Rating: Summary: DEFINATELY THE CAR-POOL LANE ON THE HIGHWAY TO HELL Review: I WAS RAISED CHRISTIAN. I FEEL THAT IN ORDER TO BE A GOOD PERSON OR LEARN HOW TO BECOME A BETTER ONE, YOU NEED TO HAVE KNOWLEDGE OF THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY. I FOUND IT VERY UNFORTUNATE THAT THERE ARE OTHER PEOPLE IN THIS WORLD THAT ABIDE BY SUCH GARBAGE. A PERSON WOULD HAVE TO BE AN IMBECILE (SUCH AS La VEY) TO EVEN BELIEVE ANY NONSENSE IN La VEY'S POOR PATHETIC PAMPHLET OF A BIBLE. I RECOMEND IT TO READERS WHO ARE NOT COMPLETELY SURE OF THEIR LIFESTYLE AND TO THE TRASH. " LIVE SPELLED BACKWARD IS EVIL, AND TO BE EVIL IS TO LIVE". THAT WAS La VEY'S BEST ANALOGY OF THE ALLMIGHTY SATANIST...VERY SIMPLEMINDED. THIS BOOK WILL PUT YOU TO SLEEP AND AT THE SAME TIME MAKE YOU FEAR FOR YOUR LIFE AT THE THOUGHT THAT THERE ARE PEOPLE IN THIS WORLD THAT RELATE TO THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL LEVEL TEACHINGS OF La VEY. I HOPE GOD HAS MERCY ON THEIR SOULS AND I MYSELF PREY FOR ANTON La VEY PERSONALLY. SURELY IF MR. SATAN READ La VEY'S WYLE E. COYOTE VERSION OF THE SATANIC BIBLE HE WOULD TAKE IT UPON HIMSELF TO FRY ANTON SZANDOR La VEY PERSONALLY IN HIS BEST SKILLIT FOR MAKING THE DARK PRINCE APPEAR TO HAVE THE BRAINS, MENTALITY, AND MAGIC OF A GOLDFISH...(SUCH AS La VEY). I STRONGLY CANNOT RELATE TO SUCH A POOR SO-CALLED MASTERPIECE THAT IS NOT MORE THAN TURNED AROUND FALSE-TRUTH, SELF-IMPORTANCE, BOLD-FACE LIES, AND PREACHES HATE. I PERSONALLY RECOMEND "THE DEVIL" BY GENEVIEVE MORGAN IF YOU WANT MORE PRACTICAL SPECULATION AND DEFINITION OF OF THE DARK ONE AND HIS MINIONS.
Rating: Summary: Come on people... Review: Seriously, all the Christian fantaics who say say bad things about this book are only looking at the name Satan. The book even says that it uses the name to REPRESENT the desires of human beings. So why don't we all be human about it and allow everyone to have their idea of religion, instead of preaching yours as the only one that is "true". THe book even says if Satanism isn't working for you, then quit. People might say this is a "philosophical failure", but it's another option for your beliefs.
Rating: Summary: Stupid Review: I know satanists aren't THIS dumb, even though I am not a satanist (Actually a Christian). And is it possible for a jock to be a satanist? Yes. Isn't everyone different? This is too much like a horroscope, and it doesn't even make sense to me.BUT, to me Jesus freaks usually have at least one awful situations, and you can't call yourself something without knowing the meaning. Get a life and avoid this!
Rating: Summary: Philosophical failure Review: Anyone who has lost admiration for daily facts that are important for themselves, because they exist, would undoubtly be surprised by the honesty of the Satanic Bible. Yes, it is honest in fact. However, it doesn't propose a radical solution for today's reality. I conclude that LaVey's thought is just a reactionary point of view against Catholic Church, Cristianism and the weakness of the modern human. Who's to deffend Catholic Church and Cristianism now? Only an idolatric man. Who's to deffend Satanism? A narrow minded guy who has never picked a philosophy book and feels different only for the fact that he is in the opposite side. I can say that Satanists are another herd that's getting bigger because the same weak people you criticize are reading the Satanic Bible and think that it is honest. And what else is it? In the first chapter, it attacks cristian dogmas. But Cristianism and Satanism have a very important thing in common that results in a contradiction for Satanism. What is the problem with Catholic sins? its content or the fact that they are sins? I think it is the fact that they are so called sins because they catch human conciousnes with whatever its content is. So Satanism condemns sins because they catch human conciousness, but satanism also has sins. Anton LaVey should have been aware of something so simple before he died. I can also say that Satanism is dangerous for mankind because it feeds disputes between the so called "weak" and the "strong". It also creates a sense of superiority. And for those who feel safe behind Nietzche, well, an "Ubermensch" is fully individual in the sense that he creates his own moral. Those who follow a moral not created by themselves are part of a herd. Satanists are a herd. A give two points because I'm aware that LaVey spent time writing and copying the book "Might is Right", he might have got tired and that may have fasten his death, eventhough it was necessary for humanity. You should better buy Thus Spake Zaratustra to feel like an Ubermensch or like a slave.
Rating: Summary: I don't understand some outspoken christians Review: Narrow minded people.... Okay, it's your belief, but don't critizise others. If you take the fundamental view of the Bible, I urge you to read "Inherit the Wind", which is a play that is based on the Scopes/Monkey Trials. It is not pure fiction, but rather taken from a real trial that occured in the past. You will find many arguments that show the Bible is ridiculous (e.g. creation, stoppage of the sun). The arguments stemming from the trial are insightful and hold truth. So, please pick up a copy and stop yourself from being ignorant.
Rating: Summary: It's a 'devine' classic ^^ Review: I've owned this book for 4 years, and I must say it's really turned my life into another direction for where it was headed. LaVey had to courage to collectively compose all the thoughts EVERYONE on this planet have thought at one point or another. The record needs to be set straight: The stereotypical image of "Satanism" is not what this book glorifies. For the most part it condemns it. Those whacko teens who cut up animals and kidnap babies are merely mis-guided drug-junkies who got a little too creative -- they just use the inverted pentagram as propaganda. Satanism is, like mentioned before, a religion in the most 'surface-level' sense. It's more of a lifestyle that can be run entirely in parallel with a fruitful and successful life. You don't need to dawn black garments and paint your face black and live in a cave. I'm a Network Engineer for a international corporation, and have a wonderful relationship with a wonderful girl. Believe it or not, skeptics, I was taught more about 'living life' from this book than any other. The 'Bible', which so many people I know tort day in/day out, seems the polar opposite: 'bearing through life until it ends in hopes that you'll live eternally in paradise'. That's hardly living. "God" is nothing more than a paraphysical avatar of mankind's desire to feel 'protected' and less insignificant. Otherwise why do religions claim other religions are wrong? How do they know one way or another, since their own deity is no more real than the one they say is pure fiction? It just seems to me like you are taking a HUGE gamble by sacrificing the pleasures of life in hopes to earn yourself a ticket to a better place when you die. Christians call this 'faith', I call it 'denial'. Those they call 'Faithless' are really faithful in the places that count. They have faith in their ability to succeed, to take chances in life to make it better for themselves and those they love, and ultimately in the hopes that the precious years we have on this Earth will be lived in our own paradise. Then they'll ask, "why all the devil references?". Well, what better way to give our fragile subconcious strength to believe the way we want than to manifest our own divine avatar to combat God? We mentally picture it as a source of power, but know full well it's coming from within. After all, we're all human.
Rating: Summary: A fasinating voyage of self-discovery... Review: ...culminated in this book. It began when the myths of Satanism were shattered by a TV special that explained what it really was. From that day on, I researched Satanism intently, soon discovering that many of the beliefs and principles involved in Satanism were very reflective in me. This book was the final step in the path. An excellently crafted work that I have read through once and plan to read again and again. Anton LaVey is a brilliant man, and this writing only proves it further. I am a Satanist and proud to refer to myself as one. To anyone, Satanist or not, this is a very good read. It's well written and definately makes one think.
Rating: Summary: Perfect for "jocks keep beating me up" high school Satanists Review: Being a Christian, I always try to be open-minded and at least give other people's philosophies a decent reading, but this "work" was a joke. If you are seriously studying philosophy, whether good or evil, this book is NOT for you. Full of fallacies and double-standards, LaVey basically just took the Ten Commandments and came up with a bunch of opposite, or anti-Commandments. Then he wrote a whole book about them. There is no originality...and the few times he does try to philosophize, it is the words of Darwin and Nietszche poorly hidden behind Satanism. Perfect if you're a Marilyn Mansonite looking to wow what few friends you have with meaningless rituals. I know a few serious witches, and they laugh at this book.
Rating: Summary: Truly Satanic thought from a truly Satanic point of view Review: This book is the wonderful result of LaVey's research into philosophy, in which he drew from the likes of Darwin, Machiavelli, Rand, etc. While many apparently feel this is unoriginal and a rip-off, consider for a minute that practically every piece of work available has various external sources as points of inspiration; LaVey has taken the best elements of these modes of thought and codified them into a workable, living religion. The point of philosophy is not to be as original (read: ridiculous) as possible, but to advance one's theories. What many detractors fail to note is that Rand also took inspiration from external sources, as did Crowley (namely, the existing rites of the Order of the Golden Dawn) and all others before. If a treatise in literature is what you seek, I suggest you look into John Milton, instead of whining about the SB's lack of prose; it is not intended to be prose, that's why it doesn't have any prose. If, however, you are seeking a powerful philosophy rooted in human nature, backed by logic, and enjoyable to live and practice, then look no further. Oh, and one final note, this book makes much more sense if you actually READ it.
Rating: Summary: Christianity & Satanism Dialogue Review: Reading this book, I can't see any big difference between 21th century Christianity & Satanism. Satanic Bible is saying something like "life is too short to deny yourself pleasure and when ever you feel like it, do it, and be more naturalistic." On the other hand, Christianity now is "you can do what you want, and get away with it" religion. As long as one accepts Jesus Christ as his/her lord and savior he/she will be forgiven no matter what. However, being skeptical about Christianity, I can see how this book might be offensive to many Christians because they will realize that they are living more according to the Satanic Bible rather than to Holy Bible, and that figurative ways of interpreting the Holy Bible is just making it much ir less the same as the Satanic Bible. Anyway, for non Satanist, this book is a waste of money because it really don't tell much except for arguing to be more "naturalistic." The rest is some Satanic rituals and stuff. For those who are looking for an anit-Bible book this is not it, but I would rather recommend "Ken's Guide to the Bible" for Ken Smith, or "The Encyclopedia of Biblical Errancy" for Dennis McKinsey. This is not also an anti-Christianity book as it may implies, but rahter a commercial book for fun.
