Rating: Summary: A must-read for church leaders Review: Edwards gives an enlightening perspective on leadership styles in the context of King Saul, King David, and David's son Absolom. Conflict resolution is a part of every church leader's life, but what happens when the conflict is within the church leadership, or between the leadership and the congregation? Edwards gives unique insight into the Biblical pattern for conflict resolution. This text should be required reading for any seminary student or church staff.
Rating: Summary: Insightful Revelation Review: For those wounded soliders at the hands of those whom they lovingly served, this book will provide you with a soothing balm of understanding. Edwards gives the reader three examples of personality types, most of which exist within our very selves, which explore the person within. You will ask yourself whether you are David, Absalom or Saul and if you can relate to one, in some ways you may relate to all. This gave me some clarity and healing in a personal situation as I read it.
Rating: Summary: hit it right on the nail Review: Gene Edwards does a GREAT job in a tale of three kings. He guides the reader through this wonderful tale of three biblical characters (Kings) and how the life and sufferings of one king can change the attitude and personality of many reading this book. He also brings forth where the other two kings went wrong and how that is an example of what not to do. I highly recommend this book to all who bear scars of suffering for the sake of following Christ.
Rating: Summary: A Classic! Review: Great Book on brokenness, also read The Calvery Road by Roy Hession
Rating: Summary: Continues to challenge me Review: I first read this book in one night at work 10 years ago, and it continues to affect my outlook and spiritual life today. This book has affected my life more than any other I've ever read (except the Bible, of course!) Gene Edwards takes emotionally- laden issues like submission to authority and pride, and presents them in a way that forces you to look at not the situation, but your response to it. Mr Edwards offers us a unique way to measure our motivations and responses to challenges we face against a godly framework. You will want to order several more to give away after you read this. God bless!
Rating: Summary: Life Changing - A Classic! Review: I have bought several copies over the years since I first read this book. I keep giving copies away to friends who quickly become Gene Edwards fans. I have read many of his books and love them all but THIS is my favorite. YOU WILL NOT REGRET GETTING THIS BOOK!
Rating: Summary: A Tale of Three King: A Study of Brokenness Review: I have owned this book for years. The other night God had me to read this book at 11:30 pm. I read the first chapter and I wanted to put it down (it made me weep). Gene Edwards said I know you didn't like that chapter and you won't like the other chapter either. He was right. It showed me of myself. When I read I heard myself saying the same words that I was reading. After each chapter, God said keep reading. This book was awesome. I never looked at David the way he was protrayed in this book. I read the whole book before going to bed. I learned alot about myself, people in church and especially leadership over me. Everyone should read this book.
Rating: Summary: For leaders, would be leaders, and all who have been hurt Review: In his picture-painting style, Gene Edwards brings us back to the time of David.Starting when David was just a shepherd boy,the author unfolds one of the most incredible stories from the bible and turns it into a tale of three kings. He shows David as the vulnerable young boy who would be king, singing and playing his harp to keep himself company, practicing his stone slinging, which would one day be used by God to vanquish Goliath. His faith and lack of fear of things of this world is shown perfectly by the author as he kills bears and takes on the nine foot Goliath as a boy while the other men cower.Saul is depicted as the madman he was, tormented by the spirit sent from God,Saul is shown as one who has fallen from God's grace, and even when he tries to kill David,David honors him as one chosen by God.Absalom is shown as the egotistical self-centered son, who uses everyone and anyone to try to destroy hisown father. This work shows the integrity of David as well as his humanity. One of the best statements in
Rating: Summary: Must reading for those who have been victimized by others. Review: It is very tempting to conclude that the painful things in life that happen to us are mere accidents, or, perhaps, the malicious ways of others. But, in A TALE OF THREE KINGS, Gene Edwards shows us that the key to survival is our RESPONSE! He points this out in David's response to Saul, and his later treatment of Absalom. After reading this book, the reader has a better understanding of what's going on behind the scenes. It is no longer a case of others doing me wrong, but, a case of ME learning to respond to others, INSPITE OF THE WAY I AM TREATED. This book can assist the reader in moving away from the "victim mentality."
Rating: Summary: In one word - Awesome! Review: Not only should church leaders read this book, but anyone who considers themselves to be new in the Lord. This book will help you look inside your own heart and check your own motives, so that you can decide if you are of the Line of David, the Line of Saul or the Line of Absalom. It's definately a must read!
