Summary: Cunningham is a must for every Wiccan Library!
Review: Scott Cunningham was one of the most creative, prolific, and matter of fact of the Wiccan writers of his time..He wrote authoritatively and to the point. He helped to take the negative stigma out of "Solitary Practice".He left us a wealth of information, a joy of the craft, the wonder of magick,in his legacy of books & encyclopedias when he passed onto Summerland. We thank him for his gifts of knowledge! This book is a must for those seeking the solitary path and for the seasoned witch and beginning Coven member,as well. It is an easy comprehensive read which fully explains the bones of the Wiccan Path, specifically: various "Traditions",the Moon phases(and meanings),Sabbats,Esbats,Ritual and a list of tools. He also gives you the complete "Wiccan Rede","The Law of the Power", and touches upon Ethics and gives you an easy to follow Book Of Shadows outline. PLease read all of Cunningham"s books. They are a must for the "Earth Based Library"! Brightest Blessings!

Summary: A little common sense
Review: Much of this is similar to other books and suggestions for those starting out...as well as a good reference for those of us who want to refresh our memories. Personally, if you already have Living Wicca by this author, you don't need this as well. The two overlap considerably.

Summary: Of interest to the non-practitioner as well
Review: I am not a practitioner of Wicca, but I found WICCA: A GUIDE FOR THE SOLITARY PRACTITIONER interesting. Cunningham offers many ideas for personal rituals and prayers, as well as his own experience with different practices. Cunningham demonstrates that Wicca is not the evil or decadent practice many people think it is (none of the practices described herein have anything to do with human sacrifices, animal sacrifices, or sexual acts). And it is interesting that he only uses the word "Wicca" to describe his religion. He makes a point of that, saying that he avoids the words "Witch" or "Witchcraft" because they have such a negative connotations.

Another thing I found refreshing was his candor on the subject gender. Cunningham discusses how there is, among many Wiccans, an anger toward the fact that the major religions have for millennia portrayed God exclusively as male. Cunningham reasons that this has turned into something of a "backlash" in the Wiccan community, and that "the god" is often over-looked in Wiccan practice as a sort of compensation for the major religion's sole focus on a male deity; in Wicca, often "the goddess" is given exclusive attention. Cunningham also admits that Wicca is, therefore, often more welcoming to women (there are some Wiccan groups that don't accept men as members).

Summary: The one book you must have!!!
Review: If you never read another book about Wicca and witchcraft read this one. This book explains in easy to understand detail what the religion of Wicca is all about. It is a must have for solitary practitioners and nonsolitaries alike. Scott teaches that each person has their own connection to the deities and that everyone has their own power. He is very clear that True Wiccans follow the Wiccan Rede and that "harm none" Is the most important rule to live by. If you are interested in Wicca or Witchcraft this book will get you started in the right direction. Scott includes information on the philosophy and the realities of Wicca. You'll learn about the role of magic, how to perform rituals and more.

Summary: Wonderfull start for the Sole Pagan
Review: Have you wanted to learn the mysteries of paganism? Have you wanted to change your life for the positive but, just did not know how? Are you an experienced practitioner looking for some additional material?

Then I would reccomend this book. It starts you off with a brief history of the craft and then slowly advances you through the many steps of the craft..

If you practice all that he recommends and do further research from his bibliography then you will be on your way to understanding this beautifull but, misunderstood religion.

Summary: Wtichcraft 101--Beginners Guide for Beginners!
Review: In an increasingly secular age, people are seeking an alternative spirituality that works in a new millenium. Scott Cunningham's carefully crafted, simplified text provides just such a spirituality for those with the courage to look beyond any textual "commandment."

Here is an outline, suggestive only, for those seeking a religion for the here and now, not for a reward later after death and then only if one has lived a good life. Cunningham suggests you can live a good life now, and enjoy a better life by doing so, by returning to ancient ways of honoring the earth, nature, and the cyclical rhythms of life as embodied by "god" and "goddess."

Admittedly, it's a stretch, but certainly one worth making for the truly open-minded.

Scott Cunningham does not proslytise nor urge his beliefs, but instead presents an honest, forthright, and open discussion of a "new" old religion, suitable for all, and repugnant to none.

Give it a read, and see if "magick" might be right for you.

Summary: Excellent!
Review: This is a book that I loan to people who want to know what Wicca is all about. It is especially nice for people that are a little fearful about our religion. It concisely gives the basics and origins of Wicca, without any photos of skyclad activities. I also like the simple rituals for when I'm celebrating a sabbat on my own.
