Summary: A book well-worth reading!
Review: This was one of those books that found its way into my closet through a random (but somewhat informed) buy, and then maneuvered its way into my hands about 6 months later. Few, if any, books have had the impact on my life that The Green Letters has had and still has. In a day where most books on growth/freedom teaching are (to be quite honest) very poorly written and rarely worth a second read-through, this book is a gem.

My story is the usual one: "I once was alive... when the commandment came, sin became alive and I died..." Stanford was the first person to bring cohesion and understanding to my experience. He gave me permission to take Romans 6 literally -- I really have died WITH CHRIST! And this statement, "with Christ" is the summation and essence of The Green Letters. "With Christ" we have died, "with Him" we are risen, ascended, and seated. As the apostle Paul said and as Stanford frequently echoes, "Not I, but Christ!" This is the key to victory in our lives, as set forth so well in this volume.

This book is excellently done -- well written, well researched, well thought-out, and even concise! But the truth that is set forth here is what really matters. The Christian life was not meant to be lived through our self-effort, through our own passions (however sincere!) and abilities (natural or spiritual!), but through faith alone in our inseperable union with Christ. If we are in Him, He is in us, and He will do all. I recommend this book to anyone who yearns to bear fruit for God, and especially those nearing the end of their own spirituality and hungering for a power they do not see in their Christian lives. To these, The Green Letters will be a welcome and potentially powerful read. God alone keep you as you grow in His grace. Col 2:9-10
