Summary: Reviewers are catching the "Reel Spirit"
Review: "Reel Spirit" has received extremely favorable reviews and endorsements since its publication in March, 2000.

Here's what reviewers have been saying about this original movie guide:

*"The Book Reader" -- "Teague writes whimsically, enjoyably about the various aspects of soul that go to make up our kaleidoscopic human experience. . . . An encyclopedic array of movies and meaning. Very rich, very provocative."

*"The Edge" -- "Many ideas that Teague offers about these films are rarely discussed by more mainstream reviewers. His is not only a fresh approach, but a needed one in our human evolution. As we try to move beyond our limitations and grasp our true potential, nothing can be as moving and powerful as a film in helping us to realize our vision.

*John Mark Eberhart, book editor of the "Kansas City Star" -- "The book has real merit and is written with verve and -- dare I pun? -- spirit. I also liked the non-judgmental, non-sectarian nature of the work -- made it very universal and useful to readers."

*"The Messenger" -- "In a time when most of the mass media present a bleak picture of the contemporary world, it is refreshing to discover that there is still a lot of inspiration to be derived from the movies. Raymond Teague has compiled a useful guide to over 400 movies, ranging from smash hits to independent films, that span the history of cinema and present a more positive outlook on the world."

*"Attunement" -- "I would encourage all spiritual seekers who enjoy watching movies (and who doesn't love a good story?) to get a copy of `Reel Spirit.' Teague's writing style is fresh and lively. One can enjoy and receive spiritual nourishment from his reviews even if one has not seen the movie. But after flipping through the pages, one will undoubtedly see one's local video store in a new light. By selecting the right movies, it can provide a valuable source of spiritual inspiration and reflection. `Reel Spirit" provides a happy mix of fun, entertainment, and genuine spiritual growth. In terms of what the world has to offer, that may well be as good as it gets. I highly recommend `Reel Spirit."

In addition, "Reel Spirit" has received some exciting endorsements:

*from Alan Cohen, best-selling author of "My Father's House" -- "This is the book we've all been waiting for! . . . Hats off to Raymond Teague for illuminating the path to movies that touch the heart."

*Cynthia Brian, founder, CEO and president of Be the Star You Are, a non-profit positive media library -- "This is the first book we have found that offers people excellent choices for an evening of fun and relaxation viewing movies and videos dating from 1916 through 1999. It is a book that is a MUST on every family bookshelf. In our research we have found many people confused and discouraged with the negativity in the media today. Your reviews are thought provoking and offer inspiration with guidance to the positive power that lies within each of us."

Summary: What comes after "Did you like it?"
Review: Have you ever read one of those parenting magazines that says you should watch movies with your kids and then talk about what you've seen? If you're like me, you may be perfectly willing to do this, but don't know what to say. Reel Spirit provides some great conversation starters so that you and your family or friends can make moviegoing a shared experience. And if all those titles at the video store overwhelm you, use the book to identify good movies ahead of time!

Summary: THIS IS DEFINITELY AN INVALUABLE GUIDE
Review: I so enjoy finding spiritual elements in films, and this book helps immensely in alerting one to points in many films that one might miss. I question the spiritual value in some of the films discussed, but that's all to the good. I use this guide weekly chaeck;ing out the movies on TV, as well as, like other reviewers, taking it with me to the video store or library where I often check out videos.

I believe that this book will do loads in enhancing your enjoyment of many films, and may change your mind about some which you consdidered valueless until spiritual elements are brought out.

Summary: A Spiritual "Ahaaa!"
Review: Reel Spirit recognizes spirituality and clarifies why so many movies appeal to so many of us the way they do. The insights are meaningful, and the writing is as engaging as an on-going dialog, conveying the delightful experience of going to the movies with a connoisseur who happens to be your best friend.

Summary: Takes the guesswork out of picking a movie
Review: What a great, great book! As soon as it arrived, I quickly glanced through it and knew I would want to savor it for later. It's really difficult to put down. It's *very* easy to use; extremely well organized. The movies are grouped into headings from "Angels (and Other Messengers) in Our Midst" to "Have Yourself a Supernatural Christmas." I especially liked reading the author's reviews of movies I'd seen such as Edward Scissorhands, Mulan, Powder and my favorite, Resurrection. This book takes the guesswork out of what movie to see tonight!
