Summary: A must have for any Christian
Review: As of right now most Christians are using the 4th edition of the King James Bible. The Companion bible has notes from the Sept., Vulgate and Syrian. These are the books the King James bible was taken out of. The origional notes will help any student of Gods word understand what the Lord is saying to us today. If you still think there was a Snake in the garden of eden you need this book.

Summary: Perhaps the best resource available for the Bible student.
Review: Invaluable for those looking for a comprehensive, and nearly exhaustive, resource for Bible study. Some views are (possibly) controversial, and perhaps incorrect, but they are few, and the author's views are fully documented and explained in every case. Also of importance are the word studies in the Hebrew and the Greek, tremendous for comparison purposes. Finally, there are almost 200 deeply analytical appendixes on a great variety of difficult Bible studies from Genesis to Revelation. Some topics covered are areas that are too difficult for most students, and the author makes the subjects very accessible to most. I believe this book to be one of the MOST valuable resources available today, and it represents one of the most monumental efforts ever produced by one man. And, although it's almost 100 years old, it reads as if it was as modern a study as you'll find anywhere. God bless!

Summary: Companion Bible-The VERY BEST STUDY BIBLE in print.
Review: There is no doubt in my mind that The Companion Bible is the best Study Bible available to date. No other Bible has the kind of exhaustive information found in this Bible. EVERY (absolutely EVERY) single page of verse has study notes. Many pages have more than half their space filled with study notes, both technical notes for hardcore readers, and helpful clarifications for the layman. And then there are the dates in the margin, the extensive structure outlines, and 198 comprehensive appendices in the back about everything from the Greek classification of figures of speech as used in the Bible, to weights and measures, to the day of Jesus' burial. I am appalled that this Bible is priced the same as other study Bibles, considering that its value far surpasses that of every other study Bible I have ever seen. Unfortunately, very few people know about The Companion Bible, or about E.W. Bullinger himself, who was truly a genius of his time. I have reviewed many Bibles, probaly 20 to 30 of the most popular on the market over the years, but I would recommend no other Bible before the Companion Bible. If you are serious about making the Word of God a part of your life, you have no excuse for not obtaining this Bible; The Companion Bible is a work of art and a definite must-have!

Summary: The ONLY Bible you should be reading from
Review: The Companion Bible by E.W.Bullinger is very helpful in giving you helpful historical information, and by letting you know what many of mis-translated words really said in the original Hebrew or Greek. With the 190+ appendixes giving you explanations on the day to day lives of the people, figures of speech, and many timetables. They are all helpful in helping you grow as a Christian today.

Summary: Reader beware............
Review: of reviewers like Jason Schaitel below. I am a somewhat elderly son of a very elderly Baptist minister. For a great many years I have met "Christians" like him. These are those that are looking for the "only true religion/gospel", which the rest of the world knows doesn't exist. His fault finding with just about everyone he has come in contact with should be enough to warn anyone.
The Jason Schaitels of this world spend enormous amounts of time "studying" the Bible and finding fault with everyone who doesn't interpret it their way.
There is nothing wrong with this Bible. I have a vast library of Bibles, and scriptures of other kinds, from a wide variety of religions; religions that Jason would call "cults". I guess he doesn't know that most religions were once called cults, including my father's Baptist religion. The words "Cult" and "sect" are interchangeable. That's were we get the terms "sectarian" and "non-sectarian", words that Protestants use daily, but don't understand the meaning of. The scriptures I have are no different than the Bible reviewed here. They contain the author's results of their exercise in hermeneutics and exegesis. In other words, they have read the Bible, done their homework, and written their interpretations, which if you study various commentaries you will find very similar no matter what the Christian sect or "cult" is.
The idea in studying religion is to study with an open heart, and a brain--something that is remiss with many religious critics.
Pay no attention to those who decry another's religion. Read, study and understand for yourself.

Summary: Stick to the topic...
Review: It is unfortunate that many reviewers of the Companion Bible talk more of one man's ministry than of this most excellent bible. This bible is used by many ministries and the discussion of their merits and mistakes do not belong here. Let's stick to the subject matter, shall we?

This bible is a King James Version and as such should be familiar to anyone. Each page is split in two, one side containing the KJV text and the other side containing E.W. Bullinger's notes. There is also an impressive set of appendices that cover almost any topic you could ask about.

As you read the KJV text, there are notations that tell you when Bullinger has something to say about the verse or word noted. These comments are in the side bar next to the KJV text. Here's a warning: to save space, Bullinger sometimes will reference a previous verse where he has already explained the word in question. Backtracking these quickly becomes a chore, so I use a Strong's Concordance to find the word faster. These 'notes' also help you to break the bible down into an organized outline, often revealing a deeper meaning in the texts.

The appendices included are small essays and charts explaining everything from Greek grammar, to Hebrew customs and figures of speech . You simply cannot understand any bible unless you fully read and understand Bullinger's appendices. Be warned that some appendices contain information that is controversial. Rest assured, however, that Bullinger offers biblical and historical proof for each of his statements. Judge for yourself if these have any merit.

E.W. Bullinger never really wanted his name associated with this bible so as to let his work, not his name, speak for itself. His comments in the Companion Bible reflect the time period in which he lived (late 1800's) and offer insight into many Christian theories that were new in his time, but to us now seem old. The rapture theory and the gap theory being two of these.

Buy this bible. Read this bible. Though you may disagree with some of Bullinger's comments, you will never regret your purchase.

Summary: Arnold Murray
Review: Hi,

If you are thinking of purchasing this item purely because of the fact it bakcs ou Arnold Murrays studies, do not.

I was once studying with Arnold Murrays studies from Shepards Chapel. One thing that i feel most people get the "thirst" for the studies is due to the fact his studies are described verse by verse, chapter by chapter. Which is a main point to Murrays's success. Most bible studiers can explain the bible step by step, its just murrays is a well known for it. It also may not be healthy for new christians to go straight into that amount of depth staright away. One thing i found disturbing whilst studying with Murray, is the fact whenever i did not understand something, i would go to HIS teachings, rather than to prayer or find out for myself.
He constantly goes on about not listening to man, which is exactly what the studiers are doing, whetehr they like to admit it or not, as Arnold Murray beleive it or not is a man. I agree that MANY of the websites against his teachings are wrong, as the things they accuse him of teaching e.g. racism is not true in the slightest. Even if this man does hold the understanding to the truth, it is not healthy to listen to one man constantly, whether thats from him directly or from teachers that have been taught by him, as truth is found through God, even though many Murray studiers beleive God brought them to Murray, they must also take into account that satan also brings men to his teachers too, which is a thing that will happen alot these days.
This world is too risky to listen to one or two men only, the truth is found within God, which no "christian" should deny. Whether Murray knows the truth or not, the truth is something for you to explore and discover for yourself, if u have trust in God to guide you that is you should have no problem about it.
Christianity is also about setting an example for non-christians...that many christians forget. Also Murrays teaching srae awuick answer, i dont feelt hats what the bible is all about, as its a book to last us a lifetime, not that we shouldnt make the effort to study. I noticed with Murrays teachings, i constantly was reminded i cannot trust any man, once again putting aside he is alkso a man who claims to knwo the truth. Christians must be reminded at the end of the day its about your relationship with God, knowing your Father...

Hope this helped...

Tom
