Rating: Summary: The Four Agreements Can Change Your Life Review: This book s interesting but enlightening:1. Be impeccable with your words 2. Don't take things personally 3. Don't make assumptions 4. Always do your best Sounds simple huh? Not so quick! Rooted in Toltec beliefs, Miguel Ruiz has done us all a great favor to explain and illustrate the above four agreements. This book serves as a practical guide to how we live daily. Language: Words, assumptions, thoughts, pre-occupation can always lead to misunderstanding and a break of relationship. Miguel Ruiz goes step-by-step, with practicals and examples, to help us achieve these four agreements. Say what you really mean to say. Don't circumvent or evade. Don't make assumptions because assumptions always lead to misunderstanding. Ruiz has so much to offer in this brillantly written book. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Feeling is Believing. Review: I've been poring through books about personal growth for years and I've found that if a book doesn't touch me, as in actually make me feel more alive, then all the words and ideas are just words and ideas. So when I read a review of Don Miguel Ruiz's "THE FOUR AGREEMENTS" where the reviewer actually said it felt good to read, I knew it was a book for me. The book is like taking a walk with a compassionate shaman who describes and lives simple truths. I particularly liked a passage on the third agreement ("Don't make assumptions") in which Ruiz describes a husband and a wife who fall out of relationship not because they don't love each other, but because they make assumptions such as the other member of the couple should be able to read their mind if they really loved them. How familiar! It really underscored the value of truthful communication for me. The same reviewer also recommended "WORKING ON YOURSELF DOESN'T WORK" by Ariel and Shya Kane. This is an excellent book about REALLY living your life fully. And a perfect example of how the words are secondary to the feeling of well-being that jump off this book's pages. Thank you, kind reviewer, for two great gifts.
Rating: Summary: Gain more self-power... Review: Family, Friends, Work, School, Relationships...Have you ever read a book that relates to all these areas of life and only with four concepts? Such a small yet powerful book that can change so many lives. It makes everything so clear and to the point...Every sentence, every word has magic that shoots straight to the heart...Like music, it feeds the soul.Thank you don Miguel and Amber-Allen Publishing for these wonderful words of wisdom. I highly recommend this book along with don Miguel's other books, The Four Agreements Companion Book and The Mastery of Love.
Rating: Summary: An Uncomplicated Approach to a Better Life Review: This small book packs a strong punch! Four very basic philosophies we should all live by for a better life & a better society. A reminder of how we should think & view our world. We have to let go of the negative past influences in life if we choose & commit to a positive future. This most important message this book offers is to love yourself without exception. This is done when we can stop judging others; for as we are judging them we are also judging ourselves. Quick, easy, & enjoyable reading for those who need to refocus on living the good life.
Rating: Summary: Be Open to This Book and Wisdom will be Yours Review: I received this book as a gift and let it sit for a while. When I finally read it, it spoke to me. In a simple, straight forward manner Mr. Ruiz outlines a plan to live your best life. The teachings are similiar to Buddhist teachings and Judeo-Christian beliefs. Central themes run through them all. I plan on reading it again in a couple of months. It is a book you can read it a couple of hours and "blow through." But that misses the point. I found myself ruminating on many of the passages. This book is truly a gift.
Rating: Summary: A Treasure Review: This little book is quietly becoming a major hit. Why? Because don Miguel touches our souls. He shares with us ancestral wisdom and truths. He writes elegantly and beautifully. He speaks of a life he knows of love, joy, and kindness. I have spent a little time with this man. He is a gift. So is this book. Treat yourself or anyone you love to this work.
Rating: Summary: Nothing to it Review: This book was very disappointing. I think the 4 agreements are great guidelines to live by. However, the book itself does a poor job of expanding on the ideas. The content of the book would fit nicely into a magazine article. Also, I found the writing to be somewhat poor. The thing I liked most about the book was the cover!
Rating: Summary: Practical as well as deep Review: The first time I read it, I blew through the book. Fairly practical information and good clear examples. Wasn't a lot of new material to me, but it was presented well and in a new light--so to speak. The second time, however, is a real work. It has been cause for me to reflect and reorganize some of the ways I think about things. You can take the simple statements of this book and go as deep as you want with it. For me, this time around is having a profound affect on how I view things. I am particularly engaged in the whole agreement and domestication aspects he presents.
Rating: Summary: A potent little book of wisdom Review: The Four Agreements are so simple, so down-to-earth common sensical, that upon first reading the reader will feel a wave of remembrance, a sense of reawakening that stirs the spirit, a recognition of the simple truths underlying many paths of spiritual intent. The principles taught by Don Ruiz are universal, compatible with the foundations of many belief systems, and adaptable to multiple persuasions. For instance: be impeccable with one's word. Simple enough, yet so far reaching. In understanding the power of thought and intention, one must be true to one's word. Words contain power, fueled by intention. Find strength in integrity. Another agreement, to liberate oneself from taking things personally frees up so much wasted energy spent in defending one's position. Perhaps a clearer definition of "turning the other cheek"? Don Ruiz's Four Agreements teaches lessons all seekers must eventually contemplate and integrate. I recommend this book to seekers of every varietal path, anyone traveling the way of heart, searching to find their true North, living an authentic life. It's not easy. Don Ruiz has given us a succinct guide to help us on our journey.
Rating: Summary: Ideals not easy to live by Review: On the surface, each of the four agreements seem simple and straight forward. We understand the truth of them, but putting them into practice is more difficult. I know not to take things personally, that whatever anyone does or says tells me more about that person than it does about me. I know it intellectually, but living it and feeling it are something else. My reactions tell me that I DO take things, personally, even as I am able to tell myself otherwise. Ruiz helps us get past that dilemma. Similarly, I DO make assumptions and have to remind myself to check them out, at least, if I can't stop assuming and interpreting. I can ask, Is this what you meant? But speaking our truth also means being aware of the power of our words. All of these concepts are part of doing our best, the fourth agreement. Ruiz's explanations of these four simple truths take us a step closer to the ideal of living by them. A book to re-read and ponder, remembering to be gentle with ourselves as we strive to do better. ~Joan Mazza, author of DREAM BACK YOUR LIFE and DREAMING YOUR REAL SELF
