Rating: Summary: A life changing scripture Review: A Course in Miracles has spoken to my heart deeply for the last 6 years. Its message is so practical and needed. Coming from a Presbyterian background with doctrines of predestination and election, A Course in Miracles gave me the gift of freedom: freedom in my thinking and in my relationships with others. Applying the principles in the text and workbook have changed my whole way of thinking about life. Life now is not such a struggle. Each day is a gift in which miracles "occur naturally as expressions of Love." Buy this book and USE IT! Your life will change.
Rating: Summary: A most wonderfully amazing book! I'd give it an 11. Review: You've got to be ready for it, but this book is an 11 on a scale of 1 to 10. It is a work of deep spiritual inspiration and meaning and it is a long awaited answer to many questions Christians and non-christians alike have been looking for. It will change your perception and belief in God and the Holy Spirit in a very positive and growing way. Wow. Truly inspired.
Rating: Summary: Spirituality For the Non-Religious Thinking Person Review: This book is not for everyone; it is "A" Course, not "The" Course. It seems like a good path for someone who enjoys somewhat obscure abstract ideas and then applying them through a semi-mystical/meditative, yet Christian-framed approach. (If you are somewhat anti-Christian, don't be put off: I was at first but eventually was able to appreciate this book's completely different approach from traditional Christian religions at least as they are practiced in my limited corner of the world. However, a warning: the book uses male terminology exclusively--e.g., we are "the Son" of God rather than even "the Child" of God, but I got past this by recognizing it is a language issue not a spiritual one.) It is both theoretical and practical, a book I mine for insights nearly every day if not as constantly as I would like. When I do apply the ideas consistently I experience joy and well-being and discover new viewpoints about my life issues that help me re-frame things in ways that help me discover my own happiness and inner peace. For example, the Course has taught me to recognize more often when I project my own mistakes (not sins or even flaws) on others and to notice that when other people are behaving obnoxiously they are usually terrified of something which helps me take a more compassionate as opposed to defensive stance. It also reminds me how temporary everything is here so I don't get too caught up in anxieties and materialism.
Rating: Summary: Comes down on illusions with the force of a sledgehammer Review: A Course in Miracles is at once one of the most powerful books ever written in the history of mankind. It is authoritative, sacred, plays no favorites, spares no feelings, and comes down on illusions with the force of a sledgehammer. It ranks right beside the Holy Bible, The Koran, or any spiritual text. If you are not poised to recognize your spiritual perfection, if you would rather dwell in defensiveness and illusions, if you prefer to live a lie as opposed to living with the discomfort of disruptive truth, bypass this book. The Course is a system of ideas designed to teach us that we are more, infinitely more than a mere body. It is our identification with the body that has blocked our awareness of our spiritual perfection. I can't say enough about ACIM so I'll end on this note found in the workbook for students. It teaches that "Sickness is a defense for truth." When you understand this message, then you will know the power of your true Self.
Rating: Summary: The most important book ever published. Review: I have been a student of the Course for the past 10 years and my life has been completely transformed through these teachings. I have become convinced that the material contained in the Course is the most advanced information ever to have been made available to the human race. As a full-time Episcopal priest, my bias is naturally towards Jesus and that bias leads me to acceptance of the obvious (to me) inference that these teachings could only have come from him, as the Course in fact states. However, as Jesus himself says in the Course, it is not necessary to believe in him at all for the teachings to be effective. The only reason Jesus needs to be their source is that the Christianity that has emerged in his name and which has been the religious focus of Western culture for the past 2,000, is rapidly becoming disfunctional. This is readily demonstrated by the appalling extent of Fundamentalist belief in the U.S. The Course comes to us from Jesus because in our perception, only he could have the authority to transmute Christianity into a belief system that will survive the new millenium. A warning to anyone who works with this material is perhaps in order, however: as a friend of mine in Holland (who is currently working on the Dutch translation -- one of 20 translations of the Course that have either been completed or are in progress at this time) puts it: "If you're going to work with the Course teachings, you'd better be prepared to hang on to your hat!"
Rating: Summary: Inside this book you will find the truth Review: This book has led me to the (KNOWING) of who and what we really are. The course came to me through a friend. When i read the 1st few pages I knew it was for me. As i read i began to realize that things were happening to me in my everyday life, and then i would read about them the next day. I made an agreement with spirit that i would do my part if it would. I knew nothing of spirituality going into this book. Playboy was probably the closest i had been. LOL There came a time in the book that said, now that you know who we are and I did not know so i stopped. The agreement seemed to be broken by the Holy Spirit and i was not going to read another page until I was shown. I kicked and screamed for about 3 days and suddenly at break at work it happened. Words can do this experience no justifacation, but i will try.I found myself looking out onto my coworkers and the 1st thing i said was ,(o' my God how did we forget this, it cannot be possible) It was different than anything i could have imagined on my own. I thought it would be religios feeling, but it was not. It was totally cosmic. I found myself formless and seemingly invisible, My being seemed to spread out all over the plant. I looked at one of the guys i work with and noticed i loved him deeply, very deeply with a love i had never felt before. i looked closer and said My God i am him. I was made of a power that would make an atom bomb look like a matchhead, and a love that supercedes human imagination. I was, I am We are the christ in truth. i was both male and female, i was the all that that people speak of. We have forgotten more than you can imagine my friends, Live this book page for page. if you come to a point that you do not understand, do not analyze it for you will fail in your analagy, just go on past it and keep living it. When you come to a point that feels good ,put the book down and live through the feelings then pick it back up. This is not just for me, it is remembrance of the beginning of us all and the kn1
Rating: Summary: A Life Time Study Review: I have been with "the Course" now for almost 10yrs and It continues to be my companion. The profound yet simple lessons provided in the workbook have really helped to bring my life to an order
that, without such insight received from the Lessons, would not have been possible otherwise.
This 'book' is deep and demands seriousness from the student...one's intent and approach to reading is what differs, to go beyond the idea, it is essential to get some background to CIM. I suggest any book or tape from Tara Singh, this contact can open up a whole new world and help directly to bridge the gap between one's 'conditioned-brain' and the Thoughts inhereit in CIM.
As Helen Schucman, the "scribe" of CIM once said;
"the course is to be lived"..... it is profound ..but it sure is not easy. This is perhaps the most important book ever written in the New-World, for once you make contact with 'It'..you will have a companion for Life.
Rating: Summary: The most incredible book I've ever read - seriously Review: Concepts which this book is an aid to understanding cannot be explained, here or anywhere. To attempt so is pointless. They can only be experienced. This book is really a workshop to help us make our own discovery of spiritual concepts so beautiful and profound that they simply cannot be taught or expressed in the dualistic ("good" vs. "bad") manner in which we think & communicate. I have so much to say about the Course I could write ten pages here. Instead, let me just say that I have not yet found a single concept in the Course which, after having understood its meaning, did not bring forth in my soul an immediate feeling of perfect truth & sense of the beautifully ironic nature of God's Law. Other books I've read always contain at least a few sections which, when read and understood, bring forth a feeling in my soul of having missed the mark. I qualify this however by noting that there are VAST sections of the Course which remain beyond my comprehension & as well VAST sections which while understood intellectually are not known to me in the only meaningful way possible: knowledge gained through repeated application!
Rating: Summary: This book will change your life, when you are ready! Review: Although focused on christianity this book offers an interpretation of any religion's true meaning: unconditional love. This book offers a "new" look at traditional religions without the controlling factor: Fear. If you are looking for answers you will find it in this book. It is a must read!!
Rating: Summary: Recommended reading for the restless Review: For those who are restless with traditional ideas of God, or for those who have a case of the '90's uneasiness, I recommend three books: A Course In Miracles, Conversations With God, and Eckankar: Ancient Wisdom For Today. These three books, written at different times, by authors whose experiences and lives are drastically different from each other, all fit seamlessly, and support each other, lending credibility and most importantly, providing comfort, reassurance, and point the way to a God of Divine Love
