Rating: Summary: An interesting expose of Levey's Satanism Review: Like any philisophical work, this book will appear to be brilliant to those who want it to be. However, look deep into the book. The philosophy put forth here is warmed-over, simplified works of other philosophers. Even more interesting, is the more you read, the more you see how Anton Levey seems to support the same hypocracy that he attacks. An interesting commentary of this book and Levey's Satanism is found in Cornerstone Magazine's August 1998 issue.
Rating: Summary: Eye opening look into the true side of Satanism. Review: When I first bought this book, I was 15(I'm 16 now)and it was after reading The Secret Life of a Satanist by Blanche Barton and I wanted to learn more about Satanism. I had, at first, just planned to research it like I do many other metaphysical religions like Wicca. At that time, I had been very confused of what religion I wanted to be a part of. After I read this book, I found that I had been a Satanist all my life. Every statement that Dr. LaVey wrote in this book seemed to apply to me perfectly. I now use this book for reference all the time. I have it next to me right now as I write this review even. I feel that the money I spent on buying this book was very well spent. And I believe that the money I spend to join the official Church of Satan will be well worth it as well.
Rating: Summary: the truth behind the paranoia Review: There are many misconceptions about The Church of Satan and this book serves to dispell many of them. LeVay's particular brand of satanism is a reaction against many of the earlier forms and does much to discredit all the "evil" followers. This is really a simple book outlining the ways in which leVay believes one should live. While one can discredit his beliefs as much as any other, this is still an important book. Good for those who think they know what satanism is about and all those that trash it without really understanding it. Ofcourse one should realize this is one idea among many in satanism.
Rating: Summary: Don't judge it until you read it! Review: LaVey explains in great detail the ins and outs of satanism. To the ignorant, this book may seem evil, but is really an excellent work than makes alot more sense than the bible.
Rating: Summary: Powerful speaking from a powerful mind. Review: Although Satanism has been shunned by just about every "normal" person in the US, It is not about digging up graves, killing babies and rape. In fact if you read up on it (which most people wouldn't because they're too scared of being seen purchasing the book) you will discover that Christianity actually teaches more malicious beliefs than Satanism. LaVey is an excellent writer and has strong beliefs which I respect. A truly great book for the open-minded or the socially lost individual.
Rating: Summary: This is a great book Review: If you really want to understand what being a satanist is about, then you need to get this book. It has really helped me understand more about the life of a satanist. I had always believed that satanists were evil but they're not, they're just like everyone else. I'm proud to call myself a satanist. If you want to know more about the book or myself e-mail me.
Rating: Summary: The most logical views on human nature I have ever read! Review: I never quite believed the religous guidelines that I was brainwashed into believing as a child, and by the time I was grown, I considered the Holy Bible a pack of lies. Every Christian I had known had been nothing more than a hypocrite. I was curious about the Satanic religion, and knowing nothing about it, I decided to read The Satanic Bible. I laughed as I read it. I agreed with EVERY SINGLE ONE of LaVey's views! I had been a Satanist for years and hadn't known it! I realized that Satanism was not "evil' at all. LaVey is not trying to make himself seem all-powerful and all-knowing, as many of the ministers I had known while growing up did. He was just telling the truth about life and human nature. Buying this book will be the best thing you ever do!
Rating: Summary: Tragic. Review: I don't understand how anyone would look away from Earth's beauty and unto the depths of hell. Yes, hell lies within. But so does heaven. Rid yourself of one-sidedness and look at every aspect of life and death...and then maybe you will achieve something worthwile within your time on earth.
Rating: Summary: A must for those that seek the truth Review: I am 30 years old, and I read the Satanic Bible when I was 16. Throughout the years, the ideas that Anton LaVey was putting forth have stayed with me. This book made me realize that there were other people that had the same ideas about life and religion that I did. Coming from the "bible belt", it's hard to find anyone who would question the church, for fear of "eternal damnation" and all the other threats that religions make to instill fear in the hearts of the followers. The Satanic Bible helps in the affirm our beliefs, if we believe that the christian faith might be wrong. If you're a die hard religious zealot, don't bother reading it, because you'll just grasp at the unreasonable straws of your false religion anyway.
Rating: Summary: ..and the mob roars Review: Anton LaVey simply put years of misconception about Satanism into one easy to read (if the reader has a complete open mind) book. Many people still think of "Satanism" as devil-worship. The one thing that Satanism has in common with Christianity is the many different paths within the same road. "Satanism" is a very broad term. What Anton did with this book is simply clear up a lot of common misconceptions of the term and provide a system of beliefs through years of study and his own life experience. Even in the book itself he does not claim to have come up with an original concept. His point of view has come from many sources. Emerson,Crowley,Thoreau to name a few. What he has done with The Satanic Bible is sum up what he has learned and presented it to the reader from a modern-day logical point of view. What has confused many is why it was called "The Satanic Bible" when all it really is a hedoistic, humanistic and an explanation of the need for fantasy vantage point. As well as calling it a religion with no deity. If the reader remains confused he/she did not use the only thing required to understand what he is talking about and where he is coming from. An open mind.
