Rating: Summary: Very interesting... Review: This book is very engrossing, and certainly challenges common ideas of God and religion. The best part about it is that it forces you to really excercise your mind to follow the concepts presented. On the other hand, a lot of it just didn't jive very well for me. A lot of it is the concious creation theory, which is nothing entirely new of course, but it has elements I just can't swallow (we create *everything* that happens to us without exception...so a small child who's horribly abused is at blame himself because he created it?) ... Also God in this book contradicted himself quite a bit (particularly when it came down to the issue of right and wrong). He tried to wiggle his way around it by explaining why it seemed contradictory, but it didn't work -- it still often came down to a contradiction (perhaps I just have difficulty accepting a God who doesn't even believe in right and wrong Himself) ... One of the biggest things that made me most suspicious that this wasn't just a extremely well-crafted book of the author's own mind was all its attacks on Christianity. Not that the structured religion would be entirely perfect through and through necessarily, but when common atheists and agnostics attack "general religion" and deities, which religion is it they almost always focus on? Christianity, of course. You don't often hear them mention any other of the world's many religions. And so it remains this way in this book as well. For a God of such a large scope he spends a lot of time focusing on one particular religion (although one could argue this is because he knew he was speaking to an American author, and Christianity is the primary American religion ... on the other hand, you would think a book like this would be reprinted all over the world). One amusing thought that occurred to me was, if Christians are so wacked because of the belief in the Devil (who, according to the God in this book, doesn't exist), then what does that say about Satanists?
Rating: Summary: excellent Review: If ten stars were available..... If this book finds you, open yourself to it. That also goes for every other moment on your path.
Rating: Summary: Men Attempt to Define God from Man's Image of the World Review: "I AM (pure) love." "I AM the Alpha and the Omega". "You are made in MY image." "Seek the (ultimate) TRUTH." - If it is difficult for you to understand how these statements can be manifested completely in the theological exposure you've experienced thus far - and - If your own, personal understanding of these prime statements is what you are longing for - Neale Donald Walsch is inviting you to share one man's discovery of self truths once he began listening to God. You may not believe every concept put forth in this dialogue. In fact, you may not believe it is a conversation. But if you open your heart and your mind, God will surely help you discover the Truth for yourself through this book. "Your God is too small" is an understatement. The concepts communicated here are stated simply. The only less than positive critism I have to offer is the play on words revolve solely around the English language as it is spoken in America. I would prefer a much more universal communication on these universal truths. However, this is a small price to pay for the soul searching this book provokes.
Rating: Summary: Walsch books wise and wonderful Review: I have read the CWG trilogy and Friendship With God and enjoyed them immensly. They have become a bible of sorts for me, in that they speak the words which my own heart longs to say. I don't know if God actually said these things, but I'm just so grateful that someone did. What a beautiful gift these books have been in my life.
Rating: Summary: A sad commentary on trendy spirituality. Review: It is so disheartening to see how the message of Christianity has been distorted to actually repel people instead of attract them. Sometimes by well-intentioned, albeit poorly informed Christians; but usually by enemies of Christianity for the purposes of personal gain. Mr. Walsch is not a Christian, nor does he claim to be. However, he attempts to convince his audience that he has written this book through divine inspiration from the same God of the Bible. Please believe me, nothing in this book came from God. God does not contradict Himself. Mr. Walsch is a false prophet. To a person who is spiritually lost, guilt is an overwhelming problem. Such a person will feel a great sense of relief after reading this book because the author purports that everyone is OK, if it feels good, then it is from God. You can go ahead and live your life as you please without guilt or responsibility. Now, please, deep down you know that this can't be true. What's worse, though, is that those feelings of guilt may just be the voice of God speaking to YOU. Forget what Walsch's "god" says to him, he is not The Creator. God doesn't mean for you to feel guilt in order to always feel bad about yourself. He just wants you to feel a sense of urgency when you are headed the wrong way, down the path that will hurt you. "Conversations With God" will only ease your burden temporarily - until you realize that your life is really no different than before. If you are searching for spiritual truth, please don't settle for the easy answers, this is too important. Feel-good philosophy will only drive you further away from God. If you like the philosophy echoed in this book, at least give the other side a chance. In addition to the Bible, a great resource is the "Baker Encyclopedia of Christian Apologetics" by Norman Geisler. This book is really a reference book which is sub-divided into topics of interest. This book will whet your intellectual appetite like nothing before, and cause you to question the shallow, vain philosophies of Mr. Walsch.
Rating: Summary: Easier Said Than Done Review: I , as the author, have been searching for the meaning and truth of life and God for much of my life. I went to church, to synagogue, to mosque, and many other places. I studied books and writings from all beliefs. and culture and history. Like the author, the culmination of this effort and the most valuable result was experience itself, up to and including my own conversations with God. So I read Book 1 with great joy and happiness at the truths which were written there. Readers may assume that this conversation style was a literary technique, but it is not. The communications do, however, reflect the style, substance, and syntax of the person receiving it. Book 1 was a breakthrough publication. Book 2 and Book 3, however, are not of this quality. Whatever is true was already in Book 1; the rest is more of a manifesto. Not that I disagreed with many of the arguments made; just that they were not from the same source as Book 1. Stick with Book 1 and you can't go wrong!
Rating: Summary: Logical, Challenging, & Contemporary Review: The three words I used in my title are actually descriptives for the God that Walsch illustrates in his narratives. Up front, I am a Methodist protestant raised quite traditionally in terms of religion. The dialogue in this book between Walsch and God left me with the impression that what transpired was a real event between a man and our Creator. Yes, there will be many who find this book quite disturbing. Parts read like science fiction and parts read quite the antithesis of what we have come to expect of God in terms of a 6500 year old history book (divinely inspired that it is, however). But is it so hard to imagine that God is so much more than what is in our Bibles? For one of the first "fears" Walsch lays to rest in this book IS indeed fear. And it makes incredible, logical sense to understand that God (who is far more loving than we humans could ever be) would never condemn any of His children to an eternity of hellishness. I mean, if one of your own kids made you angry, would you literally cut them out of your life for the rest of both of your lives even if he wanted to say he is sorry? Anther reader expressed this as well...This book is NOT for someone who is firmly rooted in their religion. Notice I did not say spirituality. This book "strips away" the religious aspects of God and illustrates His spiritual, intelligent, humorous and unconditional loving side. It is a must read for those who are ready to think much more deeply about God than what has been taught through the TV or in front of a pulpit.
Rating: Summary: i pity the innocent going to hell because of these lies... Review: the author of this book is obviously not saved or a true christian at all. it constantly contradicts with the bible, in some cases, says exactly the opposite of what the bible says. page 98 says that heaven is "nowhere", but already here, and that there is no hell. well what was jesus christ sent to earth to save us from then? and why does the bible say that there is? page 192 says jesus is not perfect. the bible says jesus is the only person who is perfect and he was a percect sacrifice for our sins. this author is either extremely ignorant or just a very evil lier. this book is blasphemy to an extreme.
Rating: Summary: Conversations With God Review: I had high hopes for this book, but found it rather disappointing. Its not that I do not subscribe to the teachings in the book, its that I find many of the teachings as they are presented, contradicting them self. Its a hodge podge of many different works put together in a clever but some what careless way. One thing I believe God to be is consistent, this book is not consistent. I wanted desperately for this to be a great spiritual work, but came up disillusioned. In fact I could not even finish it. On the positive side, if it brings people closer to God and helps them to look for there own answers, I rate it a 5 star.
Rating: Summary: This book changed my life Review: Before I read Conversations with God I was a lost and wandering soul. CWD gave me a direction for my life and made me realise I don't have to be a victim of its surprises.CWG gave me the power to do what I want when I want and how to be happy at the same time. Every person I have given this book to has thanked me and told me of the great changes it has brought them. This book is fabulous and I have never read anything like it.
