Rating: Summary: Insightful insepction of the overlooked enemy - our own Sin Review: The christian has three enemies. The world, the devil, and the flesh(our sinful desire). Too often we recieve teaching that completely leaves out our flesh. Such omission brings unrealistic expectations and methods in the struggle to put to death daily the flesh.Kris draws on Owens in an easy to follow literary style. The questions at the end of each chapter make the book suitable for daily or semi-daily devotion. In fact the real impact of the book is in putting the ideas into practice. This requires the work of God in the heart through prayer and scripture. Kris is helpful in leading us to this work of faith in our lives. The book spends much time dealing with the enemy, so it would be of benifit to read quickly through the book in one or two sittings to get a feel for where all of this talk about the flesh is leading in terms of Christ the victor. Otherwise you might find yourslef talking for weeks about sin is this and sin is this and what are we supposed to do about it anyway?... -chip
Rating: Summary: A most excellent book dealing with overcoming sin. Review: The Enemy Within presents in an easy to read format the great work of the Puritan theologian John Owen. It is one of the most helpful books I have read on the subject of indwelling sin in the life of the Christian. The writing is enjoyable and to the point. The book is excellent for use in a small group study. It is easy to read and quite accessible for younger readers. It is a book that you will want to read more than once and prayerfully put into practice. The power behind the book is not the author but the word of God which he explains. May God bless you as you read this book.
Rating: Summary: Changed my life Review: This book is a great place to start for those who want to get serious about sin. The book is short, and reads very easy. It takes big and complex theology and makes them very clear with great illustrations making it easy to identify with. It is a must read for all Christians, young and old. I highly recomend this book.
