Rating: Summary: The greatest novel I've ever read Review: I always say that about the book I am reading at the time, but this book is incredible. The writing style is excellent, everything flows, nothing is rushed, the story line is amazing. I love the characters and I love the message it sends to us all. I couldn't stop turning the pages and I feel like I know the characters. When the end came I was so upset!! I got went to all the bookstores and couldn't find the next one so I got online and ordered. I am impatiently waiting... I can't wait to find out what happens next!
Rating: Summary: Francine Rivers-TRULY INSPIRING Review: This book, without a doubt, is the most inspiring book I've read. I read it back in its early days and at that time, I really needed to see where I, as a christian, needed to fit into my world. I cannot tell you what this book meant to me. I wrote to Francine at that time because I felt she had to have been truly led by the Spirit to write the book. I have heard that I was quoted on the blurb of a subsequent issue. I still have those same feelings about it today as I think about what it meant to me. Have never waited for a sequel with such anticipation. Francine is the christian writer for today! Don't miss her books!
Rating: Summary: Life changing Review: The story of Hadassah and her faithful walk with Christ is so inspiring and encouraging. Through all her trials and battles she stayed true to her God and I personally found that really challenging in my own christian life. This book and the other two in the triology are absolutely awesome and I'm so glad someone introduced me to Francine Rivers books so I could read them. I can't wait to read more of her books!
Rating: Summary: A Voice In The Wind Review: The Mark of The Lion series by Francine Rivers are the best books I've read!! I can't imagine how anyone could read this series and not be moved! I only wish that Francine Rivers would write a fourth book for the series!
Rating: Summary: THE BEST HISTORY LESSON I HAVE EVER HAD! Review: An excellent story set in the first century A.D. The first in a trilogy spanning the Roman Empire. It follows the story of a young jewish girl, left alone and taken into slavery after Jerusalem is left devastated by the Roman army. Several threads are running throughout the story and the characters are interwined as certain events take place. The author's research is superb and the historical facts throughout the story are very interesting. Certainly the best history lesson I have ever had. This is an excellent book. My first by Francine Rivers and one I would definitely recommend
Rating: Summary: Let me explain.... Review: THIS IS THE BEST SERIES... I BORROWED THIS SERIES FROM MY CHURCH LIBRARY AND CAN'T PUT THEM DOWN. I WANT YOU TO READ THEM IF YOU ARE A CHRISTIAN OR NOT!! A PERFECTLY WRITTEN BOOK THAT WILL KEEP YOU ON THE END OF YOUR SEAT...OR BED.
Rating: Summary: You'll recognize the characters in your own life. Review: It's been two years since I first read this novel and I have reread it about 6 times...always till about 2 A.M. because I cannot put it down. The characters in Francine River's novels are so real; many times I recognize people in my life in her books and understand them with greater compassion because of Ms. River's insights into their motivations. The love story is always as compelling as the first time I read it. Francine Rivers was a guest at a large luncheon our church book club held. She was wonderful...alive, deep, humorous, real...just like her characters. A peerless author.
Rating: Summary: A book of Triumph Review: Wonderful read, can't wait to read the next book. It showed me how we must all have faith.
Rating: Summary: An Instant Classic Review: In a short time Francine Rivers has become one of our finest Christian authors, and THE MARK OF THE LION trilogy is her crown jewel. Quite simply, these are my favorite works of fiction - ever. While other authors may sell more books at times, none can WRITE like Rivers. The trilogy is set in the Roman Empire, shortly after the fall of Jerusalem. Using a Hebrew slave girl (Hadassah) and a German gladiator (Atretes; think the movie Gladiator) as the main characters, three books are crafted around themes of faith, redemption and sacrifice. Rivers is one of the best at writing characters and the ones she creates here are absolutely convincing -- flawed and heroic on multiple layers, with developmental conflicts that relate to and parallel modern times almost seemlessly. A VOICE IN THE WIND, the first and best of the series, lays the groundwork for the trilogy but stands tall on its own merits as well. The character of Hadassah, in particular, shines most bright in this part of the trilogy. You can read it on its own, but I guarantee that you will have to order the rest of the series when you're through. These books will not only grab hold of you and demand to be finished but they will challenge you to take your walk with God to a much deeper level. Do not read this series unless you want to be changed. No other stories have every affected me in such a deep way. Forget the LEFT BEHIND series and invest in a true Christian classic. Five Stars.
Rating: Summary: Excellent - You'll read it over and over! Review: This is such a wonderful book I have already recommended it to several people. I think the author does an awesome job portraying ancient Rome and her Hadassah is a great example of a christian trying to live in those times. Other reviewers have noted that it is too much like America today but I think that's the author's whole point. Our nation tolerates all the things Rome tolerated (drugs, abortion, violence - as in the Gladiator "games", and so much more!) Well Rome fell... what will happen to the United States? Aren't we headed in the same direction?
