Summary: Shallow, but still an ok "first Wicca book"
Review: This is frequently the book that's mentioned when someone asks "how do I become a Wiccan" And while it does have alot of good starting points in it, it really has no lasting effect. Cunningham fails to do either of two things. One, explain the spirituality behind the rituals, and two, provide a complete listing of charts and references. His book "The Truth About Witchcraft Today" is easily the best book for someone who wants to examine the Wiccan faith and decide if it's right for them, or people who just want to know the truth behind it all. However, this book really doesn't make any significant leap over it. And also, he explains the pentacle as representing the element of Earth, when it is actually a symbol for the PLANET Earth, the other meaning was for ceremonial magicians. And he doesn't not use the word Witchcraft simply because he doesn't want to conjure up bad images, and in the glosary defines Witchcraft as a dead pagan religion of Old Europe. Hmmm...strange, since in'Witchcraft Today' he explicitly states that half of modern Witchcraft is folk magic, and the other half is the Wiccan religion. So much for sticking behind your word. It is strage though, since Cunningham's devotion to simplicity is what makes him one of the best, and most fundementalist, Pagan authors that ever lived, and all but two of his other books("Living Wicca" and "Magical Herbalism"), are absolute wonderworks which I fell in love with. Too bad for this one though.

Summary: A valuable resource.
Review: I am a very serious follower of Wicca, however, I'm not very fond of Covens. This book showed me that Covens really aren't necessary. I would reccommend this for anyone intersted in Wicca.

Summary: Brilliant work
Review: I just have to say to anyone who is thinking of purchasing this book, whether they are wiccan or just curious, get this book first.

"Wicca" is a genuine masterpiece from a man who poured his heart and soul into the craft. The writing style is very personal and touching and the layout makes for an easy read altogether.

Summary: Great book for the beginner!
Review: This book is what turned me on to witchcraft. I have friends who practice and I walked into a store and saw this book. I skimmed through it and found it to have a great variety of info. for someone that didn't know much. I bought it right away. This book has practical spells and a great way to get you to get you started. If you already know about Wicca I would recommend this book anyway to see other points of view on practicing it.

Summary: Scott Cunningham rules!
Review: Scott Cunningham does the best work on solitary practices I have ever seen! He stresses a lot on the concept of "doing it yourself" but offers very helpful guidelines. Most other books talk about the way they do it in their own tradition, and you're left confused afterwards when you pick up a different book. But not Scott Cunningham; he keeps it straight and simple. I'd recommend anything and everything by him. Walk always in light and love!
