Rating: Summary: Perfect introductory book! Review: I was given this book, ironically enough, for Christmas when I was fifteen. After reading it, I found that I had learned enough abot Wicca to choose my path. I think this book is aimed at the person who is considering Wicca, but either is not ready for a coven in their mind or does not want to join one. It is also for the practitioner who is disappointed with their coven or thier present solitary workings. Those who know a bit about Wicca may find the first few chapters redundant, but will find that even they learn some specifics. I learned more about Wicca, but wouldn't call it a book for those who aren't considering the Craft to read for reference- the author wrote a book just for that purpose. I especially enjoyed the rituals he included. Cunningham makes it clear to the reader that they are not required to follow the rituals point-by-point to have effects, which is EXACTLY what I was looking for in my religion. I still use it monthly and recommend highly to the said people.
Rating: Summary: Great beginner book!!! Review: Told me exactly what I wanted to know! This book has a great introduction... no jumping right in and expecting the reader to know whats going on...
Rating: Summary: One of the best books of its kind! Review: Cunningham's Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner was the first book I'd ever read on the subject, and it was truly enlightening. It took me through the philosophy and technicalities of Wicca, step by step, at a pace I could handle. It is written magnificently in an easily understandable way, and is extremely accessible. I highly recommend it to the beginning Witch, or even the seasoned one. His tone is almost fatherly, and this could be the next best thing to a one-on-one teacher. My extreme gratitude goes out to Mr Cunningham, wherever he may be.
Rating: Summary: Like an Old Friend Review: Cunningham's Wicca : A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner is the perfect starting point for the beginning student of Wicca who has already read about the historical and intellectual side of Wicca and is ready to move on to the practice of it. The writing is clear and the thoughts genuine. The approach is hands on and the writing is clear enough for the very young and interesting enough for the more mature reader. "Wicca" is the next best thing to having an old friend show you the ropes.
Rating: Summary: It's Great!!! Review: It will help you out on howto atunne with the God and Goddess in your own personal ways... Merry meet, Merry Part, and Merry meet again. Blessed Be!
Rating: Summary: A Primer of Elegant Simplicity. Review: "Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner," is a primer. It is a beginning, and only a beginning. But Cunninham's remarkable book puts the spiritual world of Wicca, or the Craft, or Witchcraft (a word he concientiously avoids using), and of Magick. The only assumption he makes is that the reader is ready to commence a lifelong journey, and here is a roadmap for the first tentative steps. Cunningham explains, where others pronounce. He guides, where others command. He suggests, where others pontificate. And he encourages, where others fall to dogmatic repitition. "Wicca" is a joyous celebration, and an invitation to join in. The writing is clear, witty, and engaging. The illustrations are simple line drawings, but quality art, and unobtrusive. While Cunningham does somewhat gloss over the self-discipline demanded by the Craft, he understands that such knowledge will (hopefully) come later, as the student progresses. WICCA A Guide for the Solitary Practioner is a must for the new and curious.
Rating: Summary: I LOVED this book!!! Review: This book is an excellent guide for anyone interested in "becomming" Wiccan, or for anyone who wants to study a Pagan Religion. This book deflects the negative spin on Paganism in today's world. I just wish Cunningham would write a book on parenting, paticularly lesbian parenting, and raising your children Wiccan. I come from a Jewish background, and this book has compelled me to blend these two religions. I think Cunningham has an excellent writing style, and I was terribly pleased with this book. I would be happy to take any emails to discuss this book with others. GO GET IT!!!
Rating: Summary: GREAT INTRODUCTION Review: Read this Neo-Wiccan classic along with Raven Grimassis "The Wiccan Mysteries". You get one of the the best introductions to the craft available. Cunninghams writing was down to earth. Full of heart and spirit. It captures the essence of WICCA and doesnt restrict you. No preaching, simply a tool to develop your contact with nature, the lord and the lady.....
Rating: Summary: The best biginners book on Wicca I have seen so far. Review: I have read a lot of books on Wicca, and this was the first real influential one I had found. When I first became interested in Wicca in 1983 there were not many "how to" books out there, and the ones that existed were hard to find. After reading Sybil Leek's "The Complete Art of Witchcraft" I had to piece concepts and rituals togeather from what sketchy sources I could find. If I had this book then It would have been so much easier. I bought this book in 1988 and have used it as the backbone of my religious practice ever since. It is deffinitly bare bones, but it encourages you to build up on the information given with other books, and more importantly, your own inspiration. I have never found a book on Wicca that covered everything, and I recomend reading as many books as possible (including the sequel to this book "Living Wicca"),but this is one of the best beginner books out there.
Rating: Summary: This book on Wicca is excellent. Review: Merry Meet! I am a new wiccan and my high priestess has this book. I borrowed it and got so much out of it. It made me feel so good beacuse i got a better insight on Wicca. This book tells you how this religion is practicted and it helps you in answering all of your questions. I was very pleased with this book, I am now thinking about buying it myself! Blessed Be
