Review: The Gospel According to the Simpsons: Leaders Guide for Group Study
by Mark I. Pinsky is a great way to talk about the bible and the Christian faith for people that find the regular bible perplexing and confusing.

Summary: Can't You freaky Christians leave some things alone ?
Review: The joke is on you, Bible Bangers !! The Simpsons is so subversive that they've got you giving your money to them instead of your god - haw-haw ! You see, in the episode "HOMR", Homer has a crayon removed from his nose, thereby correcting some brain injury, and making Homer smart. One of the things he does while he's "smart" is to write up a paper proving that there is no God, and he gives this paper to Flanders. Flanders desparately tries to find a flaw in Homer's reasoning, but fails to do so. End of story. There is no god in Springfield, only organized religion, which as we know, is the opiate of the masses. So keep on with your pointless and misguided study groups. But stay away from The Simpson's - it's strictly for the non-believers.

Review: this companion volume is a helpful addition to the original book. The videos are difficult to find but worth the effort.

Summary: A fascinating course for a church
Review: We have been teaching this course at our Episcopal church to an intergenerational group of about 25-30 ranging in ages from 10-77. This is a wonderful course and even if you aren't a Simpsons fan, the series really is an eye-opener.

The only small bone to pick is that they use some (two)episodes for viewing that are unavailable via tape or DVD and this requires you to tape it off of TV when it airs, if you know when that is. Also some of the videos are out of print, so E-bay was a big help.

But the response to the course has been tremendous. People are really amazed that a "wicked, evil" cartoon can be so enlightening! I would recommend this for any church considering it.

Summary: Yay!
Review: We started using the Gospel According to the Simpsons with our High School youth group and the response has been awesome. The episodes and questions provide an excellent way to engage the kids in discussions. I highly recommend using this series - although I also recommend sending home a letter to parents explaining what you're doing with the series.
