Rating: Summary: Don't bother caring about anyone else Review: I guess this book is mostly attractive to Christians who have never questioned what they've been taught all their lives, and lived in fear of a wrathful god, and suddenly they're hit with what must seem at first like a bit of fresh air. (I'm not a Christian, although I was raised as one, so I didn't have the positive reaction that so many people have had to this book.) I think my main gripe is the "do whatever you want, other people don't matter" philosophy Walsch espouses. I do not agree with the author that selfishness is the highest good--I feel that compassion is actually the essence of the best of human attributes. Where have I heard this line before...: "The greatest among you shall be the servant of all," or words to that effect.
Rating: Summary: warning....not based on the Bible Review: Only gave it one star b/c you couldn't put 0 star's. I didn't write this. It is from an email I was sent.........Important Message - Warning - Must read!!! For those of you with children and Grandchildren: Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, please pay special attention not only to the what your kids watch on TV and in movie theaters and the music they listen to ... but we must also be alert regarding the books they read. Two particular books, "Conversations with God" and "Conversations with God for Teens," written by Neale Donald Walsch sound harmless enough by their titles alone. These books have been on the New York Times best seller list for a number of weeks. These publications makes truth of the statement "Don't judge a book by its cover/title". The author purports to answer various questions from kids using the "voice of God." However the ANSWERS that he gives are not biblically-based and in fact go against the very infallible Word of God. For instance (and I paraphrase), when a girl asks the question "why am I a lesbian?" his answer is that she was born that way because of genetics just as you were born right-handed, with blue eyes, etc. Then he tells her to go out and "celebrate" her differences. Another girl poses the question "I am living with my boyfriend. My parents say that I should marry him because I am living in sin. Should I marry him?" His reply is "Who are you sinning against? Not me, because you have done nothing wrong." Another question asks about God's forgiveness of sin. His reply - "I do not forgive anyone because there is nothing to forgive. There is no such thing as right or wrong and that is what I have been trying to tell everyone. I do not judge people. People have chosen to judge one another and this is wrong because the rule is 'Judge not lest ye be judged'." And the list goes on. Not only are these books the false doctrine of devils but in some instances even quote (in error) the Word of God. These books (and others like it) are being sold to school children (The Scholastic Book Club) and we need to be aware of what is being fed to our children. Our children are under attack so I pray that you be sober and vigilant about teaching your kids the true Word of God and guarding their exposure to worldly media because our adversary, the devil, "roams about as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour" (1 Peter 5:8). And how many of us know that lions usually hunt for the slowest, weakest and YOUNGEST of its prey.
Rating: Summary: great insight Review: One thing for sure this book will do is be read by millions of people and at least it puts for the right ideas of god being the ALL THAT IS..nonjudging and part of the oneness. It straightens out a lot of the dogmatic fear based bible fanatic preachy stuff out there and puts spirituality on a plane of oneness and love. For that I give this book a lot of credit. It goes in the right direction of pointing out some things beyond common christian understanding in terms of explaining the ego and how it functions which is better then the common "we are sinners and must submit to god or else fry in hell" ideology that doesnt make sense if we're of one loving compassionate god that gives us free will to learn and grow spiritually(would you kill your daughter if she didn't worship you!!). It's funny that the conservative christians are not getting the:beyond morality, beyond right vs. wrong, beyond being a "good" little christian behavior that is preached in churches. They don't seem to understand that one can grow and be a deeply loving person aligned with god simply by discovering ONENESS. They don't get that fear based behavior modification to worship God is a primitive way of finding God. They think that the author is promoting spiritual anarchy without concern for any consequences because he teaches god realization beyond guilt/fear. This book has some very valid explanations of things and some deep understading of what god-realization is. Maybe one problem I may have with it is people doing too much reading of the book and not enough inner discovery and contemplation for them selves. In that respect I feel a great book is The Power of Now. It really gives us an experiential teaching of enlightenment beyond too many wordy explantions. However, I don't mean to discount this very interesting book.
Rating: Summary: Heart-felt Truth Review: In reading some of the reviews for this book, I felt I must write one myself. One review states something about how this book states what we want to believe and how it is false. Well I tell you all this, anything that you want to believe, is most likely the truth. You see, it is not what you want to believe, it is what your soul is telling you is the truth. People who believe that God is this creature up in the clouds taking notes on what is going to happen in our lives, documenting everything we do (as if this is the most important thing God has to do), clearly do not even begin to understand God. People have condemned this booked because in the book, God clearly states that God does not punish. And that offends people. Well, if God did punish, it would be because he became angry with us. Let me ask you this, do perfect beings get angry? Anger is a human trait, and in no way should be applied to a perfect being. Whenever you apply human traits to God, you lose God. Unfortunately, the Christian Fundamentalists who condemn this book have been unfortunately brain-washed by the ever-financial-hungry churches who preach that God is vengeful and hateful, and punishes. Then they say there is satan, well what's the difference?? If God punishes and is vengeful and hateful, why would there be a need for satan? It's so relentlessly sad what some people will believe.
Rating: Summary: The Small Voice Within Review: My favorite part of the Walsch books is when he talks about the small voice within that tells us the way to go. And, that by acting on its wisdom, we can change the course of our lives. This just makes so much sense to me, that I can't imagine it being any other way.
Rating: Summary: Too Far Fetched! Review: Don't tell me, this author must have been raised a Unitarian! This has got to be the biggest load of bunk that's come along yet! You want to know God? Read His word, study with a good study guide like the "Experiencing God" or "Precept Ministries" series which take you verse by verse and let you learn the context of them. Then and only then, can you truly begin to understand God. Yes, there is a heaven and Satan does exist, and this is one author I'm sure I won't be seeing in heaven! Maybe, since God hasn't ever done this before, it's really Satan trying to win souls for himself that "put" all these "answers" in his head!
Rating: Summary: Feel good spirituality Review: Like the title of my review states, this philosophy being preached by Walsch is one of purely feel good spirituality. Do whatever you want, there are no consequences. Don't dare condemn another's choices or your own because that will limit us in our pursuit of self-made ambitions and the sole focus on ourselves and who we want to be in life. Because after all, it is all about us and our happiness. Again, there are no consequences so who cares. Oh yeah, and there's no right or wrong. So go ahead and do whatever feels good. It's all relative. Sarcasm aside, I could not disagree more strongly than I do with Mr. Walsch and his books. I firmly believe that truth is *not* relative, that there is a right and wrong and that a truly loving God has already revealed his heart to us in a little book called the Bible. And in that book there are consequences for our actions as humans. But, I'm guessing that wouldn't fit too well in a purely feel good faith.
Rating: Summary: Be the author of your own life! Review: If you are a strict, to the letter, Christian Fundamentalist, or think you are (no one truly believes every word written in the Bible and expects it to be taken literally) then stay away from this series. They will only make you mad. Neale postulates-- or rather, God does, through Neale-- that we are all God, individuated. That is, there is only God, it's all God, everything is God, ergo, we are God. That alone has raised an outcry, as did Charles Fillmore, when he said the same thing over a hundred years ago. Yet, did Jesus not say, "Have I not told ye, ye are Gods?" And did He not say, "Greater things than these shall ye do?" "The Kingdom of God is at hand." and much, much more that we ignore, while celebrating not the LIFE, but the DEATH of Jesus Christ. Neale does not write, or suggest, that we can do whatever we like without fear of retribution, but rather that we all know what is for the greater good of all, we need only look within ourselves to find the Truth. The person above who said we can do anything we want without fear of retribution (or words to that effect) didn't read very carefully. Far from preaching anarchy, he suggests that we (gasp!) live our love for one another and he also wrote of the Law of Cause and Effect, called Karma by some. What he did say was that our just and loving God won't send His children to burn in a fiery hell for all eternity. Tell the truth. Haven't you always found that pretty hard to believe? Can you really even get your mind around the concept of eternity? Naysayers are right about one thing: Neale says many things I, for one, want to hear.
Rating: Summary: Just read it Review: After reading all three books and Friendship with God, I can say that I feel that these books are 100% truth. I've never felt this way about a book before. Please read all three books before judging them (it isn't just feel-good spirituality, in book 2 God talks about how we're wreaking havoc on the earth and the environment and how our political systems aren't working). If you're skeptical you don't have to buy them you can borrow them from a library first. If everyone read these books the world would be a much better place.
Rating: Summary: Conversation with God: An Uncommon Dialogue (Book 1) Review: This book has the potential to change your life. If not at the very least it will affect how you think. Conversations with God, gives us a chance to have a one on one with God. It takes away all the mystery that we were brought up with and makes God a "real" being. It allows us to understand the greatest gifts that we have been given and the power that we truly possess through choice. If you are seeking......start reading and you will find!!!!!!Inner peace is only a book away. Enjoy
