Summary: The Course
Review: Simply the most important literary work of our time. The depths of psychology, metaphysics, Quantuum physics, spiritual truth, psychology and simplicity.

The course is exactly what the above reviews say, it is transformative and will change your life if you allow free will to do that. In my opinion the beginning states the complete truth.

"This is a Course in miracles...it is a required course." This is true, no matter what pathway you take for your awakening, you are actually going in some roundabout way to the course.

As an Archeological Theology major, I can tell you, this is the most accurate rendition of what all religions were "Trying" to say before thousands of years of dogma.

Get it now. While your at it, get Robert Perry's book: "Path of light" which is the greatest roadmap of the course. You will NOT be unhappy you did. The best money you will EVER spend.

Summary: Try it !!
Review: I ran across A Course in Miracles by in a small bookshop in the Lake District of England in 1992, and on a whim I bought it.

The first pages put me off mainly because the word "miracle" has been so overused it's lost it's currency for me. The Christian terminology also put me off because of the legacy of suffering and misery the Christian religion has caused humanity. However, I stuck with it and found the message good and simple. The voice speaking through the pages is one that rings true for me.

I won't claim to have practiced everything the Course teaches and maybe that's why I won't wax lyrical about the book. My whole life hasn't changed, and I don't feel better/more fulfilled than anyone who hasn't read it, still I'm glad I bought it and glad I've read it, it's helped me, and I hope if you decide to read it it helps you too.

That's it !
Thanks !

Summary: eloquently expresses what is beyond words
Review: There are many positive thoughts in the reviews about this book and many of the anticipated negative ones. They are all valid points of view if they are statements of what the person really thinks, from the truth of that perosn's own experience, but they are not all correct. As with anything in the world of relativity, it's up to you to interpret what you perceive. Almost anything can be misconstrued and used to do harm. This book is easily misunderstood, like the Bible, the teachings of Christ himself, and the teachings of many, many others. Many people place too much emphasis on the messenger instead of the message itself. The message of this book is filtered through some of the language of psychology and focuses on the destructiveness of the ego, and more importantly, how to heal that destructiveness through forgiveness. For those who get it - great. For those who don't, it's not a part of your path, and that's o.k. It doesn't matter. One way or another, we all come to "God"; it doesn't matter how we get to her/him/it. We cannot not be a part of God. With that said, you have to approach this book with an open mind in order to understand it. You have to be willing to think in ways that might challenge you. If you do, you might find that it changes your whole perspective on life.

Summary: Commentary on the statement "To heal is to make happy"
Review: Due to the revolutionary nature of the theory set forth in A COURSE IN MIRACLES, it is easy to misunderstand such statements as "To heal is to make happy." From the perspective of all other paths, this statement may seem simplistic, even a bit shallow. But when we look at it from the perspective of the Course, it has much deeper implications.

A COURSE IN MIRACLES defines a "miracle" not as a mythological occurrence in the physical world, such as the parting of a sea, the birth of a son to a virgin, etc. A miracle is defined in the Course as a shift in perspective from a fear-based perception to a love-based perception. So, the miracle is all within the mind; it has nothing to do with externals of the physical world, including one's own body. And, as one of the "principles of miracles" (the opening section of the book) makes clear, miracles may not always have observable effects; just because I decide to view the annoying behavior of a friend as a call for love, does not mean he/she will discontinue that annoying behavior.

When we take all of this into account, we realize that when the Course says "to heal is to make happy" it actually is making a very deep philosophical statement. It is saying that happiness is only within the mind and does not depend on the physical world around us; one has healed when one has made the shift - within one's own mind - from a fear-based perception to a love-based perception. One can be infected with AIDS or cancer and have chosen the "miracle," and still suffer from the physical disease of AIDS or cancer. But one has chosen the miracle, has realized that one's ultimate identity is not the body, does not interpret the physical disease from which they suffer as a symbol of fear or sin, and therefore is happy and has healed. In short, "To heal is to make happy" means that true healing is the result of choosing to identify with the love in one's own mind.

Summary: Transformative & challenging
Review: I was introduced to this book 22 years ago while struggling with a life-threatening illness and facing my mortality for the first time. I attempted to read the "text" first and found it quite difficult to comprehend. So I did the meditations for an entire year. The effect was transforming. Despite spending nine years in a Jesuit seminary, I felt I has discovered the true meaning of Jesus' words for the first time. The message of the Course in Miracles is quite simple and extraodinarily challenging -- to judge no one, accept everyone, abandon fear, give without reservation and trust that all we need to have and to understand will be provided when we need it. Each subsequent reading of the Text reveals deeper levels of meaning and greater challenge to our ways of thinking and acting. If a person thought and behaved as the Course suggests, he or she would truly become a saint.

This is not a book for those looking for a quick & painless fix or "feel good" spirituality. The Course is just as demanding as Zen Buddhism, but delivered within the context of the Christian tradition. However, one need not be Christian to find value in its message. If people persist in the performing the meditations and slowly contemplating the text, their experience of life will imperceptibly and dramatically change.

For a more accessible introduction to the same ideas, read Inner Christianity by Richard Smoley. The Course provides a methodology to experience the transformation that Smoley describes.

Summary: Brings Peaces and Love To Your Life
Review: Be prepared, it takes a long time and a lot of work on your part to read and benefit from this book. It took me 3 years to read. I read a bit each day.

The first half was very difficult to understand. I set up a personal "dictionary" on the first pages of the book, writing down its terms and what they meant. Then when they were talked about in the book, I could go to my "dictionary" and refresh myself on what they meant. That helped a lot!

I had an extraodinary experience that lasted just a moment while reading the book. The experience let me have a glimpse of what we are all about and gave me a sample of the love and acceptance we be could feeling for each other if we work to get to that point. I also had many wonderful things happen to me when I learned HOW to ask for good things to happen.

I have so much confidence in each day after reading the book, I understand the purpose of our lives. I appreciate everyone's contribution on earth, from the store clerk to the high level scientist. I read several other books while reading this one. That really helps to get more out of the "Course". The other books were "Seat of the Soul" by Gary Zukav, and books by Caroline Myss.

Summary: Words of wisdom from a seeker
Review: I only have two words for this book. Confusing and circular. I could not get through the first one-third of the book due to its wordiness and confusing approach. I picked it up more than once thinking it was just me, but I don't think so. In the end it is a great bedside table book for insomnia. If you are seeking answers to the riddle of life or on the path for true meaning keep going.

Summary: Not the same Jesus from the Bible
Review: A Coures In Miracles was "channeled" to Helen and the Bible is clear about what it says about mediums. The Course re-writes Christian doctrine. Lots of it is non-sensical like "there is no justification for the unjustifiable." If you read any of it, you will see nothing but contradicitons within its own text. If sin is just an illusion, why does it say "Sin proves that the Son of God was evil?" And, if one does not need to forgive anything that God created, why does it require one to forgive a brother? Purchase the "real" Word of God called the Holy Bible and don't waste your time on this false text.

Summary: Actually about 3.5 Stars...
Review: I have done work with ACIM on and off for years... and can understand the lady's comments about "emotional suicide". The Course does not address the human condition as well as it does the spiritual.

Having said that, ACIM also changed my life at a time when I needed the help. It took me out of victim mode. It showed me that maybe there was another way to look at things... and perhaps it was my "perception" rather than what was really going on at the time.

So, I did and do find the Course to hold a lot of Wisdom, but as with any text, it's not the "end all/be all". I suggest it in conjunction with other self-help books that can, perhaps, give a better picture of life as an emotional being.

Thumbs up, and I'll always recommend this book.
