Rating: Summary: A Shed of Light for the times we live Review: "A Woman Rides the Beast" is a truly astounding book. The history of the Catholic church is astonishing. I had always had my doubts about the church, but learned fully of the deception the church holds. Any one reading this book should walk away with a disgust for this church. From revealing Pope's sins and supposed infallibility to the church's involvement in some of the most inhumane events in history, this book shares the Catholic church in ways you would never know unless you are an unbiased historian. Dave Hunt does a wonderful job in revealing to the world the evilness of this church. I highly recommend this book to anyone especially Christians and Catholics. The facts and historical accounts are there as well as quotes from many well known apologists and many other world renowned people. I give this book 5 stars for the light it sheds on the catholic church.
Rating: Summary: The truth is shocking at times.... Review: This book is incredible. Incredibily informative to be exact. I have seen some of the negative criticism about this book. But if only a portion of it is the verifiable truth, the thesis is true: The Catholic Church is the Apostate Church.
The ecumenical movement of the 21 century needs to carefully review this book. Catholics need to read this book and honestly answer some questions it will certainly raise.
The whole of the situation comes down to this: My faith is in Jesus, not my church. If my church was implicated in any one of the numerous things that the Catholic Church has been involved with I would drop them like a bad habit. Catholics can you say the same thing?

Rating: Summary: Dave Hunt Confirmed My Suspicions Review: Before I ever picked up this book I suspected that the Catholic Church was the "woman" of Revelation 17 who sits on 7 hills, an adulteress drunk on the blood of the saints, riding on the back of a beast who himself represents 7 world-dictators. The Bible also describes this woman as a great city.
How can a city be an adulteress? And how can an adulteress ride on the back of a beast?
All through history politics has made strange bedfellows, and the kings and priests of various religions and cultures have forged alliances for their mutual wealth or simple survival. Sometimes the king dominates and "rides" the religion, and sometimes the religious leaders dominate and "ride" the king.
The Holy Roman Empire was just such a horse and rider. Sometimes the emperorer was strong, and sometimes the pope was strong. The popes had armies and castles with dungeons. Often a new pope came to power by murdering his predecessor.
Catholics may not like hearing that that Bible calls their church an "adulteress", but each Catholic should ask himself, what does this mean in Bible-speak?
In the Bible an adulteress or prostitute often serves as a metaphore for someone who once knew God, but then turned away from him. After reading about the millions that have been murdered by the Catholic church, one has to ask, has this entity turned away from God?
And what about the doctrines of Rome that are nowhere to be found in the Bible? Are these doctrines borrowed from ancient Babylon, Persia and Greece? What was their religion? Does it survive today in Catholicism?
This book is not a light read. The information about the millions of Christians who have been killed by the Catholic church is mind boggling and heart-breaking. Whether or not the Catholic church is the woman of Revelation 17, she is indeed "drunk on the blood of the saints".
What does this mean for us today? Aren't these things forgotten medieval events? The Bible says this:
"Come out of her, my people, so that you will not share in her sins, so that you will not receive any of her plagues; for her sins are piled up to heaven, and God has remembered her crimes."
Rev 18:4-5
Rating: Summary: Sciolists' reviews Review: To those who would speak out against this book, they can sound intelligent or knowledgeable, but it is clear that they have at best delved only superficially into the whole picture of the history of Romanism/Vaticanism. It takes much more than some anti-Romanism books to get to the bottom line and when one does so, they discover that Dave's bottom line is right on target. One needs to probe deep into history, many of the deeper sciences, basic human psychology, archeology, theology, biographies, eschatology, the contradictory teachings of "church fathers" (sic), the history of the Bible, the zeitgeist (the current spirit of the world... as well as that of the past) and be on top of current world events to name only a few. Simply, as they take the journey to seek out such answers, if confronted with something to which they are ignorant, take that path towards knowledge in these things. (One does not need to become an "expert" of them.) They need to seek out the heart of the authors from whose works they read. But most of all, they need to understand the Holy Bible which can only be attained and understood by certain dispositions.
Men such as Dave Hunt (right or wrong) are only vessels or tools we can use to further our research and to dig deeper in trying to unbury the truth that has had dirt piled on it for (NT-wise) 2 millenniums. Dave's works are only a small section of the greater puzzle. Only the most diligent will gather enough of the pieces to put together the picture that will reveal divine truth (to the extent of our God-granted ability to do so). The sciolists who write these poisonous reviews are lacking the greater scope of the picture or, like evolutionists, actually believe that there is credible evidence to support their belief. To those reading these negative reviews, I can only say, get the book, read it and then go about proving and/or disproving it. But it cannot be achieve by strictly theological or doctrinal avenues of pursuit. Instead of focusing on a house or a city, consider the view from space where one can move ever further out to gain an even broader perspective. This is how the pursuit of such things must be undertaken. To do otherwise is to be a microcosm, and to have the same diminished voice, to any true wisdom and intelligence and to one's true potential. Biblically, "few" find the path that leads to life (i.e., truth) and "many" travel the road to destruction (i.e., are credulous to fallacies). Chances are that if something, especially ethereally-related, has popularity in numbers, it is a fallacy. (There is a certain clue to that.)
If objective and divine truth is the true heart of your quest, then follow your heart. Be ready and willing to makes sacrifices of your present philosophical/religious POVs and other influencing factors. But most of all, only let the words of men, including my own, be but small signs on the road you travel and not the major highway. If one's motive is truly righteous, the way of that person will be divinely guided.
Truth is found in one's desire to know... and in humbly submitting to it once discovered.
Rating: Summary: Dave Hunt?, or "Why the Pope Won't Kill You." Review: Okay, I have had it with ignorance. Dave Hunt is the prime example. Today in Santa Monica I was perusing through the Christianity section looking for Resident Aliens by Stanley Hauerwas. During this frustrating venture I passed by Dave Hunt's book "The Woman Who Rides the Beast." "No wonder I can't find Hauerwas's book, I am in the fiction section," I thought to myself. Dave Hunt epitomizes everything that is wrong with crap fundamentalist theology. His last book, entitled "What Love is This," was a polemic attacking the tenants of Calvinism. This book was more of an attack on Calvin's personal character than on his views of God. After reading 500 pages of ad hominem, I was left frustrated because several people had given me the book to show me why Calvin was so wrong. I was frustrated because they actually thought that Mr. Hunt did a superb job at his task. However, he basically purported that Calvinism as an ideology could possess no love that could be called Christian simply because Calvin was a bad guy. To say the least this comes from a very ignorant position seeing as Calvin mostly restated Augustinian theology with a hint of stoicism.
Of course, this would only fuel the fire of one Dave Hunt, seeing as how his new book "reveals" the prophecy of revelation. The woman is obviously the Pope (even though they have all been men) and the beast is without doubt the Catholic church (despite any good it may do). How does he come to this conclusion? Easily, as the back cover discloses, tradition has affirmed this for centuries. I find this ironic since I estimate that he levels a lot of attacks against the Catholic tradition, probably arguing for scripture alone (which happens to be an ideology not found in scripture). Anyway, I would suggest to Mr. Hunt that he stop chasing rabbits (or whores riding beasts) and start doing something edifying. He is going to be hard pressed to find a Church anywhere that does not have sin in its history and he might want to stop blaming everyone else and examine his own life. If he shows himself to be more faithful than Mother Teresa, St. Francis, St. Vincent De Paul, Teresa of Avila (must I go on?) then he may have ground to point out all the faults of these great men and women in history (although part of what made them great is that they loved all and did not criticize people they disagreed with).
My only plea to you is to look past the anger out there and realize that there are faithful people who will be welcomed into God's presence as good and faithful servants whether Calvinist or Catholic.
Rating: Summary: Typical Hunt Review: I am a fundamentalist and do not care for many Catholic beliefs. But, that is no excuse for being dishonest and frankly Hunt is dishonest. I believe James White is much better on this subject matter. Hunt just makes protestants look like a bunch of rambling idiots.
I took the book back to library once he started with wild conspiracy theories on the Council of Niacea (the same way oneness pentecostals do) and then played games by transliterating Vicar backward from English to Latin to Greek to get Anti. Which mind you Hunt does not know Greek by his own admission. I came with giberish.
These books distract from more serious disagreements and issues between Catholics and Protestants.
Rating: Summary: Learn The Answers To Catholic Friends' Questions Review: As an evangelical living in a predominantly Roman Catholic city, I often talk to Catholic friends about the differences between their faith and mine. This book gave me all the information I need to show them the truth about God, the Bible, and Christianity. I went online and to bookstores to confirm what Dave Hunt says in his book because I was skeptical at first. Most Catholics probably have little concept of how much their religion differs from God's Word. If you care about where your Catholic friends and coworkers are going to spend eternity, read this book. If they don't hear the truth from you, they may continue to count on a purgatory that doesn't exist, on indulgences, and purchased salvation. Christianity is a life style of hope, not a religion of fear. If you're reading this, and you don't know for sure where you're going to spend eternity, read some of Dave Hunt's books before it's too late. The evangelicals of the past who gave up their lives rather than forsake Christ weren't afraid to speak out boldly so that we could be heirs to God's wonderful plan for salvation. Don't shun a book like this for fear of offending someone. Jesus died for you; surely you can speak out and speak the truth for Him.
Rating: Summary: Putting on My Cowboy Hat Review: I think a more appropriate title for the book would be, "Strap on your Cowboy Hat and Kick the Catholic Church with your Spurs". This book accurately makes up the lies of the Catholic Church. The AntiChrist a women? Only if Marylin Manson is actually a woman, but he is neither the AntiChrist or a women. What this book tells me is that the Catholic Church has a facist leader, that makes things up as he goes. Just like the pope, we can all make up our own theories. My theory is that the world should be run by Eugene McCarthy.
The author wrote this at about a third grade level, and it is slighlty inaccurate, but take it as the truth!
Rating: Summary: IF you wanna know the deal jus read it and research! Review: I will have to say after trying to be converted by my fiances family I have read a great deal of Catholic material, some anti-Lutheran material by Tan Publications, I have been to Catholic meetings, a number of things I have read all add up to something not so right.
Catholics seem to have this understanding of things, that the Church lies Supreme to God. Sola Scriptura is a novel idea. I do beleive the bible to be true. The Revelation is unfolding.
One stuanch fact about revelation is this:
THERE CANNOT BE ONE TRUE CHURCH, DO YOU KNOW WHY?
BECAUSE IN THE BEGININNING OF REVELATION HOW MANY CHURCHES DOES GOD SPEAK TO AND ASKS THEM TO REPENT?
MORE THAN ONE
I have also read Scott Hahn's book and I have spoken with one of his students from the college in stebenville
Revelation is about the end times, things that will come to pass
But Catholicism must carry on until the end, because it is written, so let it be done.
