Summary: Greatest story I have ever read
Review: This is one of the greatest story I have read. Though I have not read the original literature but I feel that something is lost in translation. Still I say it's a great book. It's like philosophy wrapped over a fairy tale. The story is simple and not very excitiing (!!!) BUT the philosophy is terrific. It can change the life of it's readers.

Summary: A Thought-Provoking Fable
Review: This is a good book that I have recommended to friends and family, all of whom have enjoyed it. I wonder, however, about the immense global popularity of this book and think that perhaps the readers use the book as an escape from a diappointing life. Everyone likes to cliam that this little book changed their lives forever, but I believe that this is more a commentary about the readers' shortcomings than about the text's success. EIther way, definitely worth a read.

Summary: More than just dreams....
Review: After read the Alcymist, I was totally stunned. The alcymist is not just a book about a shepard and his dream for a better life, true love and following his dreams. The strong aspect of religous faith and overhuman power centered in a God, gives this book such a contemerary view upon all religion. Because this book crosses religous and culturel borders, and unites them in an empiric and homest way, it gives the signal that true faith is not a political issue or issue of debate. Yhe faith you put in yourself and in "a" God is based on the good principles of man...: to love, to help, to be good, to share and to make your own way. The shepard Santiago is a true picture of a virtous man. A man who strongly belives in his dream, but not in an american way, the dream turns out to be what you were in the first place. The dream is the travel and the travel is the meaning of Santiago's life. And finally;- the travel is the life with Fatima. hpl

Summary: A life-changing book!
Review: I must first comment that I'm in utter disbelief that there is anyone out there who did not think this book was a worthwhile read!!! Coelho's book has changed the way I look at life. I keep on-hand, at any given moment, some of my favorite quotes in case I need a quick reference. Coelho presents a story so inspirational that by the time you finish, you want to believe it's a true story. In any case, it will help you see the value in following your heart, and that every moment in your life, no matter how insignificant, is important.

Summary: Inspiration, Motivation, Relevations...Sensation!
Review: A beautiful book. Laced with morals and proverbs, _The Alchemist_ is a book essential for anyone who believes in following their dream. Until I read it, I had never read a book that could be applied to everyday life, and was very entertaining at the same time. The poetic images, such as the kiss blown on the wind and the oasis on the desert, are so beautiful and peaceful that they lend to the tranquillity of the novel. As I studied this novel in a classroom setting, I have seen the impact it had on the other students. Those who read the novel were impressed, and it was amazing to see the different effects on different students. We had many wonderful debates about fate, destiny, and omens. I recently visited several students from the same class, and even now, we are discussing omens and destiny, something we would never have done before reading this novel. I would definitely recommend this inspirational novel to anyone, especially someone who believes in destiny and omens, or who believes that our dreams are meant to be followed. After reading this novel, I tend to reflect more on "omens" in my life, and wonder if they might lead me to my "ultimate treasure", just as the boy was lead to his ultimate treasure in this novel. I have followed my heart, and it has been enormously rewarding in my life, as it has taken me to a new country where I have met many new people from around the world. I suggest you read this book, and take what it says to heart. Who knows, maybe your ultimate treasure is waiting for you.

Review: This book will be a landmark for the years to come. I saw, in this page, some agressive comments from some jealous Brazilian frustated intelectual, , but with no concrete review about the book. Please, don't pay attention to these people, always trying to put our beloved author down. Paulo Coelho became a icon in Brazil. The Alchemist is a worldwide success, and we are proud that he is showing, in "The Alchemist", the magical vision of our country.
