Summary: GREAT book, though a little thick for beginners
Review: I don't see how anyone could not see the great value in this book. It isn't the typical fluffy poo that we have to put up with now,...and to spite some of the reviews, I think the title "A Witches' Bible" is a very accurate description. This is Wicca before it became so trendy...in it's unashamed, truthful and beautiful form. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I found the discussion on the Sabbats to be very hard to read, but that may be because I'm a begginner. :) This book is excellent, and a must buy! Check out the other works by the Farrars, too! You won't be disappointed!

Review: Great book as a reference. Lots of great infomation and knowledge that every Witch should have.

Summary: The Problem with a Lack of Knowledge.
Review: There are some people who have reviewed this book and critisized it because it depicts Wicca (or more traditionally Wica) as it was practiced before the deluge of "spell recipe wicca books" came on the market.

I have been involved in Wicca for more than 10 years now and have this to say: This book represents Wicca as it was practiced before Buffy the Vampire Slayer, before Charmed and before the movie the Craft. It represents Wicca as a religion that was not affraid to talk about death, taught that the act of sex is sacred and that being nude before the Gods was the greatest way to confront self-hatred and say "I stand before You and hide nothing." If you believe that Wicca is primarily about casting spells and working magick and you are not ready to confront the Goddess in her dark aspect (the wanning moon - the crone) then don't bother with this book. It's over your head.

Summary: Awful reading
Review: The writing is very dull. I must agree with the other comment that the pictures give you a creepy satanic feel. I have been involved with Wicca for 2 years and this book has a totally different feel from the Wicca I have been introduced too. It left me with a "somethings not right here" feeling. I WOULD NOT recommend this book to anyone -new to the craft or old. The title was grossly picked in error and an insult to other Wiccans.

Summary: This book SUCKS
Review: I HATED this book. It is horrible as an introduction to wicca or witchcraft. This book left me scared. It has funky pictures of naked people from the 70s doing wierd satanic-looking things. This book reminds me of articles about Anton LeVey without the kitsch. I do not recommend this book to anybody, and especially urge people new to the craft to stay away from this book. It freaked me out.

Summary: I was afraid to show my High Priestess when I first got it
Review: I loved it, but there are some problems: there are things in there that shouldn't be printed. It was oathbound (emphasis on the WAS). My HP (High Priestess) wasn't too happy. Also, this isn't a book for Witches; its a book for Wiccans (yes, there is a difference). But I don't want it to sound like this is a bad book or anything, it was really good; I liked it a lot. It gives a lot of great info for people interested in the Craft, and for those who are already invovled.

Summary: A definate MUST for true Wiccans!
Review: This was the first witchcraft book I read and I found it indespensible and still do. Stewart & Janet Farrar cover every inch of the craft in this book and I found it a great starting point for my studies.

Summary: Excellent book for Gardnerians, but....
Review: A Witch's Bible is a great book for all Wiccans to read, as it's content is based on Gerald Gardner, the father of Wicca as we know it. It gives all the info you could ever want on what goes on during initiations, how sabbats are celebrated, etc. One reviewer here had commented on the lack of mention of solitary practice, but that was because witches are not meant to be solitary. On the contrary, witches of old were almost always solitaries, for fear of being caught, and only met in small groups on special occasions. However it is true that WICCANS by definition cannot be solitary. There is a big difference between WITCHES and WICCANS, a difference the Farrar's should realize, and because this book is based on Gardnerian Wicca, it should be entitled A Wiccan's Bible. If you are interested in the Wiccan path, especially as Gerald Gardner taught, read this book. If you are a Witch, or practice other forms of Wicca, you should still read this book. It has a lot to teach, but realize it is written for Gardnerian Wiccans-don't let the title fool you. Take what you want and leave the rest. To learn more about actual Witches, I recommend Raven Grimasi's Hereditary Witchcraft.

Summary: A must have for serious witches
Review: I am a member of the Correllian Tradition and director of the Triad Temple and Mystery School. I have mant books in my library on the Craft and this is one that I carry with me along with my minister's handbook. It is for the serious practitioner and of very great help in talking to others in the want for information. It is not for the light hearted 'maybe I want to know' but for those are really serious about our religion. )O(Blessed Be )O( rev Richard Lunn Triad Temple for Wiccan Clergy
