Summary: A damnably good laugh
Review: I'm often accused of being a Satanist just because I've read this book and like to annoy Christians by the occasional quote from it. As it is I neither believe in God nor Satan but after getting a lifelong earful from the woolly-minded sheep of God I was curious as to what their official opposition had to say.

And it's quite interesting. Christianity gets the predictable (but no less well-deserved) pasting that's long overdue from an author who seems remarkably level-headed and dispenses common sense and reason in amounts that make the real Bible look quite miserly. I love his description of Jesus as "pallid incompetence hanging on a tree" and "thou art not and thou never wert" the saviour of mankind. All true, after all we're still waiting and this after Jesus promised to come back within the lifetime of those present who followed Him.

To all those Christians who say that their faith is beyond empirical proof I say we should put it to the test and conjure up a few demons to inflict some misery on them. Let me know, anyone who's contested me, if something terrible has happened to you because I might have to reconsider my position vis-a-vis this God thing. Also Sons of Adam, do yourselves a favour and read this you might find Satan more worthy of your affection than Jehovah who in the Old Testament has inflicted more misery on mankind for no good reason. Satan by comparison in the Bible has done virtually nothing. Christians are down on him for what he's supposed to do (Revelations) but you wouldn't get a conviction in court for a crime not yet committed now would you ?

Summary: Evidence of a New Satanic Age.
Review: Rather than confusing the reader with meaningless dogma and self-righteous Holier-than-thou exaltations of superiority over the 'sinner', LaVey offers an accurate, down-to-earth and brutally honest perspective on the Nature of mankind's tendencies. LaVey humorously illustrates the lunacy behind mainstream "White" religions, and the self-denial, social and psychological stress caused by the largest manifestation of hypocrisy the world has ever seen: God.

LaVey simplifies the basis of the Satanic Philosophy enough to open the door of free intellectual thought, which in turn allows you to draw your own conclusions based upon your own experiences, using his Philosophy as a guideline. He provokes you to look at life, art, and man from a new perspective, yet warns against embracing his ideas too quickly. Sometimes his satire is hard to distinguish from his teachings, a clever tactic to trick non-intelligent dabblers into destroying themselves.

Dispelling the myths of morality the majority of us were taught at birth, LaVey encourages self-indulgence, rather than bending over backwards to please a God that does not exist. LaVey promotes freedom of sexuality, freedom of opinion, and the right to judge your fellow man, while adhering to the rules of common sense. Some of LaVey's radical ideals include Intolerance of the Ignorant, and Praise of the Intelligent, as "stupidity is the greatest sin". LaVey lays the foundation for a system of respect which ensures everybody gets what they deserve, and a Golden Rule which makes more sense than any other, in this, the modern world.

LaVey brilliantly opens your Mind to your own ideas, essentially opening the Gates of Hell. If you are compatible, and not hopelessly lost in Christianity, The Satanic Bible may change your perspective on the real world, teaching you how and why it functions. Anton Szandor LaVey is a true genius who doesn't get the credit he deserves, due to the media surrounding the occult.

A great read.

Summary: Humanist, not Satanist
Review: This is a good book if you are a humanist! La vey uses Satan as a mean's to lure you into buying his book! If anyone out there had studied true satanism they would know that this guy is a money wanting freak who degrades satanism into a Darwin based religion. Just stop and ask yourself, if he is a satanist how can he then in the same breath, say satan and god do not exist!? He is no better in my book than preacher's that use God's name to make money, when they couldn't belive in it if their lives depended on it! If you want satanism don't listen to this guy!! He is a humanist, naturalist, darwinist, all of the above but not a Satanist! Hail to true Satanism, Hail Lord Satan!!

Summary: A Frank, Witty, Fresh Perspective on Religion & Philosophy
Review: If you ever suspected that "religion is all nonsense", then you will enjoy this book. Religion IS nonsense, says author Anton La Vey; the only 'religion' that makes sense is one in which you show by your lifestyle and habits that you are worthy of being considreed a "god" in the minds of others.

Satanism is not about killing and bloodshed or any of the other silliness depicted in Hollywood movies & TV shows. Satanism is adherence to a few key principles and dealing with life as it IS rather than as some religionist says is should be. Satanism is a lot like Atheism: both stress the importnace of reason, and recognize the dangers posed by stupidity, solipsism, self-deceit, and other faults. In fact, Anton La Vay and Madalyn Murray O'Hair were close associates back in the 1960's and 1970's when they were building their organizations.

Ulnlike the phony religions which speak of "spiritual" and other worldly existence,a Satanist is much more interested in having people enjoy life here and now. Satanism recognizes that there is no value in attempting to convert or elevate people; if they're too stupid to want to be rich and powerful, 'to hell with tehm", says the Satanist. hence, you are unlikely to find any Satanic homeless shelters or poor houses.

You will however, find that Satanists and people who apply the principles of Satanism as expressed in this book are in positions of power and leadership in government, business, entertainment, and many other fields.

One thing that La Vey streses is that Satanism works best when it is well concealed. Satanism can be as good a show as any other religion, but the truly "black" magician will ensure that his most powerful acts are shrouded in secrecy and that he practices adroit misdirection in order to ensure that the less powerful are proberly manipulated.

In addition to being a good example of some clear thinking in matters of philosophy & religion, THE SATANIC BIBLE is also entertaining.

Summary: 'Abandon Hope Ye Who Enter Here'
Review: The opening remarks of The Satanic Bible indicate the author placed a curse on some people who died in a car crash. This provides visible proof of direct intervention by the terrible occult forces on the fate of others. Such intervention is probably most often completely invisible to the human being. For example maybe you were supposed to meet someone but they were murdered before you ever met them. Or maybe someone was supposed to be born but then they weren't. The car crash example serves several purposes. It provides fair warning to the reader of the potential of what they'll be reading about. The author was knowledgeable enough about this subject to realize that such a warning was important. He had an intuitive understanding of the terrible occult forces. I can only imagine what types of powers and knowledge he may have possessed. For those who are so inclined it also indicates something that they themselves might wish to unleash on someone else. However if a person does this they will most likely have to suffer terribly themselves at some point, possibly even hundreds or thousands of years in the past. The Satanic Bible indicates that if you decide to curse someone but then change your mind something worse will happen to you instead. I would venture to say that something worse will happen to you anyway or probably something horrible will happen to someone you care about (for those readers who care about anyone). I think most people have seen movies of people who wear robes with hoods and murder people on alters. Guess what. There really are people (?) like this. On one of those HBO shows about sex this one prostitute was stealing from her customers. They found her with her fingers cut off and all sliced up with knives. As far as this book being a 'bible' I guess it does have some similarities with the Christian bible. The Christian Bible has as its main character someone who claimed to be God in human form and who had supernatural powers and it offers a philosophy for life. The Satanic bible has as its main character someone who almost appeared to be more than human and who also had powers and it too offers a philosophy for life. These philosophies are more or less completely opposite of each other which I guess is to be expected. Bad things happen for a reason. Involvement in the occult provides such a reason. Don't give those creatures a reason to come into your life. But whatever your choice remember neither Satan nor anyone else forced you to get involved with this.

Summary: Basic principles to be a neo-satanist
Review: The Satanic Bible offers an opportunity for the Satanic Pope, Anton LaVey, to speak to neo-satanists. In this text he explains what is really to be a satanist, and how to live in harmony with the world around us. A really interesting and easy to read book.

Summary: This is LOGIC!
Review: I don't want to sound overzealous here, but the Satanic Bible is refreshing. It's based on logic and reason, from a purely atheistic standpoint. Really, the "Satan" LaVey uses is simply a literary metaphor, a symbol, that stands in stark contrast to Christian ideologies. There is nothing remotely religious or spiritual about it. It's simply a glorification of happiness and life, which is, I think, a very noble endeavor. However, I want to hasten to add that anyone out there who's going to pick this book up as a manual for demon-raising is clearly mistaken. This wasn't the author's intent. Overall, a beuatiful, if somewhat simplistic, look at the first philosophy of logic that incorporates art and dark beuaty. A wonderful book that is sure to bring a smile to your face with its humor- read it, if only to dispell any previous misconceptions. Hail Satan! Have a nice day.
