Rating: Summary: It was there... and fairly cheap Review: Is LaVey a genious? Probably not. He is how ever one of many who have managed to capture elements of basic human nature on paper. There is a lot of whining here about LaVey's "borrowing" from other litterary works... I really don't care. He has packaged it in a fairly interesting, and at times entertaining book. I guess a religious person would call me an atheist. To ME religion holds the same rank as any hobby like coin or stamp collecting. So I can not call myself an atheist without at the same time having an opinion on all other interests that I don't parttake in. Seeing as how religion is such a widespread phenomenon in the world, I feel it is only healthy to have a certain interest in the diversity that is religion. LaVey's book "The Satanic Bible" provides a glimps into one such religion (a religion that, if I were to become religious, I would have found a whole lot more appealing than for example christianity). Saying that LaVey's satanism is not the true way to practise this religion, is as pathetic as a catholic saying that being a protestant is the wrong way to be a christian, so save your efforts. The best philosophic works you will ever come across are the ones in your OWN mind... trust in them.
Rating: Summary: blankness and void are no longer the blood and vein of me Review: seems so foolish and still yet ironic, how the most unfullfilled humans . . . are the ones to block and judge the ones trying and reaching at fullfillment. This book has not only shown and told and relayed and given and unmasked the leper of the life ive always lived . . . but it has also been almost a gift in many ways towards the life i now wish to persue. A More open mind and textured/cultured soul will you have after the pages of this book. Anyone willing to grow and learn needs at LEAST one run - through of this magnificent book.
Rating: Summary: Antagonizing Read Review: This book does not go in depth into Satanism near so much as it does whine and complain about what is wrong with every other religion. Plus LaVey tries to lead his readers to believe all the heinous stories of Satanism are false, while all the similar stories of other religions are true, making them an easy target for his tireless bellyaching. Comparison examples are used throughout most of the book, and it seems more of a long-drawn out critical analysis of world religion than it does an explanation of Satanism (and yet I got through the entire thing ...painstakingly). This book also leaves many unanswered questions as LaVey describes Satanism as a carnal religion is which the deity to be worshipped is oneself. It doesn't much explain who is Satan, why Satan should be worshipped, or even why he refers to the relion as Satanism. Anti-Christianity or Narcissism would better suit what is described of his religion. Nor does this book mention the Here-After except that according to Christian beliefs we are all going to burn in hell anyways, so we should live it up without concious or remorse while we still can. To sum up, this book is a single man's perspective on how people should act with a popular and yet taboo label on it in order to get it to sell; left me feeling disappointed, unenlightened, and out 5 bucks.
Rating: Summary: It was a very enlightening book. Review: I personally thought it was an absolutly marvelous book to be enjoyed by the Satanic and non-satanic. It was more humorous than I expected. A good book for the begining Satanist. A must have.
Rating: Summary: Haven't read it yet, but I've a comment about Satanism Review: I was raised as a Catholic by my family, which I love alot, and as all good Catholic education, I was thought what is good and what is evil (According to the Catholic persepective) So, I grew up believing that Satanism was "evil". Later on, I discovered the wonders of logical reasoning(Sagan, Asimov, Paine, Huxley, etc) and turned from a single Catholic(despite I'm already conffirmed), into a half Deist (A person who believes in God, but not the way the Bible or Church teaches) half Agnostic guy. So, you now most imagine that I have been called a heretic many times! You should have been there when I stated that Easter had pagan origins and that the anti-christian movement of the book of Revelations was nothing but the works of the religious crazes of the Roman Empire (i.e. the events of Revelations are all based on the events that took place during the early years of Christianity, in other words, there was nothing divine in there. The book of Revelations is just a comfort, a promise of an apparent comming Kingdom.) So, I learned exactly what Satanism is about. All religions are good and bad at times. Stanism is far away of being the perfect religion, along with Catholicism, Hinduism, etc.But still is a good one, as long as it makes you a better being. I learned the difference between Satanism, the real religion, and Satanic sects and cults so mentioned on T.V. La Vey was right. We most enjoy our life because we only live once. Even if the promises of Christianity are true, we don't know for sure. So, instead of bashing around Satanism, only because it "has an ugly name and the figure of an evil being" people should learn how to think critically about things and look at themselves in the mirror before talking. I want to remind people, that Catholicism has done more things to really be enbarrassed, such as the Inquisition, an alliance with the Maffia and some other darker truths. Life is a bitter sweet sinphony! Enjoy it!
Rating: Summary: MAY ALL THE HORRORS OF HELL FALL UPON ALL WHO READ THIS BOOK Review: I have read this book with an open mind and it still couldn't be further from the truth. Although Satanism is not just a defined as only religon but as well as the study of humanism (the right to be human and accepting the mistakes that a human makes). I don't feel that humanism is wrong, but I do think people just try to get away with to much and try to blame it on someone else. This book is something yet to be truly explored. And to those who say its not evil where in this book does it tell you anything about trying to lead not a fun life but about a life without forgiveness form you true creator. A life with the absence of God is not a life at all.......
Rating: Summary: True and Honest Review: A great book that should be read by all. It tell's everyone what Satanism is all about. It's not about killing animals or harming each other. Satanism is about getting the most out of life because you only live once.
Rating: Summary: Not a Satanist, BUT....... Review: Ok, I'm not a Satanist. I'm Wiccan. I do give the book 5 stars, though. It shows that Satanism isn't what you think it is, and that it is an honorable religion or philosophy to have. I fully respect and condone being a Satanist, IF you know what it really is and you aren't just some 15-year old wanna-be Demon Child. I agree with alot of Anton's points. The man is a genius. P.S. Some of you need to learn how to spell his name.
Rating: Summary: Great book for the confused! Review: This book will unveil the truth and guide you threw some of the questions that we might have in our minds. Prehaps if everyone were to read this book society would be more open minded to other more important things. I loved it!
Rating: Summary: Awsome (no more, no less) Review: LaVey was a brilliant man. And it shines in all his books. Happy Walpurgisnacht, to my fellow three. See you in hell LaVey, thanks for the book.
