Rating: Summary: a.c.i.m Review: I am currently reading this book and am finding it to be very beneficial. I am dubious about things which talk about channelled messages etc but regardless of that the book is very helpful, to my mind at least, in making the reader feel more calm, forgiving and peaceful. This is not done by 'DO NOT..' commandments, but by picking up on aspects of conditioned thinking and making one re-evaluate them.
I would recommend people to look at it with an open mind. But until this book (if ever) is proved to be a fake, always choose it above anything by OSHO/RAJNEESH, the man who showed his contempt for material possesions by having a fleet of Rolls-Royces. Never mind the poisoning scandal and the fraud charges.
And if I'm proved wrong about the authors of A.C.I.M. I'll hold my hands up.
Rating: Summary: A COURSE IN MILLIONS Review: Useless and cowardly quiltpatch of self-help cliches that made someone millions. Awful.
Rating: Summary: inflated bumpf Review: Having studied philosophy over 20 years,
I can tell the genuine article. This is
not it. The cod-Biblical style disguises
a free-flowing mish-mash of poorly connected
and unconvincing ideas. If you have a
trained mind, you will struggle to make
sense out of this. Perhaps its most valuable
contribution may be to stimulate you to
think for yourself. It seems that some people
have managed to use it to improve their lives,
but as a spiritual or philosophical guide it
seems to me to be heavyweight only in size, not
in depth.
If you are on a spiritual quest, I would really
look at some of the classics like Patanjali or
some of the discourses of Osho. There are better
things to read than this.
Rating: Summary: The Book That Changes Lives Review: When I first got this book, it was sitting on the shelf for about five years before I was in the right state of mind to begin working with it. When I did finally get to working with it, I was faced with a problem out of which I had no clue how to get out, so I gave my best shot to this book. I was totally, wholeheartedly committed to working with it and the results paid off beyond my wildest dreams. I have read many helpful book in my lifetime, but none has such a profound and lasting effect as this one.
Working with A Course in Miracles never ends, but the most dramatic changes I have experienced were during that first year, when my perception and experience of the world turned on its head and the world, my relationship to it, my experience of the world, has permanently changed.
It's been 11 years since that time, but A Course in Miracles is still alive and well in my mind.
There are people who have picked this book, invested half-hearted attempt in working with it and who got seemingly nothing out of it. Unless you're willing to invest yourself wholeheartedly in working with A Course in Miracles, it's unlikely you'll experience the promises of the book.
Sometimes people join groups and go on asking others for advice as to how they should work with this book. All the instructions are in this book. There is no one on the outside who will help you to get through the Course. This is an inner journey and to travel it successfully, you have to be willing to travel deep within - not with parts of you holding onto the outer world. Only when you are completely willing to drop the outside, will you make it to the other side, in this inner journey. The treasures are hidden deep within. Dive in and discover the wonders that are hidden within you.
Rating: Summary: A revolutionary look at "Holy Relationships" Review: This book has deeply influenced many more of today's highly-touted spirtual authors than those who acknowledge it as a source of inspiration. Still, most Course students do not address one of the Course's basic tenets: that God has chosen the "holy relationship" as His means for our awakening, and that we will have to learn to use both our bodies and relationships differently for this Plan to be fulfilled. As the Course says, "we can either have freedom of the body, or freedom of the mind, but not both." And, "all our problems stem from a sense of lack that we project onto each other, creating defensiveness and strengthening the Voice for Separation (ego)."
I believe this information is a reference to relearning sacred sex techniques that prevent a post-passion sense of lack. Neuroscience is now beginning to reveal the precise changes in the brain that follow passion, and linger for days, leaving lovers more prone to emotional separation. No wonder we have love and fear confused, as the Course insists. Fortunately, there is a way around the problem, which also leads to "true pleasure" and stronger relationships--just as the Course promises.
I hope that someday Course readers will tap this book's full potential, rather than focusing solely on a handful of its many gifts.
