Rating: Summary: Almost Perfect... Review: ...I say "almost" because nothing is perfect, but this book is as close as it gets. Everything that you would want to know about the Craft in an easy to read and well explained format. Clearly the best book she's ever written. It's like a year and a day full of all the information you would need to start out on the path as a solitary. I know that some poeple are saying that she's so commercial and Llewellyn is a joke of a publishing company that simply reprints the same watered-down drivel with different covers and author names, which I can agree with MOST OF THE TIME. Not this time. Great job Silver! Blessed be!
Rating: Summary: A GREAT book by RavenWolf Review: I am a long-time reader of various Witchcraft books. I have read RavenWolf's previous books and enjoyed them though a lot of people refer to her a "fluffy." Her new book "Solitary Witch" is an unbelieveable resource! It is one of the most impressive, researched books I have seen in a long time! HIGHLY reccomended!
Rating: Summary: The best of Silver's series! Review: If you have already learned the basics of wicca, this is the next book to get. This book offers information of everything from circle casting, calling the quarters, and cleansing an area to palmistry, tarot layouts, faeries, tons of rituals and spells, and so much more. Not only does Silver explain what each subject is, but she offers plenty of information on the subject and gives ways to practice the subject practically. It is a huge book anyway, and is loaded with information. If you have read a begginer's book, like Scott Cunningham's or some of Silver's other begginers books, and have been practicing the energy excercises and been truly practicing wicca, then this book is for you. I recomend this book to anyone that is a step above the begginers level. Thank you Silver for yet another great book!
Rating: Summary: Loads Of Inofrmation Review: I just bought this book on Saturday (2/22/03) and I have not yet started reading it. I have to say though that it is packed full of information. From Initiation ceremonies,to blessings and prayers, to Wiccan ethics, and spells, and almost anything that you can think of. The cover of the book seems a little grim but the inside definately makes up for that. I think that on the contents of this book alone anyone interersted int he craft new or old should buy this book. But I have not read it yet, and don't plan on finishing it anytime soon, as it is 0ver 600 pages long. If anyone reads this review and has read the book, Please write a review to tell me how it is. Since i have only read the contents so far, but it seems great.
Rating: Summary: If You've Read One, You've Read Them All... Review: Only this go around it's all on one book!I've had my issues with Silver RavenWolf in the past. One of my biggest complaints was her "Mama Silver" approach. That may be fine for the teenage witch market, but those of us who have been on the path for serveral years find it a bit annoying. In this particular volume, Silver manages to recap everything that she's written in the past few years (errors included) in a type of encyclopedia form. While some of the information is very detailed and well researched, other areas lack such attention. You can see here, yet again, Silver's marketing towards the teen witches in Spells she has included. I would also like to note that several of her spells are not Wiccan in format, they are more based on the Pow-Wow teachings. Personally I am a bit torn on this book. I have definately found useful information in an easy to find format, but I feel this isn't a starter book. If you're a more experienced witch wanting something easy to grab off the shelf when you can't recall exactly what kinds of spells to do during Jupiter's retrograde, this is the book for you. However, if you're just looking to get started this book might not be what you're needing just yet. RavenWolf said it herself in the book's introduction: "How you use this book is entirely up to you. Feel free to skip over the parts that you already know, or read each section in alphabetical order - doesn't matter." ... "On the other hand, if you feel the information is too basic, I beg your indulgence - it isn't my desire to insult your intelligence, I'm simply trying to find a happy medium." I think overall she's done it.
Rating: Summary: Hi, I can turn you into a toad. Review: I'm a teen witch and I love ravenwolf fartingtail because she understands EXACTLY how i feel? In fact her wonderful book has this spell that lets me send elves to protect my locker. I'm a wiccan because I know what fairies are, and what dragons are, and even how to do voodoo, yes even though those have nothing to do with wicca at all! Yes and i got all that information from that book. I'm so glad i found this "turn myself into a wiccan book" because now. One time I didn't have a friends phone number, so I did the 'call me' spell and then 2 months later she really DID call me? I must be the most wonderful powerful witch in the universe. And you know what happened today? I told the teacher that no, the periodic table is wrong and that there is are 5 elements, yup thats RIGHT! Don't forget about spirit! My classmate called me a warlock but she was so dumb because .. there are no such things as warlocks nor devils! I have to go soon now because my coven wants to do a spell I found in this book to help us get 100 on our exams! I just love spending money on $ilvers overpriced 'magick' books that dont even teach how to raise and focus emotional energy. I know that my wicca religion is very ancient and has been passed down thousands of generations orally. 1950 BC!
Rating: Summary: What is wrong with you people Review: what wrong with you people if you read her other books it says New Generation Witches and then say Witches of the ninties and in the descrition of the book in the back of others it says big book for pagan teens
Rating: Summary: Silver Ravenwolf's Encyclopedia Review: In the introduction of this book, Silver Ravenwolf states "How you use this book is entirely up to you. Feel free to skip over the parts that you already know, or read each section in alphabetical order - doesn't matter." ... "On the other hand, if you feel the information is too basic, I beg your indulgence - it isn't my desire to insult your intelligence, I'm simply trying to find a happy medium." She does manage to find that happy medium in this "ultimate" encyclopedia. This is an encyclopedia/dictionary of terms, ideas, celebrations, rituals and Witchcraft in the Tradition of Silver Ravenwolf. She has put together a massive handbook for those who follow her path, and it is just a huge undertaking on her part. The book is put together in five parts, covering 'Shadows of Religion & Mystery', 'Shadows of Objects and Tools', 'Shadows of Expertise & Proficiency', 'Shadows of Magick & Enchantment' and 'Shadows of Magick and Real Life'. Each section covers elements of the craft and discusses them in modern terms. This is Silver Ravenwolf's Tradition and her version of the Craft. "Cakes and Ale" are described as "Communion" and Angels are included in "Spirit Guides". All the material echoes her previous works and is meant for the individual who follows this particular path. Her approach in this huge work is to provide the Solitary Practitioner with reference material to help them along on their spiritual journey. She has gone into great detail, amassing a huge volume of work. The work includes a good table of contents, a bibliography, and is indexed. The followers of Silver Ravenwolf will find this book to be a complete compilation of her work and a good reference for their work as Solitary Witches.
Rating: Summary: if you can only afford one wicca book, get this one Review: I have bought tons of magick/wicca books in the last three years, but this one is still the best one i ever bought. Taught me most about wide range of subjects directly and indirectly used by various wicca/pagan/witchcraft groups, like moon phases, chakras, colors and various others magickal correcpondences. I like Silver's writing style too. She makes magick close and acceptable and not as macabre as some might want us to believe. Excellent book, thumbs up from me.
Rating: Summary: In All Fairness Review: Silver Ravenwolf was the author who introduced me to Wicca. (along with Scott Cunningham of course)
She has a light, witty writting style that lures the reader in and makes you feel as if you and she are sitting across from one another in a student/mentor session. I like this book! Its great for what it is, a Reference work for teens and companion to the 3 part series starting with to ride a silver broomstick.
I'm taking the time to write this due to those who wrote in to bash Silver, saying she failed to state the fact that this work is geared toward teens etc. Well people what do you think "NEW GENERATION" means??? The target audience is clear in the title.
There were many reviews that were biased; People expressing their OPINION of how Wicca SHOULD be practiced and stating Silver is wrong in her views. Well, isn't Wicca a religion that allows one to form ones own views in respect to spirituality? These folks are too fond of Dogma!! Perhapse they should concider going back to the Christian church.
:P~~~ hahaha Take heart folks, this book comes highly recommended. :))
