Summary: terrible
Review: Will somebody please explain to me the way in which religious people are 'sheep'? Fine, the whole evangelical movement is just whacked up, but it's no more pathetic than a bunch of juvenile minds walking around like they're better than everybody else because they read a book by a guy who obviously knew how to exploit the adolescent need to rebel (and his ability to do that so well has earned him that one star). Oh, will some satanists PLEASE e-mail me and tell me how much of a 'sheep' I am and how much of a 'great man' LaVey is so I can absolutely tear them to shreds? Com'on, if you think yer 'ard enough!

Summary: One of the few somewhat more sensible books.
Review: Well let me start by saying that LaVey's satanism is quite humane. His ideas correspond with mine on a lot of issues but even he in his religion apparently finds some use for rituals. In my opinion his satanism would be my #1 philosophy if he ditched all those bloody rituals which turn the whole thing into more of a religion than a philosophy.

It's all based somewhat on the rights of the stronger and the unimportantness of the weak. It's about thinking and making decisions for yourself and not bowing to any master. Anyway, that's what I think are the key elements of LaVey's philosophy and I like them.

Summary: Very good
Review: Even though I am not a Satanist, I do enjoy the message that Anton LaVey is giving. The Satanic Bible is the REAL bible. I recommend this book for everyone to read and learn from it. The truth can only be find in the Satanic Bible and NOT in the VARIOUS other versions of the Holy Bible.

Summary: Poor
Review: I found Anton Lavey's "bible" for Satanism to be pretentious and annoying, with most righteous or agreeable ideas being taken from the works of Ayn Rand, Ragbar Redbeard, Aleister Crowley, and Friedrich Nietszche, only without the brilliance of any of them. Just naming the ethical philsophy within the book "Satanism" is ultimately contradictory and obviously only there for shock value.

Not a suggested read.

Summary: Satanic Bible
Review: A suprisely good read, don't be put off by the title. This book is basically about humanism. If you were brought up in strictly religious enviroment, I think you will find this a liberating and mind expanding read.

Summary: A good dose of reality.
Review: I'm a former member of the Church. However, I did not leavethe Church because I felt the philosophies espoused by Anton Laveywere incorrect. The Satanic Bible offers a good dose of reality to anyone willing to handle it. The REAL reason I left the Church is because I felt, deep down, that this is something LaVey intended of all followers -- that eventually, they'd come to realize that 'group-think' runs counter to the 'individuality' espoused by the philosophy. The Satanic Bible doesn't attempt to edit out the embarassments (like the Bible editing out the Gospel of Thomas, or neglecting to mention how Christian zealots hunted down and 'crucified' a man named Mani who had the audacity to suggest that God and Satan were 'equal' in power and stature). I enjoyed The Satanic Bible when I first read it and have enjoyed rereading it from that time forward. A 'very' good book, all things considered.

Summary: pretty good, makes you think
Review: buy this book. read this book. then go to your local bookstore and get yourself something from nietzsche, say, 'zarathustra' and 'antichrist'. read them as well. no time? stop watching ricky lake for a few weeks. no losses there. read them? then OPEN YOUR EYES. look at the world and think of the world the way you've never done it before.

church of satan membership and black robes not included, and, frankly, not necessary.

Summary: A Great Philosophical Work minus one star
Review: All the pretenders are blown away, and I do mean all of them, by LaVey's brutal honesty and realistic outlook of life and what people really are. I suspect the people who criticize LaVey subscribe to the religious dogma that places man on a pedestal. Every word he wrote is truth and he had a real gift for getting his ideas across. I gave it a minus one star because of the content on magic. How such a brilliant man could also preach hocus-pocus I'll never know, but my guess is he did it to make a buck and develop a following.

Summary: Not for the feeble-minded
Review: Granted, only a few dozen people in the world can truly understand and pracitce what is set forth here, The Satanic Bible is by far the greatest book ever written. Denounced by the masses who would rather cling to old superstitions, this books has sold consistently well over the past 30 years and for good reason. This is not occult or new age babbling. This is Lex Talionis, the Highest Law. If you are irresponsible, weak, lazy, or just plain stupid, you have good reason to fear this book, for it will be your downfall. But if you are a born ruler, search no further, this is all you need.

Summary: Nietzsche on the rampage
Review: many people crticise LaVey. Its an easy thing to do. This book is rather blatanltly obvious to our time, and LaVey's efforts are half wasted on today's readers, though they were not 30 years ago. But he is still a philosophical genius. This concept of life so outruns all others, because it makes more sense than anything that has ever surfaced before. LaVey is a master of the occult, and what he has managed to do is unify all theories of "black magic" and added a severe Nietzschean twist to it, to such an extent that you could almost say he stole from the 19th century german prophet of the Antichrist. LaVey has a brilliant scope on life. His presence will be missed.
