Rating: Summary: An incredibly useful study tool! Review: I prefer the NASB translation due to the accuracy of its translation and was very pleased to find it available in this study Bible. The Greek & Hebrew Strong's numbers inserted in the text plus the complete Strong's Concise Dictionary and additional Greek and Hebrew helps are wonderful. The editor's notes at the bottom of some pages are also informative. I recommend this Bible to any serious student of the Bible who would like a decent measure of Greek and Hebrew help in a single portable Bible. To keep the Bible from getting overly large (it's quite a reasonable size now) it doesn't index as many words as I would have liked, but it is enough to be useful when I am away from home and my more extensive study tools. The one thing I would have definitely preferred (even at the cost of increased size) is larger type. It is set in a very crisp, 10 point (I would guess), serifed, typeface which is readable but still small for my over-40 eyes even with my reading glasses.
Rating: Summary: Great Bible .... but could be better organized Review: I purchased the NIV version of this Bible, but I know that the NABS version of it is organized in the same way. The back of the Bible has a section that is similar to Strong's with definitions. The Bible also has a section that is a more in-depth lexicon based on the same numbers. I would have been better to have combines these 2 sections into one so you would find all of the information in one place. Please also note that the NASB text is based on the older version of the NABS and does not include the 1995 updates.
Rating: Summary: Disappointed Reader - KJV Version :( Review: I write this review to express my disappointment. I ordered this bible like so many of your other readers, because of the detail and ability to study keywords and gain an insight into different passages of scripture to help myself learn from God's Word. 4 Months after ordering your bible (in Australia) i received it - I could hardly wait to open it up and start studying, looking into the meanings of words, and reading the commentaries. And it gave me all those things it was great... Until one morning i was looking at the different sections and at the contents and saw "Spelling Changes" I thought what's this all about, and looked it up, to find to my disbelief that this "KJV" bible had many words changed into modern english from the archaic english. I was instantly enraged, how could this not be clearly marked on the box - how could it be called a King James Version - my pastor has an older version - which does not have word changes - why change them now. I feel deceived - I spent a great deal of money on this bible! If i wanted to have a revised edition of the KJV i could have brought one of many modern translations, but i believe those translations are wrong and that the KJV is the most accurate...
Rating: Summary: NASB Key Word Study Bible Review: Let me begin this review by stating that I'm reviewing the NASB version of this study bible. I have also used an older version of this bible in the KJV, but my comments will be directed to the NASB edition. I recently acquired one of these bibles and it has truly been useful to me in my studies. You must realize that although our translations are good (the NASB being an excellent example) they are only efforts at translation. THEY ARE NOT PERFECT! The only way to truly read the unflawed word of God is to read it in the original language. Unless you're a scholar this might be impossible. This bible makes that a reality! Did you know that there are four different greek words that are translated "love" in the New Testament? If you didn't know that you might apply the same meaning to "love" everywhere it occurs. This does not allow you to reach the truest meaning of some passages. This bible allows you to know what the original language said, so that you can compare alternate translations with what is actually written. It also gives insight to the different clauses used in greek and how they compare to english clauses. It has very extensive cross references and complete Hebrew and Greek dictionaries (both tied to Strong's numbering system) in the back. Additionally, it has a complete set of lexical aids tied to many of the Strong numbers, and the complete NASB concordance. In short, this is a study bible for the serious student who wishes to unlock the meaning of scriptures by way of the original language. If you're looking for more general study with application notes, then you would probably be happier with the NASB study bible (see my review) or a Life Application Bible. Supplementary, it doesn't include the 1995 update to the NASB text. I really enjoy mine, but I don't used it exclusively for my study.
Rating: Summary: Make sure you read all the past reviews Review: Make sure you go to the bottom and click "read all xx customer reviews." This is a very nice Bible. It works as the reader below explained. I thought that all the clutter would get in the way of reading, but I soon got used to it. I can read it now as easily as any other Bible, and I know a couple simple things about verb tenses and the words without looking them up. Fairly soon I think you'll find that you'll read verbs with "ppt," which means a continuous or repetitive action, differently than other verbs which simply state one time of action. This is very helpful to see what those words mean, as it's difficult to convey the meaning of some verb tenses in English. Dr. Zodhiate's commentary is helpful, and very conservative. As far as the physical book, I got the leather-bound NASB edition. The only thing I don't like about it is that the pages are paper-thin. There is also very little room in the margins for notes, for people who need that kind of thing. However, this allows the bible to be quite neatly sized.
Rating: Summary: The best Bible available today. Review: Of all of the Bibles I've ever seen or owned, this one is the best. Not only does it use the Authorized Version, but it also contains Strong's complete Hebrew and Greek dictionaries, a fantastic lexical aid for almost every word in the dictionaries, more cross references than you can imagine, and other stuff. His commentary sprinkled throughout is informative, and thought provoking, and leans heavily on the Reformed side. If I could only have 1 book with me and I wanted a Bible, commentary, Strong's dictionary of Hebrew and Greek, and a huge list of cross references, this is the only study Bible that comes close.
Rating: Summary: Excellant Source for the serious Bible Student Review: Of all the Bibles I own, this is definately my favorite. It contains the entire Hebrew and Greek dictionaries with reference numbers embeded into the text for quick look up. In addition, there are complete sections of Lexical Aids to both the Old and New Testaments. There are scripture cross references and non-denominational commentaries throughout. When carrying this Bible you have a complete Bible Study and reference library at your fingertips.
Rating: Summary: For the Christian on the "MEAT" Review: Pro's:
KJV - Poetic and a literal translation
Strong Numbers - so you can study the origianl language and come away with a deeper meaning for God's Word.
Comentary - Some very useful comentary and historical in-sights.
Con's:
Strong Numbers - Incomplete, selective words. Suggest getting a complete Strongs Concordance to go with this study Bible.
Price - Kind of expensive. If you already have a KJV Bible, suggest getting a Strongs instead. If you can afford it, buy it.......!
Rating: Summary: Good Home Reference Bible Review: The Hebrew Greek Key Word Study Bible is largely a standard cross-referenced text, save for two significant features. Firstly, it has numbers for most of the Hebrew (Old Testament) or Greek (New Testament) words that don't translate perfectly into English. These can be looked up in a partial dictionary in the back, or in a Strong's dictionary (the included one is just an excerpt with the most common words). Secondly, it has numerous 'key' footnotes that explain difficult passages, or add insight to certain Biblical events.
Both of these features are done well. Truth be told, if you own a Strong's dictionary you don't really need the references, but it does help to see the notes right there. The dictionary in the back is somewhat clumsy. I prefer to use an electronic one for number lookups. The key notes are generally very well done.
Lexical aids are provided for the more important Hebrew and Greek words, and provide additional explanation of translation and meaning. There's even guides for pronunciation and grammar, if you're interested. A useful concordance is also included, as well as 8 pages of high quality maps.
As for the Bible itself, the hardcover edition lacks a built-in bookmark but has a cover that's generally more durable than the bonded leather version (I haven't yet seen a genuine leather edition, so I can't speak for that). It measures 9.25x6.25x1.75 inches and weighs enough to make a desk useful for reading. This is why I can't recommend this Bible for travel. Additionally, there isn't much space in the margins for taking notes, especially if the center column is filled with references. The back cover also looks more like an advertisement than anything else, which is likely due to the absence of a box. The binding is of minimal quality, glued together rather than sewn. The pages are of sub-average quality, aren't quite opaque, and easily bleed through. I have also spotted an occasional (quite rare) error in the references, as well.
If you have a hard copy or electronic Strong's, this Bible is a great counterpart for it. It's also useful for anyone that wants to take the time to go a bit deeper into the meaning of the original Hebrew/Greek manuscripts. In all, I recommend this Bible despite its flaws.
Rating: Summary: Perfection Review: The Hebrew-Greek Key Word Study Bible is the best book that I have ever had the pleasure of studying. There are true riches in this book that the diligent student will ascertain upon an in-depth study. It is fully loaded with lexical aids and grammatical codes that are notated throughout the Holy scriptures. The Strongs Dictionary is a tremendous help in understanding the correct Hebrew and Greek definition of our English words. Anyone that desires to know God's word completely must have the Hebrew-Greek Key Word Study Bible in his or her arsenal. A strong desire to know the Lord more personally and intimately will prompt the reader to perform extensive research. This Bible has all of the hidden treasures that are waiting to be discovered and used by its persevering reader. I thoroughly enjoy uncovering the riches of God's love and nature that are so prevalent in this book. The Hebrew-Greek Key Word Study Bible is a force to be reckoned with. Why? God is the author and His book is an all-time best seller. Kudos and then some!!
