Rating: Summary: A Book of Answers that raises more Questions. Review: The Archko Volume is written in a time when every thing has to be authenticated. The author and seeker of this information, Rev. W.D. Mahan, goes to great lengths to insure that the reader is aware of the origins of these documents being translated. He also leaves the belief or disbelief up to the reader. Drs. McIntosh and Twyman were real individuals who at the time these scrolls were translated, 1883 to 1887, had the knowledge and ability to translate these scrolls from the Roman Empire. This only enhances the credibility and authenticity of this book. If you truely wish to expand your knowledge base and desire to bring new questions to your Christian life. Then take time to read this little known book.
Rating: Summary: A Great Book For Research Review: The first time I read this book was in 1974. At that time my husband and I were entering in ministry and were seeking different resources for our teachings and studies. The Archko Volume was given to me by a friend, because she knew I had had extensive studies in Bible Theology for 4 years and was very interested in the secular happenings during the events told both in the Old Testement and the New Testement. Because I was raised reading the original King James Version, the language in which the book was written was not hard for me to understand. It was exilerating...it was like reading a newspaper account of something currently happening. The people and events took on reality and life as I read page after page. For any serious student of scripture and theological doctrine, this book should be a staple in your bookcase.
Rating: Summary: Archko Volume is Unfortunately a Hoax Review: The supposed discoverer of these "ancient writings" was German scholar H.C. Whydaman. Rev. William D. Mahan, who paid to have them retreived (after which they were translated and published in 1886) by curator Father Freelinhusen of the Vatican Library, admitted them to be fake prior to his death. Near unanimous criticism by New Testament scholars that the work is an obvious fake has not deterred many believers. Please see Gordon Stein's book, Encyclopedia of Hoaxes.
Rating: Summary: A mind-expanding book, sure to have an impact. Review: This book fits well on my eclectic shelf of theologically important works, chief of which is the Bible, itself. This book contains the report of Pontius Pilate to the Roman government, concerning his role in the events surrounding Jesus of Nazareth. Knowing this alone will draw the interest of most people, however, there is more. Depending on his or her intensity the reader will, at times, be transported and travel with the author through his search for historic records and, ultimately, in the very times and places reported. A slightly different, but altogether fitting and understandable version of the person and deity of Jesus of Nazareth emerges. There are several surprises as reports of Jesus and his doctrine roll out. Encouragement, disappointment and something approaching pure joy are elicited at certain points as the Roman and Jewish officials' reports open up. A pristine quality is added to familiar concepts, not opposing essential Jewish and Christian principles. I see the world differently, which means I am changed. I offer the highest recommendation possible for this book, to augment your view.
Rating: Summary: GREAT INSIGHT INTO THE LIFE OF CHRIST Review: This book gives great insight into the life of Christ and the events happening around him and behind the scenes. I couldn't find any discrepancies between this book and the Holy Bible. The story of Caiphas is worth the price of the book alone. This is great reading and is great faith builder.

Rating: Summary: Historic, intelligent and inspiring! Review: This book was given to me years ago. I have bought several since, to give to my Christian friends that seek to know more about the Biblical customs and times that Jesus lived. It should not replace scripture for the Christian, but should simply help one to understand what influenced decisions and actions of people in the time of Christ. You can enjoy this book immensely, as long as you realize it is not the Bible, but simply a book on history. Don't let the "1-star" reviews put you off. People are, and will always be threatened by information that threatens their religion, or lack of religion. Even some of my friends would tell me they don't believe what it said. I would ask why...they could not really answer, but just found it too "true" picture of a person, and they like to picture Jesus as some "glow in the dark" phenom, or something. I think we have seen too many paintings...or maybe you SHOULD look up the 1-star's encyclopedic opinion on this book...so you can really see that it is just an opinion...completely unfounded, while the Archko Volume is completely accredited. So, something this controversial...this old, this amazing...must be read to be appreciated. Do it for yourself, in spite of the 1-star scaredy cats! Have fun!
