Summary: Gladiators, Lions and a Fair Lady, Fascinating!
Review: What happened in Century 1? How did folks survive with an undying faith in Jesus, the Christ? A riveting tale of people with problems similar to our own in 20th Century America proposes some answers in an engrossing novel. You won't want to wait long to get to Book 2! Read this when you have time set aside for a "reading orgy."

Summary: A Benjamite woman is sold into slavery
Review: I have never ventured to read Christian fiction. This experience with Voice in the Wind is one of the best. Hadassah, a Benjamite girl, lives through her cities destruction, starvation, and still holds her faith close to her heart. Never wavering, she brings peace to the Roman household she was sold too. At the risk of being exposed as a Benjamite, she shares her faith with a few people. Hadassah finds strength in knowing that she is not alone in her faith. The ending of the book surprised me and I admit to shedding some tears. Francine Rivers knows how to weave a beautiful and warm tale. Ms. Rivers puts her faith into every paragraph and sentence. After Voice in the Wind, there are two more books. I have had the pleasure of reading BOTH books and find them equally as good! The outcomes of all the books are surprising and most welcome. I recommend all three of these books to any person of any faith. They are on my top ten list of best read books!

Summary: sensual and moving spiritual tale
Review: Francine Rivers is one of the best authors of Christian fiction, and this tale of romantic love and spiritual struggle in the face of deadly adversity is a real treat to read. This is the story of a believer named Hadassah in the violent, decadent ancient Rome of the first Christians, and her triumph over fear of persecution as she has the courage to stay faithful to God. Good love story here too. Moving scenes. Read it and pass it on.

Summary: AMAZING!
Review: AMAZING,AMAZING,AMAZING!!! Francine Rivers is definately at the top of christian fiction! If you haven't read this book, I HIGHLY recomend it!
No matter what you're looking for in a book, you'll get something out of this. If you're into romance or are simply looking for a good read, you'll enjoy it!
For me personally, this book challenged me as a person. Francine Rivers writes with such an honesty, I can't really describe it, but she captures the essense of man and his need for a higher purpose and really the heart of the Christian faith as well.
Hadassah, while quiet and dealing with her fears throughout the book, is really the strongest character of the story. Her unwavering faith is really the centerpiece of this story, and her beautiful humility seems to outshine everything else.
A few of the other more "flawed" characters really served to point out how I am so much more like them then Hadassah and really got me thinking.
This is a very touching, fascinating, inspirational book, and I don't know how someone could read this and not sense a need in their life to change, to be a better person, to be more like Hadassah.
For whatever reason you feel like reading this, you DEFINATELY should. I HIGHLY recomend this book!!!

Summary: WOW, WOW, WOW
Review: This book series was recommended by a friend of mine. She said that I would enjoy this book. BOY was she wrong...I didn't just enjoy it, I drank it in. I felt compassion, tears, joy and sorrow throughout the book. It all fit so nicely together that it kinda makes you wonder who actually wrote the book. Was it really Francine Rivers thoughts coming out on those pages or was God helping her type out each wonderful word. She helped my faith tremendously, and I will always be grateful for the things she has given to the world. Thank you Francine Rivers from the bottom of my heart!

Summary: BIblical, Historical, Romantic- very good!
Review: When i first started to read this book i just couldn't get into it, but i kept on reading and it started to pick up. It is a very good story that has a lot of different "colorful" characters. The ending is unexpected and leaves you hanging so i suggest having the next book, "An Echo in the Darkness" nearby and ready to read.

Summary: Great!!
Review: A Voice in the Wind completely captivated me. Just like everyone else has said, I was emersed in the geography, characters, plot, and influence of God. I usually do not like historical novels because I often get bored with everything, but I was never bored with this book. It follows a wealthy family in Rome with a slave who they found out to be a Christian. In a surprising turn of events, Hadassah, the slave, falls in love with the son in the family,Marcus, who is often arrogant and cruel. The love story captivated me more than anything else. I wish I could be as strong of a person and Christian as Hadassah and admire everything about her. It took me a few days to finish and the last day I read for at least three or four hours! I was totally caught up in this book and really cannot wait until I can read An Echo in the Darkness.

Summary: Warning...
Review: Warning! Do not buy A Voice in the Wind unless you are prepared to sit and do nothing but read for the next few days. Trust me -- you'll only need a few days to read this 400+ page book. Once you start, you won't be able to stop. It consumes you totally. When you're not reading it (you do need to eat and sleep) you're thinking about it. Your eyes will hurt from reading so long, but you won't care -- you have to keep reading. This book contains a tender love story for the girls and it's action packed with gladiators and man-eating lions for the guys. Not only are you getting an awesome story, but a history lesson as well. A win-win situation! A Voice in the Wind takes you back to ancient Roman times where you'll follow a Christian slave girl and the family she serves. She turns their world upside down with her unselfishness, loving heart and kind ways -- not slave-like at all. She not only challenges her master's stony idols and wicked ways, she will challenge your faith and make you want to live your life for the glory of God. And don't forget, this is only one book in The Mark of the Lion series. You'll have to read all three! Recommended reading for a mature 18 year old and up.

Summary: Rome, 1st Century
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this historical novel set in the first century AD. The story follows a Jewish girl (Hadassah) who is taken captive by the Romans when they sacked Jerusalem and a German tribal warrior (Atretes) captured in the forests. Hadassah, a Christian, is sold as a slave to a wealthy family in Rome. Atretes, a very large and attractive blond German, is sold to a Roman who supplies gladiators for the arena.

Although Roman is tolerant of many forms of religion, Christianity is illegal. Hadassah struggles to serve her mistress while obeying her own conscious. Hadassah's mistress is an insufferable hedonist who is a poor judge of character. Following her life has the makings of a Roman soap opera, amusing, sad and at times, annoying.

Atretes trains for the arena. He is strong-bodied and strong-willed. His exploits provide a sense of the minimum value Romans of that era placed on human life. The trappings and activities of the arena are described with sufficient detail to be rated PG-13 or even a light R.

At least one reviewer faults Hadassah's character as being too morally correct and unromantic. I disagree. I found Hadassah's character simple like her unencumbered and un-institutionalized Christian beliefs - simply refreshing.

This is a very entertaining historical novel written from the perspective of a Christian author.

A solid four stars.

Summary: Have the second book on hand when you finish this book....
Review: As soon as I finished reading this book, I was up until 2:00 a.m. reading the second book in the series. I'm hooked! I found that while reading the first half of the book, I was entertained, but could easily put the book down. However, the tension builds and by the middle of the book, I found it difficult to tear myself away from reading it. I'm well into the second book (_An Echo in the Darkness_), and find it just as riveting as _A Voice in the Wind_.

Rivers tells a compelling story. I highly recommend this book.
