Rating: Summary: One of the three books on my recommended list for beginners. Review: I've loved this book since before it was published. It gives new folks and solitaries all the information they need to get started and/or practice alone. If this were the only book Scott had written, he would have made a contribution we other writers would be hard pressed to match
Rating: Summary: Solitary Practioner, a MUST on pagan/Wiccan bookshelf! Review: Cunningham's Guide to the solitary practicioner is an absolute must. With this book and "The Spiral Dance" by Starhawk any beginning Wicca or pagan can learn the essential basics of practicing non-christian traditional earth based religion.
This book clearly outlines the principles of practice, but leaves specific interpretation up to the reader. This is a must, as in pagan religions there is truly no "right way". The standing stones book of shadows is an excellent guide to creating your own solitary tradition. What is truly impressive about this book is that all of the information can easily be trnsformed into group or coven practice. An excellent supplement text is "Incense,Oils, and Brews", also by Cunningham. It will help spur your creativity with wonderful recipes for all kinds of concoctions from alter oil to magical soaps and powders!
Whether you are an initiate/novice, or third level priestess, this book can offer you insite into the solitary practictioner's world. I can not praise this book highly enough. I have been practicing for many years, and no longer am I solitary. Yet, my dog eared copy of Solitary Practioner is always a welcome sight, comfort, and wealth of basic information.

Merry Part and Merry Meet Again!
Rating: Summary: Great book! Review: This book is great for beginners and those who cannot find others in their area who share their beliefs. He presents his view, but leaves it up to you to decide for yourself how you want to worship
Rating: Summary: The best book on the subject I've yet to find!!! Review: This is a fantastic book for the beginner! It has information on everything from the very nature of magic to the ritual tools to reincarnation. Cunningham's style is very easy. He is aware that many of his readers are likely to be beginners and is careful not to try and force anything on his audience. His book is uplifting and informative! I give it my highest recommendation. It comes complete with charts, recipies, and a Book of Shadows in the back
Rating: Summary: Outstanding guide for the novice and expert alike! Review: Scott Cunninghham's ability to relate the essence of Wicca to the reader is phenomenal. On a subject that can be full of catch phrases and repetitiveness the author manages to keep the reader well informed and interested at the same time. The book is user friendly, containing rituals that are simple and usable. This book is chocked full of useful information for the novice and the expert alike
Rating: Summary: good primer Review: Well written primer on Wicca. I personally like his style in that he does not force a view upon the reader. He tries to lead the reader to discover their own feelings toward the subject. At the same time he covers most of the bases as to what you need to know to start practicing wicca. A very practical guide
Rating: Summary: great book Review: I own this book, and i enjoy it very much it gives many dates for holidays and so on. I can't wait to get more books of this sort
Rating: Summary: An Absolute Classic on Les Mysteries Review: Cunningham's work is an absolute classic in its field, similar to 'Memetic Magic' by Kirk Packwood. I am very glad I bought this one, it has taught me so much about witchcraft. I am a solo practioner of the arts, and this book seemed to be tailor written to my needs. I cannot recommend it highly enough!
Rating: Summary: excelent for begginers Review: I agree that this book is slightly watered down and PC but I also think it is an excellent begginer book. It avoides all the fluffy bunny pitfalls and actually says that this is ONE way of following Wicca but not the only way. It was the best book that I read as a begginer and I would recommend it as the first book to read for anyone. It provides a great basis for other information. It does lean toward the Traditional way but I don't view that as bad because it is good to have a traditional basis before trying out more non-Traditional ways of doing things.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful book! Review: This was the first book I bought on the Craft and it remains one of my favorites. Scott Cunningham writes a lot of useful info for the solitary practitioner. He talks about Wicca & Shamanism in Chapter One and moves on to talk about the Wiccan deities (the Lord and the Lady) in Chapter Two. He tells us about the different forms of magick and how to adapt it in our daily lives and use it successfully. He speaks about the main tools that Wiccans handle and it tells how they are used in modern day Witchcraft. He talks about the 'spiral of rebirth' (reincarnation) and tells us about the Wiccan 'days of power' (the esbats which are full moon rites when you pay homage to the Goddess and it also talks about the eight Wiccan festivals which follows the life cycle of the Horned God). Overall, this book was great and I'm glad how Cunningham focuses on the spiritual part of Wicca instead of the whole spell-casting stuff.--Blessed Be
