Rating: Summary: A book of shadows within a book of shadows! Review: I'm surprised the reader below found nothing of interest here - recipes for ink and paper, great ideas for organization, and starter material besides, this book is a mini book of shadows within a book that describes how to make one for yourself!. The author shares personal excerpts and those from friends in a very user friendly format. I am an experienced practitioner but needed something to give me a fresh approach to my BOS - this was wonderful (including cyber spellbooks)
Rating: Summary: Great! Just what I was needing Review: I've been practicing for a few years and started off really well with my BOS, but have gotten myself in some sort of rut lately combined with the fact that I too have post-it notes and napkins and binder paper with my magickal scribblings and stuff written down and scattered everywhere! I needed this book and the other reviews were just what I needed to hear. It's great for giving direction, ideas and inspiration, correspondences and different things related to one's personal BOS. VERY valuable no matter if you are new to the Craft or been practicing for years, truly. I think everyone will find something they can use and then some in this book. Not another one like it that I have seen and just as good if not better than Ms. Telesco's other books. I seem to have many by her so there must be a reason! :-)
Rating: Summary: A must have!!! Review: If you're uncertain about what a BoS is, or what to put in it, this is a must have!! I'm halfway done with the book, and I love it!! It's really interesting, I feel like I'm sitting there with the author, not just reading. I feel as though she is really talking to me. I have found so many great tips in this book, and I have so many wonderful ideas about what to put in my BoS! I would recommend this book to ANYONE that is interested in making a BoS and has no clue where to start. I had no clue, but once I started reading this book, I know so much now!!! Its a must have for any person, even if you are a pro at this stuff....I'm sure theres a few things that you could learn in this bok! It's amazing, it's a BoS and a map on how to make your own! It even tells you how to meditate, Well you should definately buy this book!!!! It's amazing!! Thats all I can say about it !! AMAZNING!! :)
Rating: Summary: Instant make-over "Boring B.O.S. Syndrome" Review: Merry Meet! I Read this book over a rainy weekend on the water, and recieved from the Goddess message after message to spruce up my own Book of Shadows- I wasn't allowing myself to be as playful and creative as I should have been... this book is wonderfully inspirational, and will prove to be a muse for others who've suffered from Boring Book of Shadows Syndrome!!! Merry Part and Merry Meet Again!
Rating: Summary: One of a kind! Review: Most books dealing with magickal Books of Shadows give you very specific information, including spells, to basically copy into a handwritten journal of your own. NOT THIS BOOK! Finally, a comprihensive guide on what to include in your BoS, how to construct it, and how to organize it. Also included are hints to doing your intial research, suggestions to personalizing your BoS (including sending the pages to a book binder), and making your own paper for a special touch that corresponds with each section of your BoS. Great book, highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Oh what a shame Review: The part of the book that said stuff about spells and spell components was really confusing it sounded like she didn't know anything about spells she didn't tell how exactly to create a spell specificly it was confusing it just boggles my mind that i didn't understand it was a big dissapointment and i need to make a spell because i really want something and i been longing for it and thinking about it and worrying about it and it's a big huge thing that's been botheribng me and making sick and nervous so this book didn't do me any good but i finally found something that can change all my fears and so on etc
Rating: Summary: Nudge nudge nudge in the your direction Review: This an extremely helpful book that taps you just enough into designing - developing - giving birth to your own book of shadows. Not pushy, authoritarian, or bossy. Telesco writes as pleasant and friendly as someone you grew up with would address a letter to you. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: A book whose " Bewitchment " slowly fades Review: This book entrigued me for so long that I finally broke down and bought it. The reviews all said it would help with building the Book of Shadows. I was bewitched. That is, until I got the book. I found very little information that could not be found elsewhere. This book is more of a " spell book " than it is a guide to creating a Book of Shadows. If you are bran-spakin-new to the Craft and have read very little, then this book will help you. But if you've had a few years of practice, and consider yourself well read in the ways of the Craft, don't bother with this one. Blessed Be!
Rating: Summary: very helpful to the beginner Review: This book helped me to learn how to create your own spells. although i started a week ago i have successfully preformed 2 spells from this book. A keeper for people newer to the craft because it has a step by step guide. ....
Rating: Summary: Pretty Good! Review: This book may be generally good when it comes to writing one's own, personal Book of Shadows (spell book, I'd call it, more appropriatly, or book of the mind), but it's true signifigance comes through in its overall wealth of information. Most of its information on SpellBook creation is usefull - but just common sense, but it has so many other great things to it. This book is loaded with things like animal, food, and beverage correspondces, tips for spell craft, and even how to make your own paper, essential oils, and candles (and more!) It also contains some neat "portable magic" (talismans, amulets, etc.) ideas. However, as far as actual spellbook material, I didn't get a whooole lot of use out of it. It may've just been me, but it seemed that most of the stuff in there was merely common sense. Also, as a Kaos Magickian, I was turned off by the fluffy-yuffy wiccan ideals concealed within, but I'll try not to be too biased.... ok, biased or not, let's face it: Patricia Telesco doesn't seem to bright! It would seem appearent that most of her information isn't researched too deeply - back to origins and its true meaning. I do like her friendly writing style, though. So, conclusion: lots of points for lots of good info, although it may not be very deep. subtract a lil' for not hitting her mark directly on, and for lack of intelegence, and we'll say.... 4 stars. Not a must have, but you get your money's worth by far.
