Rating: Summary: This book changed my LIFE, forever. Review: I became a Christian while in college, 24 years ago. In spite of my "selling out" to the Lord, attending seminary, and marrying a pastor (who got out of the ministry, a decade ago), I have had an insurmountable battle with guilt, because of one specific sin in my past. Even though I appeared, to everyone who knew me, to be a bubbly, fun, happy person, my emotional baggage was heavy...An old college friend and I hooked up, 20 years after having last seen one another, and he gave me the book, thinking it might be key to my inability to let go of this one sin. This book, single-handedly, did what neither my husband, nor time spent praying, or ANYTHING else I've tried, for two decades, could do - it set me free, and I am at peace - TRULY at peace - for the first time in my life. My walk with the Lord is finally not built on trying to do the right thing, but on resting in the hammock of His love for me - a concept I understood but could not apply to mySELF. If you are frustrated with anything in your past or present, this is THE book for you...I also liked that the author wasn't a Christian, until the age of 36 - sort of "my type" of Christian. Regardless of where you are, this is the most awesome book you will EVER read. It is also the ONLY book I have EVER read which was, simultaneously, intellectually-stimulating AND and easy-read. Phenomenal. I am reading it for the second time, immediately after having finished it, and I have bought 15 copies, to give to friends I have who struggle with various things which are difficult to let go of. Two friends who are reading it right now are NOT Christians, and both have said, "I want this...this is what I've looked for, all my life...I want what you have." If you buy this book, and want to talk to someone about it, make your subject line clear (or I won't open your email), and I would love to discuss it with you! I am talking to three different friends, right now, who are reading it. All say exactly what I have, about it. Please buy this book - you will NEVER be the same...never, never, never. My husband cannot BELIEVE how different I am, overnight...this book will do for you what no other can - at least, in my experience. krista1230@yahoo.com
Rating: Summary: Before you do anything else, read this book! Review: I first read this book 10 years ago and I can still say it changed my life and my relationship with Jesus. It's simple real life stories clear up so much of the cloudy confusion in Christian teaching. God is definitely using this book to bring people into an understanding of His amazing Unconditional love and acceptance. If that's something you want to understand, get this book. Besides that, it's true.
Rating: Summary: a MUST-READ for young and tired Christians Review: I first read this book five years ago, back in 1996. So, now, I can't remember the specific details of this book. However, I still remember it changed my sinking spiritual life back then. The book helps you understand the real meaning of being a Christian. Many Christians believe that they have to follow rules all the time. Also, they can't sin. And they have to behave well. We often characterize Christians into "spiritual" and "non-spiritual". Therefore, sometimes you just feel too much pressure in being "spiritual" and growing forever in Christ. This book releases you from this "legalistic" regime of false Christianity. In my opinion, this book is very suitable for young Christians who just came to Christ, and those Christians who feel weary or exhausted in their spiritual lives. I highly recommend this book because it really helped me five years ago. I sincerely hope it will help you too.
Rating: Summary: This book can change your life! Review: I first read this book in the summer of 1992 and have re-read it many times since. I still give about 10 copies a year away to friends/family and people seeking to find out about this Man who was raised from the dead to give us spiritual life. I highly recommend it to any Christian or non-Christian who is steeped in tradition and religion, but does not know why they believe what they believe. It is easy to read and concise. Definitely one of the five books I want to have if stranded on a desert island.
Rating: Summary: One of the best books I've ever read Review: I had been a committed Christian for about 20 years before I read this book. I have read most of the classics of Christian faith - The Bible (of course!), Foxes Book of Martyrs, Mere Christianity, Pilgrim's Progress, How Then Shall We Live?, and more. All of these books are great. The most life changing one for me was the Bible (obviously!), followed by Classic Christianity. Eight years later I still read Classic Christianity occasionally for refreshment and also lend it to friends. It greatly improved my walk with Jesus. My friends who read it for the first time have a similar impression. I am going to order more copies to give away.
Rating: Summary: There is NOTHING like God's Grace... Review: I have been a Christian for 15 years and my faith has been a heavy burden for me for so long and I never understood why. Peace and joy were only words to me. I assumed that I just had not yet achieved "authentic Christianity" and that I had to work to achieve that level before I could know those things that God promises. Boy, was I off base. Bob George's book literally changed my life (and I don't use that phrase liberally or lightly). It showed me the true gospel message that I had been missing for so long. For the first time in my depressed life, God lifted the blackness and I knew what peace and rest meant. I now know more about what salvation REALLY means: true life on earth not just biding our time until we get to heaven. The Lord meets you where you are. Thank God for that AND for Bob George's book. A must read for anyone looking for rest in their faith.
Rating: Summary: Grace is what it's all about... Review: I have read most of Bob George's "Classic Christianity" and it has really opened my eyes to what this walk of faith in Christ is all about! I agree with another review of this book that legalism is one heck of a killer in the life of individual Christians and the Church at large. It is all about the grace and salvation we have been given, but not earned, in Christ!
I highly recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: Peace! Review: I picked this book up because of the title and it was a real gift! It brought peace back to my Christian heart and my focus back on God instead of what I may be doing wrong! Believe Bob George knows his Bible and his Lord! Highly recommend it!
Rating: Summary: This book changed my thinking about Religion. Review: I was brought up Catholic. I never knew or appreciated the love of God until I read this book. In a way it changed my life. It certainly set me on a new path....a new spiritual journey to learn and desire to know Christ. The book made me realize the love that Jesus, that God has for us. That was never taught to me in my Catholic upbringing. It was always a teaching about good deeds, working to get the love of God which I now realize is a dead end street. He LOVES us,and He died for us and His Grace is there for us to receive if we could just get it together and accept His gift. And once we all realize the impact His love can have on our hearts we'll see how He'll shine and radiate through us and make a big difference in our lives and the lives we share with others.
