Rating: Summary: Sylvia needs a new Spirit Guide Review: Though I'm not entirely sold on spiritualism, I read this book out of interest. I agree or don't argue with much of what she had to say, but had to contest some of her beliefs with a wide smirk, such as her notion that everybody on The Other Side is 30 years old (as told to her by her Spirit Guide, Francine). And although Browne admits to not being entirely accurate with her predictions, I think only one or two out of the several forecasts she made for 2000 came close to being true. However, it was nonetheless an interesting read, worthy of discussion.
Rating: Summary: The same info... Review: Sylvia has written the same book at least four times... while
one was interesting the first time, it was disappointing to buy several of her other books and find very little information that
was different. Two are so similar, I had to check the book jacket to make sure I wasn't reading the same book !
Rating: Summary: Intriguing Review: I like watching her on TV, so I picked up a few of her books when I found them at a gernousl cheap price. I enjoyed reading this book. Some of this stuff was a bit hard to swallow, and I found my left eybrow raised a bit during a few instances. Nevertheless, I admit I've adopted a few of her ideas, both conciously and seemingly subconciously, and adding some 'to the mix' in my way of thinking and perceiving the world around me. I was kind of alienated, as I'm sure other readers were, by her "white light of the holy spirit and Jesus Christ" stuff...
Rating: Summary: Truely amazing. Review: If you're the type of person that is unsure or skeptical about psychics or even your own life, then I recommend this book to you with out a doubt. Even if you're just curious, this book brings every different feeling, person, and personality together and leaves you with a feeling of "wow". Sylvia Browne takes laughter and seriousness into one small book to the point that all I have to say is that this is a MUST read. God bless and enjoy!
Rating: Summary: So positive and interesting Review: I wasn't sure about this book when my mom handed it to me, but I couldn't put it down once I started. So many of the things that Sylvia says I feel that already knew but hadn't put them into words. I think that everyone could take something positive away from reading this book, regardless of what you decide you want to accept as 'real'. I highly recommend it to anyone who is wanting to become a more positive person. And she's funny.
Rating: Summary: Sylvia browne is a legitimate psychic whose book was great Review: The other side and back was the first Sylvia Browne book I ever read. I was extrememly impressed, and of course skeptical when I first started reading it. When I read the other online reviews ( the negative ones), I was amazed at the comments. Sylvia Browne has been on many shows, Larry King live, Montel, among others. Her gift has been proven, and she has worked on many police cases when their searches run out of leads (and she doesn't take money, or want money in any of those cases either). Her books, whether anyone believes them or not, only sheds truth about what life is about. She says to take what you want from the book, and leave the rest behind. In this day and age, where some religion teaches taught that you will go to hell if you don't believe, I think it is refreshing that we can have another perspective on things. And I think that's what scares people the most. The fact that there are legitmate psychic's out there who do have a unique gift from god, that don't promote the idea of sin or fear or hell. They are only trying to tell you not to live in guilt, to live in joy and happiness. But of course, be mindful of your actions. We are resposible for ourselves. She teaches to try to understand why the world is the way it is, the pain, the misery, why it gets so hard. That's what I learned from this book. I have an illness, and it's not easy. This book was extrememly enlightening, and like she says, take what you want, leave the rest. She is not trying to push it down your throat. She also gives predictions, and again, psychics aren't 100%, they aren't god, but good ones, are pretty accurate. She has an accuracy way above 70%. Also, psychic's timing of thier predictions can be off as I have read. So for the other comment, about why didn't she mention Iraq, and so forth. She actually predicted 9/11, but she was off about the timing. She predicted it, as I recall, for 1999, but of course we all know it happened in 2001. Predictions change, b/c we change things when we make a different choice, or so I believe. She does have a newsletter, that releases predictions, and on Montel, they talk about future predictions as well. In case anyone would like to check it out. But for her book, the Other side and back, it was the best book for me to start with, and I think it would be for anyone as well too. It gave me some answers with my constant battling of health problems. Also, I was lucky to find a legitimate psychic in my city, who believes in Sylvia, who had the same philosophy as hers, but who knew things about me that no one could of knew. I was amazed at his gift. He was 20, only knew my first name, and knew things like my illness, surgeries, siblings, etc. So beleive me, psychics exist. Thanks.
Rating: Summary: Sylvia needs a new Spirit Guide Review: I had three major issues with this book. It was uncomfortable reading that every one on the other side is 30 years old and that we get 5 exit points. These seem too convenient and almost childish. Sylvia has done a disservice to herself and her readers by peppering her book with Christian teachings. By taking this approach, she severly restricted its universal appeal. I strongly believe that religion has nothing to do with spirituality and I don't think Sylvia has learned this lesson yet. Spirituality transcends religion and is beyond petty religious differences. Spiritiuality is broad and deep, very broad and deep. You have to lose your identity, before you can experience spirituality and that is a lesson that religion does not teach us. Religion thrives on differences, while spirtuality emphasizes interconnectedness. Just witness the turmoil throughout this wonderful world and you will realize that for most religions spiritualism is dead. Finally, Sylvia why did you include that chapter on predictions? You did yourself a great disservice. This chapter alone destroyed your credibility in my eyes. You made no reference to: September 11 2001; the Taliban's fall, Bin Laden and Al-Qaeda's terrorism; Sadam Hussien's ungraceful fall; North Korea's leader; the Colombia disaster; the Iraq war; the successful Mars landing; the Bush, Gore presidential fight. And why did you think it was necessary to predict the events in the lives of some Hollywood celebrities? Pretty petty stuff in the light of what you missed. Sylvia, I hope, these constructive criticisms will not compel you to cast me in the role of a Dark entity.
Rating: Summary: Awesome read, I'm Hooked! Review: This book has totally changed my outlook on life and death for the better! I no longer fear death and have a more positive attitude towards life. Sylvia is inspiring and her content is easy to follow and makes sense. I found her to be very interesting and intriguing. I really enjoyed this book, it was hard to put down. I have not been much of a reader in the past but I am now! I am reading another one of her books and plan on buying a couple more.
