Rating: Summary: the story is present in several cultures Review: like the Jewish fable about a treasure hidden under a bridge, Jorge Luis Borges Tale of the two dreamers, Arabian Nights, etc. Paulo Coelho retold it brillantly
Rating: Summary: This story is stolen from a 13th century Turkish Philosopher Review: I liked story but it is stolen from Mevlana. Mevlana had lived in Anatolia, Konya in 13th century. His way was going to love and had written books to teach to art of living. His book had consist of 14 volumes. There is so many stories in it. This one is one of them. Just boy is living in Konya instead of Spain. the other parts are almost same.I wanted to say, since it is unfair

Rating: Summary: Majestically simple, inspiringly hopeful... Review: "The Alchemist" is a book most remarkable for its simplicity. In the characteristic style of Spanish legend, it speaks of life's adventures through the story of a child and the world. Its tone is almost magical - certainly majestic. It is a story of hope, and that hope is fostered and encouraged by the books simple style. Yet the message of hope is slightly skewered at the end, when the validation for the boy's "Personal Legend" is not realised until the possession of treasure. In the end, it was not the boy's journey that seemed to matter so much as the fact that it 'brought him something at the last.' The message might be cause for reflection and question, yet the book is overall well worth the short read.
Rating: Summary: great book with some problems Review: It's a great book but I can see three problems here. First, Santiago simply changed his mind about meeting the merchant's daughter; second, it never even occurred to him that he could take his journey with Fatima as a shared partnership instead of behaving like an old-time conqueror, like he did; third, much to my dismay, he actually found physical treasure instead of a true spiritual lesson, even though along the way, he learned true lessons.
Rating: Summary: I thought it was Ben Jonson`s .... Review: Someone told me to read The Alchemist. He meant the one by Ben Jonson.I am glad I picked up the `wrong one`. A most fascinating read. One is taken on a magic carpet ride even though in the book the mode of transport is by walking, camel and caravan. The language and tone of the book reminds me of Hemingway`s ~Old Man & The Sea`.Coincidentally the central figure is also named Santiago.Coelho writes simply and so the reader can just on and on without getting lost.Like many great books, the author drew much from the bible. VEry imaginatively he made Santiago to represent both David the shephard boy and Joseph the dreamer. I know It sounds like a cliche but indeed the book is a tour de force, the wind the sand the sun the boy the sheep..all chemistry wrought by the same hand. It`s wonderful. Now back to Ben Jonson,,,

Rating: Summary: Take a deep breath 'cause it could change your Life Review: The Alchemist is the best book that I have read in my short 21 years. Yes I have read books that have made me wonder, I have read books that have made me think. But this book gave me hope. I cannot say that this is my favorite book. No. That honor is to "The Mists of Avalon". But the beauty of this book lies in its simplisity. I really cannot articulate my admiration for this book, in that it changed my life. I started believing in myself again, and really what else could you ask from a collection of wood pulp? Read it, if you do not like it, re-think
