Rating: Summary: The Book of Life Review: A stately, lucid translation, preserving traditional cadences while being unencumbered by thees and thous. It is among the very best of translations made in this century. However, we do deplore the absence of the deuterocanonical books, commonly called the Apocrypha (Wisdom, Ecclesiasticus, Judith, Tobit, Baruch, etc.) -- these books were considered an integral part of the Scriptural canon by all Christians from the first century until the Protestant revolution.

Rating: Summary: God's word to those who believe Review: Do not be tricked by the first review. The NIV is a spiritually inspired translation of God's word to those who believe. This "book" has changed my life forever.
Rating: Summary: life changing book Review: hello, this book has some of the best writing i've read, especially the gospels. i've read some other translations such as the KJV and I find myself always coming back to this one because of its clarity and contemporary grammar and lexicon.

Rating: Summary: The Book of Life Review: I have read this Book cover to cover six times and I am almost finished with the seventh. Every time I read it, I discover better and better treasures hidden in it. Whether in the form of historical narratives or poetry, it is filled with timeless truth about God and man. If you will read one book cover to cover all your life, please let it be this one!
Rating: Summary: NIV version is very easily read and understood Review: I like to see people reviewing a Bible for its use in certain environments(for teaching youth, for adults, for new Christians etc). I like this small, compact Bible for shipping to Bible students in other countries. I am partial to the NIV because it is accurate and understandable without watering down the translation. This NIV is small and affordable. The print is a bit small, but still able to be read. I don't think I would recommend it for younthful readers because they are more likely to make an effort to read a version that is colorful, has a dictionary, and possibly some illustrations. The text in this book would appear overwhelming and uninteresting for a young reader.

Rating: Summary: I love this book Review: I was so happy to receive this edition of the Bible through the mails recently. It is a very small version of the NIV that can fit into any backpack or briefcase. On the other hand, the "mass market" characteristics of the book make it very susceptible to wear and tear. The spine of the book is very thin and breaks easily. I give this book a shelf life of about 1 year until it is in tatters or is too ragged to use. I suppose dedicated people who wanted to take a bible anywhere would do well to invest in one of those leather ones or the kinds with sturdy paper. Anyway, I am very pleased with this edition and recommend it to everyone who has an interest in this kind of thing.
Rating: Summary: Very disappointing, don't waste your time! Review: If only Christians from various denominations knew and actually analyzed what the Bible taught, then they would know it was a fraud and not the "Word of God." My reasoning is as follows: First of all, are Adam and Eve really the first humans who lived on this planet 6,000 years ago, when there's much archaelogical evidence that disproves this? And was there really a complete, entire fall of man because of Eve eating an apple that she wasn't supposed to eat? Does that sound like an act that a fair and just God would enact on mankind? And are mankind really children of Satan unless they've been saved, because of the fall, when Jesus was here to proclaim the brotherhood of all men? And another thing, are the devil, Lucifer, Satan, and Beelzebub all the same being? And why is there this mean, vengeful, wrathful, monstrous God of the Old Testament, when this same type of God isn't mentioned in the N.T., except for possibly Revelation which absolutely no one understands, and yet Jesus proclaimed the love of God many times, not the "wrath of God." And why is there so little of Jesus' life in the Bible if it's God's Word -- biblical scholars say that the Bible covers only about 28 days of His life. And was there really a worldwide flood during the times of Noah, responsible for possibly hundreds of thousands of deaths, when it's known that the Hebrew writers of the O.T. were totally frustrated that they couldn't trace their lineage all the way back to the times of Adam, so they made it up? And why would all of these wonderful, magical, and supernatural things, like the parting of the Red Sea, happen to "God's chosen people" when none of this kind of thing has ever happened in recent memory? And would God really delight in sending people to an eternal fire-burning hell that He created? And don't tell me that the Devil created Hell because he's not a creator. And another thing, would an "offended" God really use mankind as a pawn to send His Son Jesus to the cross to "die for our sins" since Eve screwed up by eating an apple? Did mankind, God and Satan all conspire to have Jesus killed? And if there's so much of the Jewish traditions that were total nonsense and baloney, then why would the idea of sacrificing animals, to atone for the sins of mankind, be important and God-ordained, when God NEVER changes and would NEVER implement this nonsense? And would Jesus really come to die at the cross to be our sacrificial lamb and to once and for all do away with the concept of sacrificing animals? And why is there so little about heaven mentioned in the Bible, and why is Melchizidek rarely mentioned in the Bible, when it's obvious that he had a very important mission while on this planet. Don't get me wrong, I love the Lord Jesus as my Saviour with all my heart, but wake up Christians! It's time to stop and think about some of the concepts that this book teaches, some of the doctrines that have been formulated from this book, and to ask yourselves if this is really the "inerrant, infallible Word of God."
