Rating: Summary: A Great Philosophy For Living Review: Although I don't agree 100% (probably more like 90%) with Lavey, I do find his writings very refreshing. His philosophies teach self-fullfillment & empowerment. The section on Satanic magic is very straight-foreward & the rituals themselves, very powerful. I recommend this to everyone!
Rating: Summary: that crazy ol' coot! Review: ok, you want a summery you got it; the satanic bible is 1 part mind blowing philosophy. 1 part crazy old man rambling on about whatever tickles or irks his fancy. pure and simple this is what anton lavey is all about. Good for a read if satanists frighten you, because they shouldn't and if they do you're [crazy]. Also good for a read if you are just curious. Obviously also if you're looking to join up with the now dead anton and his crew. For more laughs and insight into where Marilyn Manson got most of his earlier lyrics check out The Devil's Notebook which is FAR more parts crazy old man than the satanic bible. The christian bible is still funnier, at least this one actually has some usable philosophy though. Great read.
Rating: Summary: Humanist? Please! Review: I would definitely describe this book with a few words: Atheist. Self-centrist. Hedonist. Self-aggrandizing. And yes, even honest, in parts. But humanist? Someone needs a dictionary. None of the personal way of life described in this book could be described as humanist. Humanists believe in a better life for all of humanity, and that's certainly not a thing of which you could accuse Lavey. I think people use the word 'humanist' because it is the most commonly known non-religious ethical system. But if anything, Lavey's Satanism is anti-humanist. Where humanism demands that you act charitably toward your fellow man regardless of his position in life, Satanism demands that you crush those who stand in the way of your goals...this seems irrational. And as others have mentioned, Satanism does still qualify as a religion, albeit a godless one (like Buddhism). Lavey was still the head of that church, and that makes him no better than any other con-man in the religious game: making you think you have free will, only to become subservient to a new master. This is hardly humanist. Philosophically, he draws from the right sources, but the practical results are that the Satanist is a member of just another religion, still giving away his self-worth and money. He is at least honest about his ambitions, but I don't think this makes his system better. Slavery is slavery.
Rating: Summary: the idiot's guide to being an attention seeking loser Review: for all his pretentious and amusing talk about being a 'high priest of magick' or whatever else this sensationalist fake [people] out when he's in the mood to scrawl more drivel, there can be little doubt that anton lavey is simply a media figure and a charlatan--and he isn't even very good at that. the so called 'philosophy' expounded here is nothing but bastardized nietzsche and egoistic nihilism that has been expressed infinitely better elsewhere, or anywhere, when one really thinks about it. the whole notion of 'satanism' is borne of adolescent identity crisises and pseudo-rebellious oxymorons:they claim to be misunderstood individualists and non conformists and yet belong to a church, and lavey says that satanists as a whole are anti-social intellectuals just doing their own thing as they dress up in black robes and hail an otherworldly deity they claim to not really believe in. anyone else noticing a few inconsistencies here? and even aside from the fact that this entire thing is a hoax and a mind numblingly contradictory crock, the anti christian rhetoric is utterly dated and stale. it's been said, and said, and then some, and lavey seems to imagine that no one else has read the philosophers that he's lifted all this trite, pointless nonsense from. is it legitimate to reject society's expectations and go one's own way? absolutely, provided one is actually going one's own way and not jumping up and down like a fourteen year old with a marilyn manson t-shirt on screaming, "look at me, look at me!" this guy should have stuck to organ playing.
Rating: Summary: The truth about Satanic philosophy Review: When I came upon this book, ...I never bought the book or flipped through it, it just captured my interest. Then I decided to buy it through Amazon.com sellers, to get the facts straight on Satanism. There are people out there that think Satan is this guy who's red all over, has horns on his head, forked tail, etc. That is utter nonsense, made up by wives tales and myths.Satanism is more like a philosophyyou can apply to your daily life.Basically, it's taking Christianityand turning it upside down. For example, indulging in something instead of abstaining from it. Satanists are not child molesters, murderers, or criminals. It is taking care of yourself and those that you love who deserve it. Thisbook really explains the truths about Satanism entirely. If you arecurious, then buy the book.
Rating: Summary: This book tells stuff we already know. Review: This book contains a way of life that mostly everyone adheres to anyway. No book is needed for instruction. The text contains bigotry and intolerance for all other religions besides itself. Bizarre, desperate rituals are described as "pleasurable" and a real lack of dignity ensues. If anyone acted like the book dictates, this world would crumble from selfishness and petty quarreling. The author's thoughts are bitter and infantile. Not recommended.
Rating: Summary: Painful Review: I read this book thinking that maybe it would be at least be interesting. It wasn't. If you basically have no understanding of psychology and/or philosophy then maybe this garbage might get you excited, otherwise, save your time and your money. It's basically a blend of Ayn Rand and Nietzsche mixed with a bit of hocus pocus. But where I can respect, if not completely agree with, both Rand and Nietzsche I have no respect for Lavey or his silly book.
Rating: Summary: A worthy book, the key to satanism Review: This book is a must have. This book contains THE material of the fresh form of satanism! This book is one of those books that you must have in you're bookcase. For certain one of the most satanic materials.
Rating: Summary: The beginning of the New Satanism Review: This book contains the Keys to the new satanism, the philosophy for humans for a free live. Anton LaVey shows in this book, a new life philosophy for a worthy live. Only 35 years old this book is never been out of print. Why, because satanism has a core of truth inside, it enables the followers ( they don't follow ) to follow there own hearts, make there own choices. Those who have read this book are changed forever.
Rating: Summary: A Complete Violation Of The Threefold Law Review: This book, The Satanic Bible, is M.LeVay's theo-political manifesto on the Satanic Faith. If the Government -- or the Vatican -- had international book-banning powers, this book would be the first on the list. Although, being a Wiccan High Priest, I do not entirely aggree with all of the precepts in The Satanic Bible, I DO INDEED AGREE with the ideal of personal empowerment that M.LaVey teaches to us. I highly recommend this book to any mature individual who wishes to empower himself or herself. Furthermore, possession of the book is likely to be banned one Day, so the mass distribution of it is likely to preserve the writings of an unquestionably powerful man for generations to come.
