Summary: Full of tidbits of wisdom
Review: I remember having to read this book as an assignment for a JROTC leadership class; 'The Greatest Salesman In The World' is the first book that I can remember that truly impressed me. Og Mandino has written this classic in a language and style that is easily understood by anyone who opens it's covers. Even though the title contains the word salesman, the book contains profound statements that can be applied to any part of life. If people lived their lives by the messages contained within this gem of a book, life would be so much happier for everyone involved. I highly recommend that all people read this book and add it to their libraries.

Summary: Touching and Life changing
Review: I bought this book about 6 years ago and read it once. A few days ago, I re-read this book and when I read Scrool II, suddenly tears started flowing and I didn't even know why. It touched me so deeply, bringing back memories. On the same day, I went to look up my old files and inside I found the same text of the scroll but in different language. I think it is a sign that I have to start living with the principles Og Mandino has set out in this book, especially scroll II..I will greet this day with love in my heart. It is really a powerful, motivational book that you need to carry with you all the time. If you read it once and not very impressed by it, I suggest that you read it again and again until the messages start to get into you. You'll enjoy this book to the fullest :) Success be with you!

Summary: First Book of Sales
Review: If you are tolerant/smart enough to embrace or get past the Christian references in this book, and you are in the business of Sales, then this book should be on your shelf. No amount of sales training--tactical or strategic, linguistic or psychological--will help you unless you have first acquired the habits, behaviors, and heart of the Greatest Salesman. This is what Hafid teaches us.

I currently have a private library of about 3000 books. Og's little volume is the one I'll rescue should my house ever catch fire.

Summary: New life- new Great-grandson
Review: It's 6:15 am. The phone rings as I am reviewing the ten scrolls of a great little book by OG MANDINO. It's called THE GREATEST SALESMAN IN THE WORLD. The author is a recovering drunk who started getting off track as a WW2 aviator. For those of us who are self educated it is a must read. It might even help those who are university limited. The cumulation of the book is ten powerful Scrolls.

The first Scroll is:

1. Today I begin a new life.

The phone call tells me that I have a new great-grandson, born five minutes ago. The second scroll is:

2. I will greet this day with love in my heart.

In my sixty-nine years I have seen many changes. On many fronts our fellow humans have made progress, My great-grandson could easily live into the next century. Or he could be destroyed by a society that is out of control. One thing that could improve his chances is for you and me to continue our mission of merging the good education forces. So I ask you to ask yourself what more can YOU DO to help those of us who want to see a universal change in the way we develop human thinking.

The third Scroll is:

3. I will persist until I succeed.

Few who know this "aging," "recovering lawyer"will doubt that this scroll describes Burl Waits. I have lived a great life because I was given the gift of persistence. Survival in war, learning to learn after dropping out of school, recovering from my dedication to stopping progress through "unionism," getting involved with community service, and finally focusing on a "life mission" to bring those of you dedicated to better education processes into a "Chaordic" type International public service organization.

Scroll IV-speaks for all of us who have the unique capacity to developing our thinking and feeling "intelligence."

4. I am nature's greatest miracle.

And V tells us how to put our egotistic nature in proper prospective.

5. I will live this day as if it is my last.

The last sentence of this section reads:

And, if it is not, I shall fall to my knees and give thanks. And, for the 69 year old Burl Waits, I will add and I hope some of you will keep merging resources and showing business and education that "our kids are our most important products," so that twenty years from now my new grandson will live in a gentler, kinder world.

The Scroll Marked VI

6. Today I will be master of my emotions.

In the first decade of this new millennium those of us who survive will see many changes. As we break the genetic code, and develop cell like computers that will fit in the human blood stream, we will see a merger of science and technology, we will begin to understand that our greatest gift as humans is the potential to merge thought and feeling. Before the decade is out we will see that even the "old line agrarian trained educators" will understand that "survival requires change" not in the kids, but in the ones standing in front of the room.

And now for my favorite Scroll the one Marked VII

7. I will laugh at the world.

Allow me to quote Og Mandino's first paragraph in this section:

"No living creature can laugh except man. Trees may bleed when they are wounded, and beasts in the field will cry in pain and hunger, yet only I have the gift of laughter and it is mine to use whenever I choose, Henceforth, I will cultivate the habit of laughter."

From Dale Carniege and others we learn that laughter starts with a smile and that a mind either laughing or smiling cannot harbor negative thoughts.

And now Og and Burl challenge you with Scroll VIII

8. Today I will multiply my value a hundredfold.

As YOU help me bring together the education "energy fields" we will be able to rise the hundred to at least a thousandfold.

I have obtained a tax ID number for a new nonprofit corporation for your use. As you might suspect the name is PROCESS LEARNING CENTERS. It will be a "Chaordic" organization where there will be no traditional power structure, and you that choose to utilize our mission will steer the organization, very much like the VISA organization set up by DEE HOCK. For those who think they might want to stay involved please review the concepts at the Chaordic Alliance. We hope to convince the new management that we have a process they should support.

And now for the test of you human capacity to grow

The Scroll Marked IX

9. I will act now. My dreams are worthless, my plans are dust, my goals are impossible. All are of no value unless they are followed by action.

I WILL ACT NOW.

As I review my twelve years of struggle to make a difference in education process reform I find that: I have attended many seminars and training session.( Maybe one hundred) I have attended many meeting called by myself and others (Maybe more than a thousand) I have had many great ideas for what someone else should do (Maybe a million)

So I guess it is time to act-WHAT DO YOU THINK? What else are you willing to do. I want to raise a million dollars and let you direct where it is spent as long as NINETY PERCENT (90%) goes directly to "Support systems for learners"

And now for the most important Scroll of all THE SCROLL MARKED X.

10. From Burl: No, I changed my mind, I'm not going to tell you this greatest of all secrets. If you are interested, buy the book, or go to the library or ask any good salesperson.

And again the Book: THE GREATEST SALESMAN IN THE WORLD

The author: OG MANDINO

Summary: This Book Should Be Rates As, "Book Of The Millennium"
Review: Mandino does a brilliant job of giving dignity and respect to the ancient profession of selling, which has been maligned and misunderstood by all too many people. Mandino's extended parable seems simple and direct, but the story turns out to be deceptively profound, for the author uses several clever plot twists to teach readers the ten key principles that will empower them to become successful in sales and in life.

The book will surprise you...and delight you.

It's short enough to read in an hour or two, but the message will stay with you for a lifetime. The Greatest Salesman in the world is proof that big things come in small packages.

Summary: Speechless
Review: These are the types of books I've been searching for for years.
When I read this book I had to stop once in a while just to cool down my excitment. Man this book is powerful, those words in the scroll should be chiselled in stone. If anyone can recommend any more mind blowing books on wealth, success and prosperity please email me: shoan@webmail.co.za Please only recommend super amazing books that will knock my socks off.

Summary: The greatest trip in the world
Review: The summer after my freshman year in high school, a ton of years ago, I was miserable. I didn't have any new friends at school, I was having a hard time at home, and I was trying to get through everyday with a smile on my face.

I took a trip with a bunch of people I didn't know, a 10 day backpacking trip to an island in lake superior. Our guide was a 75 year-old man named Dave. Everyday, Dave read us a chapter from this book, and everyday my respect for him grew.

The day I got off the island I bought the book and began my ten month journey through the scrolls it contained. I've followed the instructions, reading each chapter for one month, several times. I've worn out several copies and given away several others.

This book profoundly changed my life. Not only am I extraordinarily successful in terms of "material" success, but I am happier than I ever imagined it was possible to be several years ago before I went on that island. Buy this book, follow it's instructions, and even if you are never the richest woman or man on earth, you will be among the happiest.

Summary: How to read this book
Review: I don't know if I misread the instructions or if I'm the only one who actually followed them. If you follow scroll I, it should take you the better part of a year to finish the rest of the book. Following that, I'm only 2/3rds of the way through scroll II (I got the book a couple of months ago, but didn't consistently follow scroll II daily and at the 16-day mark, decided to start again at day 1).

I can definitely say it has changed my life, and even the lives of those around me (most of all a person I work with who is hard to get along with and hence gets along with no one--except, now, me, and it really has seemed to make his attitude at work more positive overall). Though difficult at first, it quickly became easy to apply the first principle, and finally find myself easily "making people your greatest resource" as so many *other* authors suggest you do for success in life, although it is not specifically suggested in this book. I have gotten a half dozen new and better job offers in the couple of months since I started the book, accepted one of the first ones and am currently in the process of exploring the others.

I see all these "couldn't put the book down till I finished" and I think, wow, you went a year with a book in your hand? Personally I'm still in considerable suspense waiting to see what scroll III says, let alone the entire rest of the book!

Summary: Be Your Best Self
Review: All success, happiness, love, peace of mind and wealth are traceble to the 14 ideas, shared in "The Greatest Salesman in the World:"

1. Master the art of living not for yourself alone, but for others as well;

2. Prove to yourself that you can endure the life of a salesman;

3. Believe in the quality of what you are selling;

4. Make your determination to succeed so strong that failure couldn't possibly overtake you;

5. Be fully in the present moment;

6. Choose love as your greatest weapon, no matter what;

7. Persist in what you believe in;

8. Celebrate your uniqueness;

9. Each morning, enthusiastically wake up saying to yourself, "Is this my day to excel?";

10. Master your ability to fully process your emotions, in the present moment;

11. Enjoy at least one deep belly laugh a day with someone else;

12. Multiply your value each day, by 100;

13. Take actions on your dreams, now; and,

14. Instead of wishing or praying for something, ask for guidance to manifest this into your life.

And, having read this book again, 12 years after having first read it, I am pleased to see how I have and have not applied the lessons.

If you've read this book before, or others that have guided you to add value to your life, read this now, to chart a new path on your journey to be your best self.

Summary: The Greatest Motivational Author in the World
Review: Og Mandino's classic tale is not just about sales. It is a living, breathing manuscript about life, written with God's love and a testimony to Mandino's own rag to riches tales.

For those who have not the luxury to meet with a mentor or a life coach, Mandino's series of "Greatest..." will certainly come as a close second.

Start off with Hafid's tale in Salesman, then Salesman II. After which, trail Mandino's curious journey with ragpicker Simon Potter in Miracle, The Return of the Ragpicker and Mystery.

His skills are based on the Autosuggestion technique so results may vary from individual to individual. However, Mandino's engaging style, backed by his personal experiences make his timeless tales delightful to read as stand-alone inspirational fiction.
