Summary: Not Extreme Enough
Review: This is just another one of the writer, Anton LaVey's interesting jobs. They are not extreme enough. I joined a rival, more extreme organization because the views expressed in this book are not extreme enough. The writer was a "satanist" for exhibition; if you know anything about his autobiography it is all false information in order to heighten his image as a satanist. The good parts are the philosophical aspects, particularly the chapter "The Book of Satan" is easy to agree with. I don't point very much adherance into this philosophy anymore. If it were better, it would be more extreme/ intolerance to other belief systems with more degrading language. This is pointless to call it "satanism" because it's just like any other. A more legitimate version of Satanism wouldn't tolerate others' faiths and be 100 percent certain there's is true. This is a weak religion like Wicca.

Summary: At Least, Entertaining...At Most, Enlightening
Review: Okay, now looking at this book, throw out the words "Satanic" and "Bible" from your consideration. Can you do that? If so, you're ready to embrace everything this book has to offer without the weight of societal prejudice to weigh you down.

This book isn't talking about hating deity or being the Antichrist or any kind of dross like that. Shock of shocks--this is a book of PHILOSOPHY. Whether LaVey himself originally conceived of these ideas or not is unimportant; he did write them down so that you and I could use our own minds to read, ponder, and draw our own conclusions.

Here's my tip, folks. LaVey has five Satanic tomes to his credit. Most people begin with the Satanic Bible, but I think this is a mistake. If you are just beginning to explore LaVey's world, read the Devil's Notebook or Satan Speaks! before attempting this one. I say this because the other books are examples of philosophy in action, and the Satanic Bible might be clearer for a reader with this background.

And if you get easily offended at the word "Satanic", remember there are plenty of people around who would get offended by the word "Bible".

Summary: Good basis, but idk if this ever had to go on paper...
Review: But he made a load of money off of it didnt he!! This book was just the begining of a huge joke which is modern satanism. He took what had been a brutal cult ritualistic religon, and toned it down for the avg. 13 yr old into the 'evils' of rock and roll to grab on to, and now its a big buisness between their corny web page and huge web store w/ everything from pins to cups they are makin a bucketload. What a load of crap, dont bother with this garbage, even if the logic makes sence. The logic in this book is natural type logic, satanism was never meant to be published.

Summary: Good guide to self-directed pyschodramatic therapy
Review: Regardless of whether or not you are religiously inclined, or do or do not believe in the literal existence of Satan, if you are an intelligent person you will almost certainly believe that most of "The Black Pope's" philosophical arguments make perfect sense once you read this most entertaining book. As for the rituals, there is very little herein that one can not find in any treatise on the Gardnerian variety of witchcraft (known as Wicca to us moderns). My biggest problem with LaVey is that he attacks the Wiccans for being "white light" and Christian influenced when he himself can not break free of the Judeo-Christian traditions he claims to despise: why not call Pan by his own name instead of Satan's? Why drag in a lot of biblical devil names when the list of indiginous European deity names serve the purpose so much better? Was LaVey a true pagan or just a rebellious Christian? Makes me wonder... The rituals do not differ that much from the standard Wiccan rites (sword, chalice, altar, pentacle, candles, the quarters and elements, the eight standard witchcraft holidays on which to preform rites, invocations, lust/destruction/compassion visualizations, burning messages to be sent into the aether, etc.). I must admit, I could do without all of the Enochian Key nonsense. If you are into ceremonial magic and mind-cleansing psychodrama, AND REALLY FEEL THE NEED TO BUG YOUR PIOUS CHRISTIAN FRIENDS, NEIGHBORS, AND FAMILY, then buy this book and take it to heart. If the first two of these apply to you (and not the third), then just buy this book for entertainment and knowledge. I suppose the rituals in the SB are a good way to relieve stress and to motivate yourself to action, if you're comfortable with (and entertained by) all of the satanic imagery. Otherwise, look into Wicca.

Summary: Duh. Open your eyes, people.
Review: Jeez, people. Open your eyes. Satanism teaches you to believe in yourself. You all need to check out the 9 Deadly Sins of Satanism, and the 11 Commandments of Satanism.

Regardless, this book was fairly decent. It wasn't as good as I had hoped it to be. But for those who would like a good read, or are interested in Satanism in the least (perhaps it has piqued your interest), or just something to read for the sake of reading, pick this book up. You won't regret it.

Summary: This book is blasphamous and sickening
Review: Why not pick up the bible and read about how God loves us all and how we will live with him in heaven some day, but those who worship Satan will dwell in hell with him for all eternity.

Summary: no problem with Satanism...just this book
Review: This book is very easy to read and comprehend but his ideas are nothing new. I'm sure you've all heard that the book is a Nietzsche ripoff and... I kind of agree. The material is not very original. The info presented in this almost-300-pages book could have been better presented in, say, 50 pages (maybe even less!) This book contains lots of fillers.

I actually read this book as a PDF file online so save your money and search for it (if you're willing to waste your time.)

It would be so much better to just turn this book into a WEBSITE format (which Im sure it has been). I'm sure it would be a little more appreciated that way.

Summary: Discredited Author
Review: One of the biggest criticisms of christians is that they have "blind faith" and are not willing to explore other ideas to challenge their own. As a christian myself, I decided to mull through this so called "bible" to explore what Mr. Levay had to say. The only problem is is that a Mr. "Levay" never existed - his name was actually Howard Stanton Levey. This sets up the rest of the story which is one of great exaggeration and outright lies - a man who built his entire legacy on falsehoods, from playing in the carnival to his so called involvement in the film "Rosemary's Baby." He was also a violent man who, according to a 1984 police report, beat and strangeld his wife into unconsciousness. It is unfortunate that some people feel the need to create falsehoods in order to make themselves more fit to produce work such as his. The book itself is full of misinterpretations of the Bible and an ever present ignorance of the scriptures as well. At least the Bible itself is rooted in history, and not in fabrications of a troubled man. One star for at least being an interesting read.

Summary: want the truth about satanism?
Review: read a book called "ritual abuse" by kevin marron.

i don't believe it's available through amazon.com, but i know it is available through amazon.ca for only $4.32 canadian currency.

if you read this book, you will see that horrible things (i.e. child sacrifice, rape, canabilism, torture, masturbating children with thier own severed body parts, etc.) is connected with satanism.

if you want to live a path of self-indulgence, fine, but do NOT do it in the context of satanism. and if you want to use rituals and magic to get what you want, you can do wicca, which is non-violent and respectful of life, love, nature, etc.

Summary: The path and philosophy of gratification of the base ego
Review: It is despicable how LaVey includes the Enochian Keys as part of his system. Now many people actually associate the Enochian system with Satanism or black magic. I give this one two stars because it definitely keeps your interest, and almost everyone at one time in his life -- usually in the teenage years -- can identify with some of the philosophies put forth in the Satanic Bible. But these things are meant to be outgrown, as one learns the tremendous setbacks of a fundamentally self-centered mindset and lifestyle. The rituals -- particularly the curses -- will in all likelihood blow up in your face and cause you some species of misfortune if you choose to practice them. The strength of this book is in LaVey's personal philosophies and insights -- not very far off from Ayn Rand's Objectivism.
