Summary: Personal Experience Rules
Review: I gave this book a rating of "1" only because it was written in English.

This book is short on Scripture and long on personal experiences and opinions sometimes referencing Scripture. It is another "How to become holier than your neighbor" books, which fosters spiritual pride more than a closer relationship with the Lord.

There is a great book written on getting closer to God.

Summary: I didn't like this book
Review: Tenney has some interesting things to say, but unfortunately he says them in the first chapter and on the back cover. After that, he just repeated himself. Also, I felt uncomfortable with his description of the church revival service that he attended. I believe that God does great things, but the author seemed to be bragging somehow. If you want to read this book, stand in the book store and read the back cover - that's all the author had to say.

Summary: This book will hook you and reel you in
Review: Tommy Tenney bears his heart showing his intense hunger for God. The book of Psalms refrains, "As the dear pants for the water, so my soul longeth after Thee" (Psalm 42:1) By and large, the Church has lost most of her hunger for God. She sits in her pews with a glassy-eyed malaise.

Many seem to be mistaking Scripture regarding the security of our salvation with the passion for our Savior. The book of Song of Solomon reflects the passion. "Where is my beloved" said as she franticly searches for Him. Again the passion of Peter, "Where shall we go for you have the words of eternal life" (John 6:68). Again the Psalms, "My voice You shall hear in the morning, O Lord; In the morning I will direct it to You, and I will look up" (Psalm 5:3).

We, the Church, have been missing the mark in impacting our culture. Can they say of us as they did in Acts, "Those who have turned the world upside down have come here too" (Acts 17:6)? Tenney was correct. We will never have enough impact in our churches until there is the bread of God's presence in the house.

This was a much needed, timely message. Let him who has an ear to hear, hear this. Yes, beware of this message, because like any timely word, it can shake up your theology. And given the Pharisee's response to the Word of God, Jesus, based on their stodgy theology, I welcome God stirring mine up. In fact I need it!

Summary: Have You Looked Back At Tommy Tenney's "Trail" Lately?
Review: Many of you are apprently unaware that Tommy Tenney was a UPC pastor and has been a part of the Brownsville/Toronto Blessing scene for a long time. He left the UPC over the issue of legalism but has never denounced their other heresies such as their anti-Trinitarianism and baptismal regeneration. Tenney is clearly adding works to salvation in God Chasers, as he has done all along with other UPC doctrines. Do true believers really want to buy this book and follow Tenney's recomendations? I would like to pose a number of questions. You only need to read the title of this book to see that this is an unbibilical book. Here are 10 things to think about:

(1) Whatever happened to following Christ? (1 Pet. 2:21) (2) Is God going so fast that we have to run to keep up? (2 Pet. 3:9) (3) Do we really chase God or does He chase us? (John 16:8) (4) Isn't this book just an advertisement to try to get true believers to submit to the false anointing from the hands of the falsely anointed? (1 Jn. 2:20) (5) If Christians are chasing God but running away from His Word (trail) what is the profit? (Ps. 119:105) (6) If we are running in God's "tracks" shouldn't we look at the trail once in awhile to see where He wants us to go? (2 Tim. 3:15) (7) What is the major doctrinal reason Tenney wrote this book? Answer: Pelegianism (8) Isn't chasing God adding works to grace? (Eph. 2:8-9)

and the big one ...

(9) Why chase God when true believers already have the Holy Spirit within them? (Eph. 1:13) Wouldn't it be better to obey God and preach the gospel of salvation rather than the gospel of signs and wonders? (10) What exactly is Tommy Tenney chasing? Answer: A name for himself and money.

Summary: Crosscheck with what GOD does say in the Bible
Review: No matter how encouraging and inspiring ¡§the God Chasers¡¨ seems to you, there are some things that we really have to be careful in this book. The most serious problem is that Mr. Tenney uses Scriptures out of context again and again. For example, he said ¡§ When you're a singer and you're anointed, you sing better. But when the glory falls, you can barely sing. Why? Because God declared that no flesh is going to glory in His presence (See 1Cor. 1:29: ¡§so that no one may boast before Him¡¨(NIV))¡¨(p.47). But the whole paragraph starts from 1Cor.1:28 ¡¨He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things¡Xand the things that are not¡Xto nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before Him.¡¨ I don't understand how Mr. Tenney got that idea out of this paragraph. Another example, he quotes Exodus 20:18-21 to make a conclusion that the Israelites, the chosen people brought out from Egypt by God, ¡§preferred distant respect over intimate relationship¡¨, ¡§so the end result of their flight from holy intimacy the day was that they died before they or their children ever entered the promised land."¡¨(p.71) Let's take a look at the background of this situation here. That was the time when God gave Moses the Ten Commandments, and God said to Moses on the mountain "Go back down and warn the people not to cross the boundaries. They must not come up here to see the Lord, for those who do will die¡¨(Exodus 19:21, NLT), despite of Moses¡¦protest, God made it very clear again in 19:24 that the people were not allowed to come near the mountain where God was going to show His glory! And the very reason that cost Moses and that generation of Israelites the privilege of entering the promise land was the rebellion of the people and the failure of Moses and Aaron to demonstrate God¡¦s holiness to the people at the waters (Numbers 20:9-13), not "the fear of God's presence" as Tenney addressed. I am not accusing of Mr. Tenney's motivation of quoting Scriptures out of context, but we have to be very careful in this issue. I believe true ¡§God chasers¡¨ are those who put trust and passion in our Lord and His Word alone, the miraculous signs and wonders are cool, but even Jesus didn't try to win people with those means, why should we today? There are some good points in the book, but we really have to go back to the bottom line: what does Bible teach about this. We don't want to take man's opinions carelessly without crosschecking with what God says in the Bible.

Summary: Chase after God with all that you've got
Review: Tommy Tenney encourages us to seek a closer relationship with God. He identifies that many of us seek the hands of God (blessings, gifts, etc.) but not the face of God (a relationship with Him). This book is a *MUST READ* for any Christian trying to get closer to our Creator.

Summary: I want to be a God Chaser
Review: I knew that I was missing something in my life but what could it be? I have a relatively good life. I love the Lord and I try to do right by Him, but what was I missing? For the longest time I could not figure out what it was that I needed in my life.... so I went searching only to find trouble. See, I needed to "DO" something. You know what I mean. It's hard to "DO NOTHING". I wanted to have a closer relationship with God but I felt at a loss when going to church and praying. Everything seemed fake, a put on.... a social event. I wondered, "WHERE IS GOD IN ALL OF THIS??????" I was hungry for God in my life and everywhere that I went to be fed, had empty shelves (tho- they claimed to have it all). What a disappointment. Then I began to withdraw from the church scene all together. I felt like I was the only one who felt this way and that no one would ever understand. I was wrong! Tommy Tenney describes this in his book and tells you where to go from here. Are you hungry for God in your life? You are not alone. There are answers and "The Heart Of A God Chaser" will help show you the way. There is no need to withdraw into the depths of loneliness because of your hunger for the Lord, instead go searching for the "Bread of Life" that will fill you with everlasting life and the fulfillment you have been looking for.

Summary: Grab the torch and run. Don't stop for anything
Review: This book has really helped me in growing in the word. It explains in great detail how to catch God. We dream, we crave, we hunger, we don't apologize, we run, relentlessly. This book will help you in doing that.

Summary: Wonderful!
Review: I really enjoyed this book. It was a fast read. There were subjects in the book that helped me to relate in my own life. I suggest every christian should read this.

Summary: Chasing God won't be easy, but worthwhile in the end !
Review: Tommy Tenney inspired me with this book to go into a deeper level of intimacy with God. Trying to find God is one thing, but chasing Him with everything that's in you until He sees that you are committed to Him is totally another. Tommy's book is a must for all who is serious with God, and for those who need refreshment in their spiritual lives.

May God find you as you chase Him...
