your time. BUT if you are looking to grow as a human, this is a MUST BUY!!!! Keep it coming Syliva!!!!
Rating: Summary: Interesting View Review: First of all, I think the reviewer from Pasadena, CA (Nov 6,2001), makes for a far poorer critic than Sylvia Browne makes for a poor writer. Basically, Sylvia's book is very well written and organized. About the only criticism I have is that her research is really not research at all, but is more like a personal opinion formulated from a collection of anecdotal contributions. I think she would have gained more credibility by just dropping the research part altogether, and basing her findings purely from her own spiritual awareness or exploration. Spiritualist authors, such as Browne, lose credibility by quoting a series of questionable single case studies, and they deteriorate even further when one of the single cases is a spirit guide. Sounds a little too much like the "little birdie told me so." Clearly, her research would be extremely difficult if not impossible for others to replicate (my spirit guide told me a completely different story about the afterlife). On a more positive note, many individuals will be comforted by her account of the afterlife, and to learn that their dear departed loved ones are alive and well. I don't think it hurts anyone, and if some poor grieving souls can benefit, then more power to Sylvia Browne. However, some fundamentalist Christians will have a problem with her view of Hell and Lucifer whom Sylvia claims is just an overseer of the bad place, and is really not that bad of a guy. Some Christians place a lot of stock in their hell (and the devil), and they won't like anyone detracting from it - least of all a psychic whom they likely believe is walking on the boundaries of Christianity in the first place. I gave Sylvia's book 4 stars because I found it immensely entertaining and easy to read. Aside from the lack of empirical data, her claims could have some validity and truth. Perhaps science has yet to catch up with her spiritualist techniques.
Rating: Summary: Sylvia is the best! Review: I own all of Sylvia Browne books, and she is the greatest author ever. Her books bring great understanding to the things we never imagined. All her books will definately open your eyes. This is a great book, I recommend everyone read it, and then go on to read all the ones that follow, you will not be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: If U Like Bad+Trite Fantasy Writing Then Read This Book! Review: I read this at the proding of some friends. What a peice of garbage!!! I've heard of so-called modern-mythology but this smacks of the most trivial and amateurish drivel I have ever read. I can't believe anyone would spend their hard earned money on this made-up trash. I mean, COME ON!!! "Scanning Machines" that reveal your life history?! Buildings that "trained" angels take you to such as the "Hall of Justice" or orientation rooms,or "Hall of Records". A "Council of Elders"!!?? What is this? - a rough draft to an childish attempt at a comic book!!! I've played video games with better stories!!!. If you believe in God then WHY would an all-knowing all-powerful "God" need a place to store "historical data" or to have you "debriefed" about your life - oh, and "deprogrammed", if they decide you need it!!!!???!! Are we talking about a utopian Nazi state or Heaven???!!! I am NOT kidding or being spiteful - my comparison of what she writes about is totally valid, read it & see!!! If this is Heaven then I think this book will help convince many to become aethiests instead (I know I'm now even more glad I'm one). Wanna good belly laugh then read this book - but my recommendation: SAVE YOUR MONEY!! Why make this wannabe rich? Heck, for that matter, write your own book - most people could come up with a better fantasy and you could make an easy buck.... that is if people actually bother to buy this junk. If you want true utopianism, read "BraveNewWorld" or "1984" - true classics that say a whole lot more about the human condition than this fairy tale.
Rating: Summary: I love these kinds of books Review: I love these kids of books, it really makes you think that there is truly life after death and how wonderful it will be.
