Rating: Summary: enjoyable reading for those who love a good ghost story Review: Leslie Rule is a proficient and entertaining writer. Her book, "Coast to Coast Ghosts" is the kind of book you look forward to reading at the end of a busy day, and one that you find difficult to put down. I have read quite a few books written about haunted places; it was refreshing to read some new stories, as well as new angles on some old favorites. Her research is extremely thorough, uncovering information long forgotten or buried. It is obvious that she puts her heart and soul into every story, and I for one appreciate the effort. After reading Leslie Rule's book, I had the pleasure of meeting her in person and was able to spend some time chatting with her over dinner. I found her to be an extraordinarily warm and gracious person and I look forward to reading her next book on this subject. As for Mary Grace from Northport, who recently reviewed this book and called Ms. Rule a numbnutz. What a shock it must have been for you to read a book entitled "Coast to Coast Ghosts" and find that it was filled with stories of people who had claimed to have seen a ghost. Perhaps if "numbnutz" was a word that was actually in the dictionary and we could look it up, we would find a picture of you.

Rating: Summary: Not Hans Holzer, but not bad either Review: Miss Rule is definitely no Hans Holzer. Her stories are a little too much to pattern, with vocabulary choices at times almost cliche, but the stories in her Coast to Coast Ghosts are quite charming none the less, and she does do a fair amount of background research on her subjects. As with Holzer's books on the paranormal, there is a bit of history incorporated into the discussion of the ghostly encounters. Whether one believes in ghosts or not, the stories still captivate. I didn't care much for the more blatant promotion of hotels with purported ghostly sightings, however. Even the hotel's phone number was included in some instances, just in case the reader might want to make a reservation. That was a little too commercial for my taste, but other readers might in fact like the information. One of the aspects of the book that I very much enjoyed was the lady's photography, since most of the photos in the book, including that on the cover, are her own. She definitely has a way of capturing the feeling of a place with the camera.
Rating: Summary: Great Stories Review: My daughters and I have been fans of Leslie for a number of years now after having read her first book cover to cover dozens of times.
This one is a keeper!! My daughter has read in three times and we are fighting over it, guess I need to order a second copy!!
A great read in front of the fire on all hallows eve!
Rating: Summary: A Chilling Book! Review: Obviously Leslie Rule did a considerable amount of research for this book, and her efforts are commendable. Not only did she brave terrifying specters in the night, but she also braved something scarier--snotty city clerks that weren't too anxious to share their information. What can I say? Some people out there just don't want to accept that ghosts are real...but they are, and Leslie's book gives much insight into their existence and heart-stopping ways.
My biggest complaint about this book is that I feel Leslie put too much of her own subjectivity into some of the cases and drew unsubstantiated conclusions based upon them. Nevertheless, the cases are chillingly entertaining with pictures that will haunt you forever and make your skin crawl.
Though I feel that some parts of this book could have been written better, I also believe that Leslie Rule has tremendous talent, which she's sure to bring to the fore, and I'm anxious to see what she'll bring us in coming years. I've already preordered her next book, "Ghosts Among Us," and I can't wait to see what kind of eerie spell she has woven within.
Rating: Summary: SALDOUS Review: One of the worst I have ever read...It outlines many stories but some of these stories are only a page or so long which leads to them being not very informative. Some of these stories are only based on one person stating they felt a presence or had an experience, which even for a believer, isn't enough for me. No bibliography, excellent pictures, but too much opinion without giving you the facts and letting you decide. Seems to be written more for a teen or older child vs. an adult. My niece read this book and loved it, but she is 10. I have loved almost every book on hauntings and ghosts I have ever read, and this is one of the unfortunate exceptions. If you prefer something that will keep you scared and awake at night, this isn't the book.
Rating: Summary: Interested in TRUE ghost stories? Review: This book is a fantasic read for those who are interested in ghosts and haunted places. Thru it you will learn of haunted places(possibly in your own town!!) all over the U.S. I stayed up all hours of the night reading this book and i'm sure you will to! You will even learn of Leslies own personal experiances!!! GET THIS BOOK!!! YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED!!!
Rating: Summary: Don't be fooled by the cover... Review: This book just isn't scary nor are the stories original, enlightening, or even interesting. It reads like a long, mediocre essay on the subject of ghosts and hauntings by someone very inexperienced in the medium.
For example, there is a story about a man living in an apartment, who always came home to find his cat outside by the door. He then proceeds to lock the cat in the bathroom but, again the cat is outside the door when he gets home. There is no explanation as to why this has anything to do with ghosts? or whether there could have been a window that the cat could have exited from? Why exactly is this worth writing about?
Put simply: The author is more concerned with jumping from one tale to another instead of weaving a strong, compelling argument for the existence of ghosts.
Rating: Summary: Light, Light Reading Review: This book provides an hour's worth of amusing reading. Though the author of the work is personable enough and the book's layout and design is clean (and nice to hold in the hand and look at), I had the sneaking suspicion that this collection was written more for teens than adults. The author gives us handy lists in side-bars about how to get rid of ghosts, how to tell if your house is haunted, and other goodies, but she does not go into detail when detail is most called for, especially in cases where the hauntings are well known and well documented. She merely mentions that this or that happened at such and such a time and then quickly--and sometimes abruptly--speeds on to the next story or the next section of stories. This gives the book a "light" touch that is often a bit too light. Another thing that I sorely missed is a good bibliography at the end of the book. Entertaining? Yes. Informative? Somewhat. The photographs are good though "informative" shots appear to lose out in favor of "evocative."
Rating: Summary: A Must Read For Ghost Story Lovers Review: This is one of the best books I've read about true ghost stories. The writer reaches right in and grabs your attention...making you feel like your right there, experiencing these events right along with the helpless victims sharing their lives with these spirits. Included with the ghostly tales are a listing of haunted colleges and information to "signs that a place is haunted". It was wonderful to read that this writer was not just writing about other peoples experiences, but she includes several of her own personal experiences with ghosts...making me realize that she just didn't interview and write, she was sympathetic to something she understood to be true, something she has personally experienced. I would highly recommend this book to all that are crazy about reading true ghost stories. Fantastic writer! Hope to see more books from Leslie Rule in the future on this subject!!
