Summary: Teenage Witch/Wiccan point of view [3.5 stars acatually]
Review: I'm a praticing teenage Witch and Wiccan, and I have to say that this book is pretty informative, though not the best place for spells and such. Yes, Ravenwolf does "dumb" things down, but for super beginners and young teens, I think that it's appropriate to do so as to not confuse them.

This book contains *a lot* of information that you cannot find in most other beginning/teen Wiccan books. It contains info on auras, charkas, runes, explanation of the major and minor tarot, and much more.

Yes, this is *not* the place to go to for spells because there really aren't any, and they take about 10 minutes to complete, with circle casting and all.

If your looking for information on Wicca than I suggest that you either buy this or Scott Cunnigham's "Wicca - A Guide for the Solitary Practioner." Both are pretty good though I would go for "Wicca" before you buy this. Both are good, but, "Solitary Witch" does contain more information, while "Wicca" contains better [and more] spells and chants.

Overall, is it woth your money? I would say yes, if your a beginner and/or a teenager. It contains a lot of information that you cannot find in other beginning or teenage books.

Summary: 1 for the volume of information & 1 cause I'm being kind
Review: She still writes in a condesending attitude that puts out "I know all, follow me." She writes like everyone who reads this book is a child and Christianity is the big bad guy. All teens must have to hide their religion from everyone and must have no idea how to do it. Her history is inaccurate not to mention her most of her historical sources are debunked.

However- the volumes of information inside is great for a quick memory jump but shouldn't be the one and only reference in your library. Many pages of information have multiple meanings or the meanings are still being debated by historians. (hint: think Runes)

Her BOS is insulting to a real witch. She uses multiple gods and goddesses there by not having a true pantheon. Her format is not usually Wiccan and is for quick fixes. Her spells could take 20 minutes at most and the dedication to the divine is not there.
There is no praying in her book or how prayer could help and enrich your life more than some childish spells.

Summary: This book is absolutly fantasic!!
Review: I really can't say enough good words about this book. Silver gives the readers a wide variety of great information. She includes many new spell ideas and spells, invocations (which are great), self initiation ritual ideas, Esbat and Sabbat ritual outlines with "magickal ideas" for each. The section on astrology is absolutely incredible. Silver writes about aspects, transits, etc. This is a great book. It is geared a little more towards a younger audience at times but as an adult reader, I still would recommend this book to any practicing witch, wiccan or pagan whatever their age! :)

Summary: I Love This Book
Review: I'm a practicing teenage wiccan who got her start when given Teen Witch by Silver Ravenwolf. I have to say that 4 years and many books later Teen Witch has finally fallen to second place on my list of great additions to a witch's library, but only because Solitary Witch has taken first. This BOS is absolutely glorious. It's true that it's not the best resource for actual spells, but it's jam packed with other information. I mean, this book has background on EVERYTHING. It's wonderful for info on circle casting and rituals, astrology, auras, herbs, stones, elements, runes, healing, tarot, and so much more. I highly recommend you buy this. It's true that Silver does "dumb things down" but I have to say that I've been frustrated with other books when they didn't. I have never been frustrated by Silver's books. This is a perfect stepping stone if nothing else. Great for beginners. I think it's safe to say that you won't regret this purchase.

Summary: If You've Read One, You've Read Them All...
Review: Only this go around it's all on one book!

I've had my issues with Silver RavenWolf in the past. One of my biggest complaints was her "Mama Silver" approach. That may be fine for the teenage witch market, but those of us who have been on the path for serveral years find it a bit annoying.

In this particular volume, Silver manages to recap everything that she's written in the past few years (errors included) in a type of encyclopedia form.

While some of the information is very detailed and well researched, other areas lack such attention. You can see here, yet again, Silver's marketing towards the teen witches in Spells she has included. I would also like to note that several of her spells are not Wiccan in format, they are more based on the Pow-Wow teachings.

Personally I am a bit torn on this book. I have definately found useful information in an easy to find format, but I feel this isn't a starter book. If you're a more experienced witch wanting something easy to grab off the shelf when you can't recall exactly what kinds of spells to do during Jupiter's retrograde, this is the book for you. However, if you're just looking to get started this book might not be what you're needing just yet.

RavenWolf said it herself in the book's introduction: "How you use this book is entirely up to you. Feel free to skip over the parts that you already know, or read each section in alphabetical order - doesn't matter." ... "On the other hand, if you feel the information is too basic, I beg your indulgence - it isn't my desire to insult your intelligence, I'm simply trying to find a happy medium."

I think overall she's done it.

Summary: Covers It All
Review: There had been no new books by Silver for so long that I began to wonder what she was up to. Now I know. This book must have been a huge undertaking that consumed huge chunks of time and energy. It's not not just a complete BoS for solitaires but an excellent teaching tool beginners. Silver explains every ritual and concept in detail and leaves no questions dangling about basic eclectic Wiccan practice. She delves into more esoteric and intermediate areas. Fat book. Well worth taking the time to read.

Summary: Absolutely the BEST!
Review: This is the first book by Silver RavenWolf that I have read and I must say, it's really, really good. All of the information that's provided in the book is sound and very helpful. It's very easy to understand and read. I'd say this this a must for any serious Wiccan.

Summary: All the Basics There are to Know Pressed Between Two Covers
Review: Silver RavenWolf seems to be either loved or reviled. I think perhaps the reviling is based on jealousy. Silver has produced many books that have helped others get a toehold in Witchcraft with books that are easy to read and practical. Solitary Witch is a huge undertaking. Silver explains difficult concepts, addresses the needs of the Solitaire, and provides detailed rituals and explanations that should be useful to anyone who has an interest in Witchcraft but either has to work alone or prefers to. Get over the fact that Silver has been a successful writer about the religion she loves. That's not a crime, you know. Cover up her name if you must and open your mind long enough to take an objective look at what a wonderful resource she has created. I believe this book will still be being used when all of us are dead and gone. "Hi Ho, Silver!!!"
