Rating: Summary: A simple powerful easy to read book Review: The Alchemist is a simply told yet powerful story of how we can transform our lives just by following our dreams as far as they can take us. This book reminded me of several other simple yet powerful books that I have read - Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach, Le Petite Prince by Antoine De Saint Exupery & Candide by Voltaire. An author doesn't have to use complicated, "grown-up" language to tell a good story. This book lived up to the hype it has gotten for the past 10+ years.
Rating: Summary: Inspired by ancient oriental tales Review: I read the book of The Alchemist, the story is interesting and inspiring, but sadly, the end is the same of an ancient arab story that I read when I was in elementary school, an arabian fable called "The story of two men who dreamed", a fable of Arabian Nights. Also, the argentine author Jorge Luis Borges wrote a tale based in that story. I expected for a different and original end of an interesting and a best seller book. I think that the author should give some credit to the surce of his tales.
Rating: Summary: Follow your dream. Review: Anyone who would give a negative review to this book is either nuts or just doesn't get it. The title says it all, this is a fable. The author tells of a quest by Santiago, an Andalusian shepherd boy, to find his treasure and the difficulties encountered. There are some who will find inspiration here and others who will find reassurance. Aren't we all, during our stay here, following our personal dreams. And if we aren't then shouldn't we get on with it before it's too late. I say go for it and don't concern yourselves with those who can't understand.
Rating: Summary: What dreams are made of. Review: Anyone who would give a negative review to this literary treasure has to be nuts or just doesn't get it. It is a fable, the title says it all. There are readers who will find inspiration within these pages and still others who will find reassurance for their personal quest. The author tells the story of Santiago, an Andalusian shepherd boy who goes on a quest to find his treasure and describes the difficulties he encounters. Aren't all of us, during our time here, pursuing our personal dream. If we aren't then this book may provide the impetus to begin the adventure. Go for it.
Rating: Summary: So-So Review: This is an OK book - but it's really nothing special. A young boy who's a shephard travels from Andalusia (southern Spain), to Tangier, Morocco, (where he is robbed), to the Sahara Desert, to the Egyptian pyramids. Interesting I guess, kinda quirky.
Rating: Summary: Amazing... Review: I picked this book on the suggestion of a friend. The suspense and the tempo of the book made it impossible to stop reading until I'd finished it.I'd suggest this to anyone that can spend an afternoon at a coffee shop or by the beach!
Rating: Summary: Amazing!! Review: This is the most amazing book ever. This story leads the reader on a journey of self discovery through the protagonist who goes through various obstacles and still comes out to find true happiness. This book is not simply a fable about following your dream, its a true mantra that teaches one how to truly see your life and how to live it. After reading this book I guarantee you'll have a different worldview on life, love everything! It has utterly changed mine forever. Actually, after having wrote this review, I think I'm gonna go re-read it again.
Rating: Summary: Might not be for you. Review: I enjoyed this book, but not as much as I was told I would. I think it offers up sugar-coated life philosphies. These palatable, romantic ideas are great if you've never read a book containing such notions or are beginning (today) a quest to question your life. If you have started already you are in for a simple story that can't guarantee any new insight and may actually frustrate you. I give it 2 stars because for someone starting their "examined life" it will give them some momentum.
Rating: Summary: It`s not simple but PRIMITIVE!!!! Review: This book deserves nothing but mockery. It has almost become a fashion (starting with Hemingway) to relate a story with command of 500 words,or so. It won`t take long and these authors will take to writing primitive novels using their mobile phones. How can one read something that is below his or her ability? Good heavens, get a book that is rich in both language and thought so that you can profit from it, at least intellectually. But enough of my criticizing of his defect in language skills, and let`s proceed to the story in question. Is this supposed to be a new way of philosophical aprroach to readers? If so, this man is a laughing stock. This hackeyed plot is not worthy reading one page, let alone the whole of it. Not for demanding readers. To sum up, this wholeheartedly praised simpleton, apparently having graduated from a primary school, is a lame ancestor of civilized culture. If you, by chance, insist on claiming this book to be simple, thus, simple authors for simple readers.
