Summary: The bible opened up for me!
Review: I love Dakes Annotated Reference Bible, once you learn the basics on how to navigate through the scripture with Dakes notes, understanding and revelation explode of the pages. Questions I had were answered and explained. There is a complete set of notes after each book of the bible - the insight into the Word of God is amazing. I have read a lot of commentaries of the Bible and this one is the tops. I do not recommend this bible as a first bible for a new christian - the text is KJV - King James Version and may be hard to understand -(I suggest The Open Bible - New Living Traslation for a first bible) Anyway, as I always read reviews for products I want to buy when on Amazon - I thought I would leave one. Have a BLESSED day!

Summary: A Revised Opinion of this work- Caveat Emptor!
Review: I must apologize for leading astray. In a previous review of this work (A Reader from Everett, WA, I Highly Recommended this work.Unfortunately, I had not fully understood Dake's teachings on vital subjects such as the Trinity and Deity of Christ and other Theological important topics. I have also learned that these are the bible notes that are the FOUNDATION of bleeding edge Pentecostalism: Benny Hinn, Hagin, Copeland, Toronto Vineyard.Heretical teachings abound within!

I must therefore publicly retract my previous recommendation, and confess my ignorance.

If you are interested in the problems of this work, try an internet search engine with the words Dake AND heresy.

Summary: The Best Study Bible Ever
Review: I own several study bibles, yet I still find myself using the Dakes most often. Its completeness and thouroughness is still unmatched up to now. The concordance is so complete you would not need a separate one. Plus the fact that it is written in the Authorized Version makes it even more beautiful. This is truly a work of someone guided by the Holy Spirit. A real necessity for those who take thier Bible study seriously.

Summary: Previous review was made in error
Review: I posted a review on May 12, 2000 under the name of Velvet. At that time I received the large-note edition and not the large-print edition. I want to inform everyone that my comments were concerning the large-note edition. I was not aware of the difference between the two and since then I have purchased and received the large-print edition. The print quality is excellent...all of the complaints that were made in my previous post were resolved. The layout and design of the large-print edition is exceptional...very easy to read in comparison to previous editions. There is a wealth of information in the book, yet it is structured very well. The concordance is very thorough also. It's quite a find and worth the Amazon.com price (Genuine leather, large-print edition).

Summary: Poor Quality
Review: I received the large print-leather edition yesterday and returned it immediately. The large print wasn't large at all because the pages are too crowded (4 columns), even though the book is 8.5 x 11. As I flipped through the pages the letters were already fading and the printing (title, etc) on the spine of the book was fading as well. For the price that is being charged I expected excellent typesetting and time withstanding pages and cover. The print doesn't appear to be computer generated. Maybe I am being too harsh, perhaps the publishers intended to preserve a manuscript appearance. It was a turn off for me. However, the information contained therein was substantial and impressive, I just wish they would significantly improve the appearance (including type size and spacing) and the overall quality of the book. If this is done, I would certainly purchase another one.

Summary: A highly influential source of heterodoxy
Review: I spent years as a Pentecostal and Dake's work was a major source of doctrine for me. I had to eventually come to reject it due to its historical errors (e.g. misquoting early Church fathers), and heretical views on important things such as the nature of the Holy Trinity. He teaches that the three persons of the Trinty each have a body, soul, and spirit like men. This is tri-theism and not traditional Trinitarian theology believed by the faithful for two-thousand years. It is interesting that Dake was a major influence on charlatans such as Jimmy Swaggart, Benny Hinn, and Roberts Liardon.

Summary: Excellent for the serious Bible Scholar
Review: I've owned this Bible for several years and have found a wealth of information. I caution anyone, though, it is one man's opinion after years, and years of study. It isn't God's commentary. There are many helps to work from and, again, like any other commentary, they are all a human's opinion. No one, I repeat, no one has all the answers but Finis Dake was one well read scholar. Read the word and form your own opinions but study, study, study, to show yourself approved - rightly dividing the truth! Thank you!

Summary: excellent
Review: I've studied from other Bibles, but I always end up coming back to Dake's Annonated Reference Bible when I want the "real deal" 99% of the time when I am looking for a Scripture but don't know exactly where it is, with Dake If I know just one word it will be MORE than ENOUGH!!!

Summary: Absolutely the BEST study Bible I have ever used!!!!!!
Review: If your desire is to better understand the Word of the Lord, then this Bible is for you. It has so many notes,cross-references,headings,misc.lists,etc. When you first sit down with your new Dake Bible the amount of information is actually overwhelming. You can sit down to study one verse and before you know it an hour has gone buy. I am very satisfied with it and would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone looking for a study/reference Bible that you will not out grow.

Summary: Forget it
Review: It isn't easy for this Christian to pan a Bible, but I honestly can't recommend this at all. The scriptural deviations mentioned by other reviewers start pretty much at the first page and should be matters of grave concern. Add to this the fact that there is so much information here that I found this Bible extremely difficult to use. Notes often run from column to column or page to page and are sometimes impossible to follow or even find. Many pages in Dake have more notes on them than Scripture. Buy just about any other study Bible. Leave this one on the rack.
