Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Old snake oil in new bottles. Review: More proof that P.T. Barnum greatly underestimated the birth rate of suckers. I'm amazed that this book only got one other negative review. This latest "Idiot's Guide" is nothing but old snake oil in new bottles, a guide to phenomena which have been repeatedly exposed as fraudulent or non-existent. Since co-author Lynn Robinson is a "famous psychic," don't expect a balanced discussion. The publishers should only sell this one in a two-book package, with "The Complete Idiot's Guide To Critical Thinking."
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Great "starter book" Review: Over the last few months, I've had more and more experiences that one could consider to be "psychic ones." I got this book as one way to learn more about the "psychic world" and what I could do on my own to enhance my psychic abilities. And there's a lot that this book covers. One main thing I did learn was that I need to explore doing meditation. There are a number of meditation exercises listed in this book. There are also numerous anecdotes throughout the book to prove that there is indeed such a thing as "psychic phenomena."Starting off with determining whether or not you or indeed psychic, a "history" of pyschic-related events through the ages, and what science has to say about psychic phenomena, this book's goal is to inform, not preach and offer some good advice about expanding your psychic awareness, which it does in the second part of the book. Chapters about receiving information, opening up to, and "tuning in" to your awareness are feautred here. There are also later on in the book chapters about psychic healing, hypnosis, telepathy, precognition, channeling messages from "beyond our world," even some "tools of the trade." There's nothing "new agey" about this book, it presents information in a clear and straightforward manner and one that is easy for everyone to understand.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: THE Layman's Guide to Awakening & Tapping the Psychic Within Review: Showing great insight (of course) with regard to what many of us yearn to know, Lynn Robinson offers the ultimate guide to connecting with our inner voice. Brimming with facts about fun, easy ways to become "metaphysically fit," this down-to-earth, practical, lighthearted guide is as good (and succinct) as they get! I'm glad that I trusted my instincts and made the decision to buy this book. It de-mystifies a subject that is too often misunderstood. Now, when I'm questioning what I should do or desperate to get some advice, I don't have to go to a psychic for help - I've learned to consult myself!
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: GREAT ENCYCLOPEDIA of PSYCHIC INFORMATION Review: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Being Psychic, by Lynn A. Robinson, M.Ed. and LaVonne Carlson-Finnerty, has everything you need to recognize and develop your innate psychic abilities. Robinson is an intuitive consultant who has been helping people for more than 20 years, and Carlson-Finnerty is a writer specializing in health, alternative health, and spirituality. Together they've written an easy-to-understand book that will answer every question you might have about being psychic. Robinson emphasizes that everyone is psychic. It simply takes a bit of practice to develop your abilities. The book is filled with easy exercises designed to help bring you recognize psychic experiences and develop your own "sixth sense." The authors present a brief history of psychic phenomena, beginning with the Babylonians, who "read" animal entrails to predict the future. They also list people who have depended on their psychic abilities, including Sir Winston Churchill, Albert Einstein, and Henry Ford. They also tell you how to choose a psychic, or intuitive, consultant and what to reasonably expect from a reading. Most of the book, however, is devoted to developing your own abilities. They emphasize that "your intuition is sending you information all the time--you just need to start noticing it." People receive information in various ways. The most common are clairvoyance (inner vision), clairaudience (inner voice), and clairsentience (inner sensing). Others can touch an object and know its history (psychometry), while some receive information via taste or smell. They also discuss hypnosis, dreams, telepathy, auras, precognition, ESP, channeling, and astral travel. Once you learn to recognize and develop your particular psychic abilities, you can then use them to improve your life, especially for mental and physical healing. Your intuition can help you decide what your ideal life is, and then help you live that ideal. For those who wish to help others, the authors provide information on how to give a reading. Robinson and Carlson-Finnerty have also compiled several appendices of resource material, including Internet sources. The Complete Idiot's Guide to Being Psychic is a useful reference for anyone wishing to understand or develop their innate talents. It's easy to read, with lots of practical examples, and it thoroughly covers all things psychic.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: THE reference book in its field. Review: The integrity of this book is remarkable. Besides the clarity of its message and the humor with which it's delivered, what surprised me most was the way the science was treated -- cleanly and accurately. This is a singular accomplishment for a lay author writing for a wide audience. My guess is that "Being Psychic" will quickly become the preferred reference book for its subject. Congratulations to Robinson and her colleagues for giving us this important work.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: A very good practical guide to enhancing one's ESP Review: This book contains many easy-to-follow exercises to enhance your ESP, try all kinds of "paranormal" experiences (remote viewing, chanelling, aura reading, etc.) and find your purpose in life. It gives an up-to-date and objective view of the "psychic" subject through different points-of-view (psychics, skepctics, physicists and others). Many historical facts and unsolved mysteries are also mentioned. I, personally, have had some mild experiences since I've read the book (trance and synchronicities) and I really think that these are the stepping stones to the development of ALL OUR OTHER SENSES. The most important thing to keep in mind is practice, practice, practice. I would have given it the "5 stars", had it been the book that woke me up on the subject and made me discover that there's more to our reality than meets the eye. Anyway, I think it accomplishes it's purpose wonderfully. Enjoy!
