Rating: Summary: 101 Inspirational Stories of the Rosary Review: This is a very uplifting book. It gives hope. It is a book that you can read a few pages or many. You can re-read it and get as much or more from it than you did with the first read. This is a happy book!
Rating: Summary: "Something to hold on to..." Review: The "inspirational" stories range from the gooily sentimental and self-centered to the embarassingly erroneous. One writer claims Mother Seton had a devotion to the "Miraculous" Medal, though she died in 1821 and Our Lady of the Medal appeared in 1830! Many writers are very unfamiliar with Catholicism in general, and at least one talks of a discredited apparition of Our Lady. There are some good things in the Appendices. Otherwise, it reads like "Touched by an Angel" meets "Highway to Heaven." I recommend instead Maisie Ward's _The Splendor of the Rosary_, written at the end of WW II. There a shell-shocked non-Catholic describes the rosary as "something to hold on to...," as Caryll Houselander prays "lying flat on the floor with the house rocking and black smoke all around."
Rating: Summary: wow - something extraordinary in rosarian literature Review: What's not to like about this book? From the charming story behind the book, to the many testaments of the rosary, this is a very fun book which should appeal to just about any Catholic (from the fanatic to the moderate) and may just have an incredible impact on those who are not. The book has over 101 stories and I'd say about a quarter are exceptional and 90 percent of the others are good stories. A very excellent touch is the quotations from the saints and other Catholic figures on the rosary and Mary (as well as some prayers too) that are interspersed between the stories. Given the rather light tone of the book, the inclusion of Pope John Paul II's encyclical letter on the rosary provides a perfect balance to this book. I rate this book 5 as it is one of a small handful of books on the rosary that I think is the very best. On the one hand, this book is not for theologians (aside from JPII's letter) or anyone interested in deepening their rosary meditations (like many other books on the rosary, the section devoted to the mysteries is pretty brief). Additionally, some of the stories I simply wouldn't include in such a collection. On the other hand the book is simply perfect in responding to the Pope's call to once again take up the rosary. The stories are very encouraging, and the tone and presentation of the book will make it accessible to anyone and above all those that need to read this book the most. Taken as a whole, the stories present a powerful collage of the human drama. Bravo! I look forward to a sequel or perhaps more forward to a 2nd edition that includes twice the number of stories and information on the rosary.

Rating: Summary: Stupendous book Review: This book is about the best testimony about the Holy Rosary I've read. The best part is, the stories are all true! I can attest to the one about my brother entitled, "The Blessed Mother in Kuwait". Our Lady is always taking care of us, like a good mother should. Once you start reading, it's hard to put down. The stories are just long enough and some really give you goosebumps. It's a great book for anyone, not just Catholics. May God bless you all. :)
Rating: Summary: A Very Inspirational Book Review: This stories in this book have been compiled during a most appropriate time, as Pope John Paul II has proclaimed this year, 2003, as the "The Year of the Rosary". It is an amazing collection of narratives that describe the power of Our Lady's prayer, the Rosary. Each story tells how the Rosary was a profound influence in each author's life, and reinforces what those of us who rely on the Rosary know for a fact - that miracles still happen every day through Mary's intercession. It is light reading, and highly inspiring. It would make a great gift for new Catholics, or for anyone.
