Rating: Summary: If you only read one book, make it this one. Review: I first read this book almost 20 years ago, and it's message is as relevant today to me as when I first read those God inspired pages. Each time I read this book I am reminded of the verse "Unless a corn of wheat fall into the ground and dies it abides alone; but if it dies it brings forth much fruit." Bruce Olson is that corn of wheat which has fallen into the ground and died, and from his life, much fruit has been born for the Glory of God. You will not be able to put this book down; each page will shout at you to read on, read on, read on, and each page will also inspire you too to become as that
corn of wheat. It is suitable for both the saved and the unsaved to read.....the unsaved for salvation and the saved for deeper commitment and inspiration. Go on, read it NOW.
Rating: Summary: great book Review: I keep re-reading this book, and each time see something new to learn about international missions. It has helped shape my thinking and methods a lot! Thank God for his committment.
Rating: Summary: What happens when a 17 yr. old boy hears God call him? Review: I must agree with the other rave reviews for this book. I like to buy copies and give them to people I love. WARNING! This autobiography can't be pulled away from your eyes once you get into it, and it will remain in your mind and soul forever! I laughed, I cried, and I read it again. Get it, read it, give it away. T.J. FYI: Bruce continued to live with the Motilone Indians and has been instramental in preserving this tribal people. I believe he still lives with this people and is now near his 50s.
Rating: Summary: Read this book if you read only one! Review: I read this book and it really opens up your mind to the primative conditions that missionaries are willing to go through just to help people learn about Christ. If you only read one book, read this one!
Rating: Summary: POWERFUL! Review: I read this book in 1 day. You cannot put it down. It was so imspiring and powerful my dad went to South America to meet Bruce after he read the first edition about 20 years ago. I have encouraged friends to read it and they can't put it down either. Strongly recommended--it will change something in your life!
Rating: Summary: Life Altering Review: I read this book when I was a teenager; after reading it again recently (Ok, i should have been studying, but I couldn't put it down!!), I remembered why it had such a lasting impact on my life, my outlook, and my faith. Bruce Olson's testimony may not be 'typical' for most Christians, but I don't think Christians are called to be 'typical', rather we are called to be 'effective' in whatever place, or manner God calls us; the question is...do we heed the call or run? This is a beautiful lesson in faith, and will.
Rating: Summary: Captivated and thrilled me as it revealed God's Awesomeness! Review: I teach a Junior Boys Sunday School class and if any of you have ever taught, especially that age class then you know it takes a strong effort on your part to get and keep there attention. I would read the book and then paraphrase the story without adding to or taking away from it. They couldn't wait to hear the story and I had no problem keeping there attention. With all the things Bruchko had to face they almost found it hard to believe it was a true story. It's wonderful to know God can use man to accomplish His will. The story gave me encouragement that God can and will use me in some way. This Book is a definite must to any Missionary called to the Mission field.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book Review: I was blown away by this true account. I couldn't believe the depths to which he went to bring the Good News to the people of the jungle. This was tremendously inspiring for those of us who feel called to do the same.
Rating: Summary: the most unbelievable part is it's true Review: I whole heartedly agree with the other reviews. As the one person said- WARNING ONCE YOU START READING THIS YOU WON'T STOP! It was absolutely the best adventure story I have read in a long, long time. . . . and it is true! You will learn how God called author Bruce Olson to fulfill the Great Commission and when God leads Bruce's path there are great rewards and when he tried to implement his own plan (against God's clear direction) there is trouble. This is a story of the most amazing miracle that happened over a 20 year period. PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND PURCHASE THIS BOOK AND READ IT - YOU WILL BE BLESSED!
Rating: Summary: Awesome Review: If you are interested in missions, you can't miss this book
